Talking about Audubon Park in Garland, TX
I know not A LOT of people on this board play the course, but it has been going through subtle, yet enormous changes.
City has planted 4x4 Tee Posts at every hole, and Numbered them.
City has also dumped filler dirt in all of the rutted teeboxes. I have yet to find a way that is portable and will help pack the loose dirt in. any ideas will greatly help. I would like to infer little if any cost while doing this as well.
also they have trimmed all of the holes, and removed all the dirt on the left side of the fairway on hole 2.
this has greatly helped, and will improve the course. There has been a great deal of traffic on the course on weekends.
now all we need is a fund for baskets, and the city is supporting the idea of it. the quote i got was "we realize that the baskets have been there since the course was installed, and that they are old, and need replacing."
we have to keep in mind that the city is installing a sewer line that will eventually in the coming months affect two-four of the holes. The city has yet to inform me of what holes will be affected, and need redesigning.
They also hold Scott Cook as their connection, and want to start a Garland Disc Golf Association.
any thoughts?

Ask the city for a soil roller. They are like mini steam rollers that you fill up with water as the weight. That is what Carrollton offered for me to use after I got in trouble using my truck :o:D (got in trouble with the police, not the Parks department)
Of course you can always just jump up and down :D

Power tampers used for tamping the fill under concrete or paving stones are available at most equipment rental locations, probably at Home Depot or Lowes as well.

will Cook take of the course?
New buckets..the trimming they have already done and the cleaning up of the course is fantastic.
will this be taken care of by the defunct Dallas club...will they accept help which they haven't done before..will the baskets be owned by the club/city and how will replacements be done?
my quick 5cents worth...
glad to see this thread and those who will read know I mean nothing but the best for this area since we have nothing organized...
Ryan - is this news you heard from the course or the city somewhere else
New buckets mean the old ones could always be put into a new park in their town...and they have a few

also agreed...you can learn alot playing on the current buckets, but improving the course and the chains/baskets...
maybe the BON will see the traffic it deserves
this is information i got from the city, i dont believe half the talk i hear on the course, i took the time to call and let them know whats going on, and they fixed it, or atleast tried. Im happy that i learned how to play on this course, its helped me A LOT! As soon as i can get the boxes done nicely it wouldnt be soo bad.
as for the Garland Disc Golf Association, my person that i talk to claims they used to have one, and it just fell apart. They want to have monthly meetings, and then elect officers and whatnot. They have alot of plans for disc golf in garland, with hints of a new course in the north end. Brand and 190(Bush turnpike)-ish.
should be a good deal if we get people involved. I held a mini out there about a month ago to see if any interest was peaked, and i got about 12 people out, and they were really hyped. so if i get it all done we could get it growing.

pat you are so right.
I am glad to hear there are some improvements being made. This is one of the first course I played on last spring when I started. I have not been out there for a while, but will go soon to see the improvements. A good course, but really a great course just waiting to happen.

I believe the statment below has to do with Ranch 111 by one of the fire wheel golf courses, I live 5 min from there.

yeah gary i went out there and took a look at the property. It would be hard to fit 18 in i think, but a killer 9 hole for sure.
I have a city contact wanting to meet on the course and walk through what could be changed.
We have an alternate on hole 4 that needs a tad bit of cleaning up and it will be a great change from the current hole. Its down that walkway towards the creek(to your right if your at the box and looking at the pin) we put two orange flags up. we have to get some filler dirt to build it up level and take out two very small shrubs that obstruct a lane. Take a gander next time your there.
Also looking at a nice alternate on hole 17(to the right of the pad about 50 ft from the road next to a big tree, about makes the hole about 50 ft shorter, but nice tough shot)
Im still trying to track down blue prints of what changes the course will infer in the future months due to the sewer line, and then what ways to adjust the holes.
finally, in the workings of creating a Garland Disc Golf Association. With possible Bag Tags and other fundraisers.
any more questions?
Let me know if there is anymore information on the formation of a Garlind Disc Golf Club. I live in Rockwall and Audubon is probably a 30 minute drive. I have also been looking for a golf club in the dallas area that is close to were i live. Being only 15, it is kind of hard to get to the courses that are farther away.
The improvements on audubon are great. I do have one question about a hole though. I think it is #8 or #9, but is the one that is right next to the creek. Is that hole made to play across the creek or is that just been played that way by other players over the years.

You are thinking of hole #5...there are 2 or 3 routes to that basket...across the water and through the trees, anhyzer around the left side or a thumber right over the top.
I have seen this hole aced over the creek and it is the shortest way there, but if you miss you are stuck climbing down that dirt wall and usually have to fetch it from the water.
The newly painted teepost signs out there look good with the distances on them.
I think thats the coolest hole on the whole course, in my opinion.:D
