Those are the most insane prices I have seen for a camp of any sort yet. I was about to recommend it to some of the Juniors around here, but I know their families couldn't hope to afford to send them.

I was also shocked at the typical camp prices not having any kids myself. But, if you check around, these prices are at the low end for residential camps where you stay overnight, but these are air conditioned dorm rooms. Camp Eagle Ridge nearby fills every year. They were half filled at Christmas already with lots of kids even staying for 6 and 7 weeks. They don't have anywhere near the facilities and will be bringing their kids for disc golf and Camp Discover U kids will go there for swimming.

Wow, thats amazing. Well, summer camp is officially something I will not be sending my kids to... if I ever have any. Haha... I suppose I can at least understand the price-point now that I've seen something to compare it to... but it is a shame that I highly doubt any of the local juniors will get to experience Highbridge via a camp like that, they'd absolutely love it.
But it does give me a great idea for this summer here locally... *rusty gears slowly grind, manipulating mind...*

The prices are reasonable for a residential camp - in fact, they are kind of on the low side.
And if you think a week of camp is expensive, just think what it costs for disc golf for a family that hits a lot of tournaments - 4 entries, food, hotel, etc., plus what it takes to keep a family of 4 in discs ... There's a few other disc golf families out there who can attest to this - just keeping the teenagers in socks, shoes, and Power Bars is a chore!
But it's our family hobby and a great way to spend time with the kids ... these are great years and we know that we'll be very happy to have the memories too.

Tell the kids to move up to Open and start helping with the expenses. I now have to pay my entries, food, split gas, hotel, etc. :D

Cool & thanks for the info! My 8-year-old son will go nuts when he hears about this! $600 is a great deal - cheaper than the Ramada!
Chuck, would it be possible for an experienced player to volunteer as a counselor when his kid goes to camp?

Putt from markers repeatedly.
That'll be $600. :)

This is a new project so John is open to a variety of creative ways to do this with expert help. Contact John at: campdiscoveru@centurytel.net The job application form is downloadable from the upper left of the Registration page on the Camp DISCover U website: www.campdiscoveru.com (http://www.campdiscoveru.com)
For example, I can see parents playing the Mid-Nationals in July and their kids being there during that time and/or possibly the week before or after.

I know how to putt TONY!! I just have no real form off the box , I just throw !! I think I sometimes use an x-step!! My biggest problem is my footing and i have a tendency to pause at the end of my run up, which equates to throwing arm only drives!! I can not seem to break these habits hence lack of distance!!

it is amazing how much parent will pay to have time off from their kids.
Consider this: the four of us (2 parents/2 kids) spent $250 in one day at Six Flags last year!
Life is short.
I'd rather spend the time WITH my kids learning things in a positive environment. DISCover U sounds very well-rounded.

Honestly these camp prices are really about average or even a little lower.
I attended sport camps for a couple years in middle school/ high school and most for 1 week cost around 700-1000 dollars for a week. This of course included many amenities such as air conditioned cabins, food etc
Maybe I will fill out an application, sounds like a good idea.

After speaking with John I am incredibly excited about this entire camp, it looks phenomenal and he has some absolutely amazing ideas concerning the future of the program, the disc golf complex, and the entire sport as a whole. I can't wait to see how this all plays out, I'm sure it will be remarkable.

The Des Moines club has developed an idea with John at Highbridge where their club will raise enough money ($600) to fund one week for a Junior at Camp Discover U. John of Highbridge will then offer one week free for a second Junior to go. A few other clubs are now looking into this. If your club might be interested to participate in this "buy one, get one free" program to send two young players to this exciting new disc sports camp experience, please contact John Jokinen at: campdiscoveru@centurytel.net
The camp website is: www.campdiscoveru.com (http://www.campdiscoveru.com)

Yeah, I'm also trying to get a few local kids to take advantage of the send one-send another free sort of deal. It's tough because not many of the local kids want to leave the summer point series and plastic they're getting.. :-\
But yeah, I've put in my resume already, I hope John considers it sufficient :-)
