I'm interested in starting a bag tag league at my home course. Is there any reference material I can check out to get me started?

Not sure if it will help, but South Carolina has a statewide bag tag. Rules can be found at www.scdgo.net. (http://www.scdgo.net.) Some of these rules are purposely different from bag-tags such as Charlotte, NC, for the purposes of variety.

Wooden Bag Tags !!!!

Wooden tags would be great if the price was right. I have found a site that has metal tags that run just shy of $4 delivered. Since the league is a fundraiser for the course, we're trying to keep initial cost low. If you know of a supplier of wooden tags drop me a line.

Thanks.

ditterman,
I am running a bag tag challenge for the Beaver State Fling (NT event in Oregon). You can check out our bag tag site at www.orsdicgolf.com (http://www.orsdicgolf.com) (and then click on bag tag). Our rules are located on that site as well. A few things that I've learned:

- Draw up a design on the computer and use Powerpoint to add the image + number. Kinkos can laminate the tags for you. The series coordinator here has special 'thick' plastic tag covers and his own laminator that works very well. Pro Worlds used Cow Tags one year (cheap at any farm supply)
- I am running everything through Yahoo! groups. It's a free service and you can upload the current standings, player contact info (for challenges) and anything else to the server. It also has a group e-mail function that makes coordination easy. The only problem is with people w/o e-mail.
- We are adding a points system to increase participation. In past years we have had some people buy a tag at the last tourney, win the event and collect the prize. To lessen that issue, we award points for each win (winning tag 1 is worth 100 points, tag 2 is 99, etc.). This method will allow AMs a solid chance at winning some prizes (and thus want to participate). Yes, this greatly increases the work of the coordinator (unless some auto-reporting system could be implemented).
- If your tags are over $5-$10 consider offering a freebie with the tag (cool mini, free participation at the field events, etc.). We upped ours from $10 to $15 this year and there have been some complaints.

Good luck with your fund raiser!

Thanks Greg. The ORS site helped quite a bit. It definitely gave me the needed reference I was looking for. I'm planning on selling the tags for $20 (lifetime membership into the tag series) and running a points challenge yearly. For this reason I'm looking into metal tags with the hope they will last for several years. I have found a place on the web that looks promising, and plan on placing a test order to check on the durability and quality. Thanks again for the info. Good luck with the NT.
