Lake Park in Lewisville, TX will be holding our first ever Ice Bowl February 11th. the format will be one round of 18 with lots of ctp's and multiple ctb's ( thats for the beer ). you can sign up titledisc.com early to guarantee a players package. or you can sign up the day of the event before 9 am. reduced entry once all players packages are gone.
The entry fee is $25 for all divisions which includes a long sleeve t-shirt, your choice of a champion orc or dx roc and a mini, well worth the entry alone. there will be a $3.00 ace pot that will be played as a ctp if no aces are hit.
everyone should know the rules of an Ice Bowl, but if not, here they are:
an Ice Bowl can NOT be canceled for any reason due to weather,
NO WIMPS, NO WHINERS, NO EXCUSES for not being there.
the object of this event is raise canned goods for the North Texas Food Bank
there will also be a round of draw doubles after the event.
so, come on out and have alot of fun for a good cause.

Yea, but the Lewisville Open is this Saturday, Sunday is the Mini's in Carrollton, Next weekend is Big Show Cedar Hill, then the Midweek event on Wednesday, then Big Show ZBoaz, then the Ice Bowl in Lewisville.
that is a lot of time to take off when I need to start saving money now for the Disc Golf Cruise.

i feel the same way, it seems like there should be a way to have draw dubs for each division, i dont play the draw dubs either because it would be wrong for an open player not to cash because he drew my womens rec, no throwin, bob keepin, griplockin, arse.

seems like when you are teamed with an adv. or open player, you start to pressure cuz you know youll be out. i think thats why i enjoyed texas state doubles last year, i knew i was teamed with someone who was equal and i was going to kill their back by piggy backing all day.
Any player packs remaining?

there really is no payout. thats why its called charity event. there are incentives though. ctp for EVERY hole plus we will be having a raffle for some really nice plastic that was donated including a inncolor tour de disc golf sidewinder, a usdgc glow/us flag dyed ce roc, and others, still working on a basket to play a 5 for $5.
sounds good then! Yeah i want to be in the advanced division. Figured i should make the jump from rec, after all ive been playing for about 6 months now. haha. am I in over my head?
jdncoke
Feb 06 2006, 12:20 PM
2 years ago , i jumped from rec to adv and finished dfl every tourney, but the good thing is, you get a lot of good experience playin with better players. and sometimes you dont get all the b.s. that goes along with the rec div.
space76
Feb 06 2006, 06:11 PM
5 years, still Rec. and wont be moving till I win one or get rated above 875. I agree playing with better players helps alot, but I dont wanna pay just to play with better people and never have a chance of winning. I play casual with good players and that helps. Just my way of thinkin, I know alot of people disagree and thats ok. There is alot of BS in the Rec. division though.
agreed on the BS in rec. One of the main reasons i wanted out. Im playing Lake Lewisville on Wednesday at like 9-10ish. If there is any interest in people meeting up beforehand. I want to have played atleast one round on the course.

I will remember the '06 Lewisville Ice Bowl event as the "Wind bowl", no doubt... that was some sick wind, especially down by the water! Holes 3 and 7 tore a few guys on our card a new one. We had an honest 8 on hole 3 (no OB or penalty strokes), and a triple circle 9 on hole 7 (dude threw his first three shots in the water!)
Yeah, it was slow, but only because we had around 130 players show up for a charity event... that's just greatness!

First off, I want to say thanks to everyone that came out to play in that 30 mph sustained wind. we did have 128 players show up that raised $927 and close to 600 pounds of food for the North Texas Food Bank. My hats off to EVERYONE who ame out. you guys are the most passionate players of any sport out there. Ok, second, i'd like to apoligize for the delay and the long waits. Had i every imaganied there would be that many golfers there, we wouldve played 2 rounds and played half the filed over at L.L. Woods. next year i think we will. Third, again i apoligize for the pile of wire coat hangers that the whole ctp thing turned into, i shouldve made everyone wait another 15 minutes and that wouldve been fixed as well. But, like i said , this was my first time to try and organize something of this magnitude and we WILL get better with the help of our great friends , Tom McCutcheon and Pineapple. if you these guys tell them thanks a ton.
next, i will try to get all the score posted on this forum by this week.
thanks again for all who came out and supported this event
p.s. for those who ordered packets , i am trying to place that order to be printed and i will call or email everyone when they come in, and i will set a date and time frame that you can meet me at the lake to pick them up.

Rain dampens Ice Bowl turnout
Web Posted: 02/08/2006 12:01 AM CST
San Antonio Express-News
More than 60 players participated Jan. 28 in the annual Live Oak Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament.
advertisement
"Although there was more rain than ice, the players gamely made it through the tournament whose official slogan is 'No Wimps No Whiners,'" said event spokesman Jay Reading.
The tournament was played at the disc golf course in Live Oak City Park.
"The turnout was lower than expected due to a less than favorable forecast, but spirits were high amongst the players that did turn out," Reading said.
Despite having 45 fewer players than last year, the Live Oak Ice Bowl raised 630 pounds of food for the Greater Randolph Area Services Program.
Ice Bowl players also raised $1,200 for the Educational Disc Golf Experience program (www.edgediscgolf.org) in the Judson School District. That program introduces disc golf to students in the district.
Players for the Ice Bowl came from the local areas as well as Houston, Austin, Temple and Corpus Christi and Illinois, Virginia and Arizona, Reading said.
