Alright already :D I do have to do some work here for Uncle Sam.
Since so many of you are coming out Thursday's and playing, I thought it would be cool to organize it a little and run a Thursday night mini. Right after I thought about it, I realized I have to be in Austin next Thursday, so Carlos agreed to run the first mini for me.
Format: Singles (two players per card, three only if there is an odd number)
Divisions: Am $5, Pro $10, 100% cash payout, $2 ace pot optional. We can roll this into the spring league if it doesn't get hit.
Sign up by 5pm. tee off 5:05pm.
We'll play different formats each week.
I hope you can make it!

The summer league will start as soon as the time changes. Keith and I need to get together and decide what formats, etc. I keep hearing that everyone wants to play singles instead of doubles, so if that's the case we'll do two singles nights. From a TD perspective, singles is much easier to organze and manage, and easier to pass off if I have to miss a night or two. Others have asked me to raise the entry fees for pros.
So chime in if you have an opinion!

Very true JimBag :D In 2006 I am working on a pre-recorded players meeting that is given out on CD with entry.
Here are my suggestions Brian. I also agree about your comment with singles making it easier for anyone to help when you are away.
Format: Singles
Am Entry: $5 merch payout
Pro: $10 cash payout
CTP: $1
Optional Ace Pot: $2 carried over like before
I should be able to help run a few minis this year if you need. Between all of us we should have things well covered.
Thanks

Just to be clear we're talking summer league, and it will be two nights, one at UC and one at Live Oak, both singles unless I hear a lot of flack. Hopefully Keith can run the Tuesday night UC league again.
Here are my thoughts on formats and entry fees:
Pro entry fee $15, includes $1 ace pot, $1 party fund, $1 CTP, $12 to the payout top 1/3.
Ams $10, $1 ace pot, $1 party fund, $1 CTP, $7 cash payout top 1/2. Keeping points for merch is an extreme hassle for me. I'll still have discs for sale at the club price for everyone. Points from last year can still be redeemed.
We'll have prizes at the end of the league for top 3 at UC, top 3 at Live Oak, and top 10 overall.
And of course we'll have a great party at the end of the season!

I've been asked to raise the pro entry fee by several players, i don't really care what the entry fee is. We could always have three divisions... Big money Pro ($15), Pro ($10) and am ($10). Or just do the big money division once a week at UC.

I'm ain't cryin', I just saw the # and... Damb. I never snapped to the bottom line. How about a flat rate. EX: Vollyball @ gunn sports park is $22/player for 1 season. I would guess proly 10 games. Just makin' a comparison. How much is it to play softball? Just courious.

Pro entry fee $15, includes $1 ace pot, $1 party fund, $1 CTP, $12 to the payout top 1/3.
Ams $10, $1 ace pot, $1 party fund, $1 CTP, $7 cash payout top 1/2.
I'm with Jimbob, I think at $15 the pro is a little steep, my vote would be $12 with $9 going to payout.
As far as ams, $10 is OK with $7 to payout but I would prefer to see the payout only to top 1/3, not 1/2.

Yeah, well take a look at how many players they get year after year because it affordable. That place has been there forever. Himing had a couple good ideas, we got to remember to bring the new players in so they can learn. Just my 2 cents.

I tried three divisions before, no one played in the third division. We'll probably keep the pro entry around $10 and the am entry around $7. We may still do the $25 entry fee though to qualify for ace money. I'm also considering paying aces by the foot at the end of the league instead of an even split. If I hit a 125 footer, and you hit a 300 footer, shouldn't you get a larger share?

Jan 16 2006, 11:38 PM
Why change anything. If it ain't broken, you don't have to fix it. You averaged 25-30 people most nights during league, Sometimes it might have been lower but sometimes it was much higher in attendance. I wasn't able to attend as much as I would have liked last year because of my school scheduling, but hopefully this year will be much different, so far everything is looking a lot better as far as the tutoring schedule I will have.
My only suggestion, if you are going to change something, is to switch the play on the courses. Have LO as the singles and UC as the doubles this year. Rich already runs a doubles on Saturday at LO and Josh runs singles at UC on Sunday. Let's switch it up this year.
Just a thought. See ya'll at the Ice Bowl.

Jan 17 2006, 11:37 AM
The biggest change will be no doubles format. Pro/Am doubles is too complicated to run. And I'm only responding to those who have asked me to raise entry fees. They don't access this board. Carlos told me when they raised the entry to $20 for pros in Atlanta, the turnout tripled due to the large payout. The $25 membership to the LODGA is similar to Round Rock's and cuts down the possibility of someone from coming in at the last minute and hitting big like Smokin Joe did last year. For the $25 we'll come up with some sort of membership card or bag tag, and the rest can go into the club fund that is used to sponsor other events. I have been sponsoring events in the name of the LODGA out of my pocket to the tune of over $500 last year in merchandise. It adds up fast at $50-$100 per event. Anyway, change is good as long as it's for the better. I'll make sure its for the better.
losotd
Jan 17 2006, 11:41 AM
And I'll pass on the savings to LODGA club members when they buy merchandise. And $1 per disc sold will go into the club fund. My goal with merch sales is to just cover my expenses.

I would like to see a $3 Rec or Ladies division. Even if no one plays it they have the option. Last weekend I was amazed at how many "casuals" were on the course. Maybe $3 would help convince them to join us. Maybe also the LOLO's would play as well.

We got rid of some of the birdie holes due to all the out of towners in last night :D It's a conspiracy, I tell you!
Even with a 5 on the trecherous 11C (750 feet), Jerry still shot -7. Good job, mange! And i managed a 5 on a 170 foot hole (7), but I was 30 foot out from 11C for the 3 and chained out, boo!

The following is a post from Timmy Gill copied from another forum. Here's the link to it if you want to keep up/ follow up on this exciting news. LINK ChrisP.
Hello all,
I am very excited to post the following.
I waited till now because I did not want to get myself and many of you all fired up and then let down, BUT WE"RE ON!!!!
Next Tuesday, the 23rd of May, I will be on the ESPN2 morning show called Cold Pizza. LIVE from New York City. They will be doing teasers doing hour 1, with me on during hour number 2 with a five minute segment. Disc Golf in general and DGTV will be the basis of the segment. I had a basket shipped to the studio and will be knocking down 15 footers with the anchors while showing some file footage of DG being played.
I will try to get a general email for everyone to bombard telling them how you want to see more DG on ESPN.
I will be meeting with a handful of other ESPN peeps as well.
So please watch or DVR it. 10AM EST to 12pmEST.
Disc Golf is Fun.
