On June 24th 2006, we will attempt to take womens disc golf in Utah to a new level. In the last few years, we have had fewer women playing our monthly events and our PDGA events than we had in years previous. We currently have only 3 female PDGA members and the most participants we had at a single event were four. In September we hosted the Utah Challenge, an A/B tier event. We only had one woman player and she ended up playing with AM men (beating some of them). Although the Solitude course is long and grueling, I thought we would attract more women to an event of that caliber.

Our goal is to significantly increase participation at our monthlies and PDGA events. We hope to have 10 female PDGA members in the state by the end of the year. There are a considerable amount of ladies that play recreationally with their husbands or boyfriends and may be a little intimidated by competitive play. By holding a womens specific event, we are hoping to foster an environment in the state that will draw more women to competitive disc golf.

I live in Boulder, Colorado, and am considering attending this event. Will there be folks offering up places to stay? I don't mind the gas money, but that plus a hotel for a few nights is a bit much.

Thanks!

I will have some room in my house, but I'd imagine it'll fill up quick. I'm about 30-45 minutes from the course, feel free to send me a pm if you're interested.

Our Inncolor discs have printed. Check them out at Utah Women's Inncolor Disc (http://www.innovadiscs.com/cfr/2005/06UtahWomens.jpg).

If you would like to support this great event, you may purchase a disc at Utah Women's Championship (http://www.nudga.org/page5.html). The disc was designed by Melissa Turchi. A big thanks to Innova and those of you that have already purchased a disc.

I received the Inncolor discs yesterday, and decided I needed to buy myself another one ;). I mailed off the first 3 out of state, we have 10 left. We currently have 10 women signed up, 6 from Utah, and 4 from Colorado. We have places to stay for some out of state girls, we would love to have you.

One month until the Utah Women's Championship's and we have 19 registered players (16 out of the 19 are non PDGA members). At least 9 of those non members will be going home with full PDGA memberships. The player's pack's that include the sport polo shirts (http://nudga.org/Gallery/Logos/Shirtlogo) will be given to the first 25 registered participants. We still have a few Inncolor discs left if anyone is interested. For more information, go to www.nudga.org (http://www.nudga.org)

The first Utah Women's Championships were unbelievable. Unfortunatly we had some women that did not show up. We ended up with 18 total participants.

TGI-Fridays helped us out with a great lunch. The weather stayed perfect for the entire day. The advanced division came down to a playoff between Ashley Hall and Melissa Turchi. All of the other player's and volunteers were able to form a good size gallery. Ashley was able to birdie the second hole for the win.

The raffle was extremely successful in raising enough additional money for full PDGA memberships for all of the girls that played. Utah has 13 new PDGA members and Idaho has 3.
Including player's packs, memberships and payout; the total event value was %2090.

A big thanks to:
Utah Womens Disc Golf
Innova
Solitude
Revolution
Canyon Sports
Hummingbird Disc Golf
TGI-Friday's
All of our other sponsors and those who bought a CFR disc.

We will see you next year. I will post a link to the photo gallery soon. I am also trying to put something together for disc golf tv.

Thanks,
Rob

That is amazing about the 16 PDGA Memberships given away! Now that is what Women's tournaments should be about. I'm still totally amazed that only 2 girls that played the event were PDGA members to begin with. You guys sound like you did an awesome job! Keep it up and maybe I'll get a chance to come play it next year. With all the Women's events in the plannings, and that have already happened it would be really sweet to tour and just play women's only events! Again, great job!

It is the Walter Fredderick Morrison disc golf course at Creekside park. Most people just call it Creekside. It is located just South of Salt Lake City. It was built around 1982. It has a little bit of everything and requires many shots.
