is it just me or does it seem kind of petty to block a player's rating history because they haven't renewed 9 frackin days into the new year? Pretty stupid if you ask me, especially since many people haven't renewed due to there being very few PDGA events this time of year and having to spend money on the family for holidays etc.
another example of the PDGA not seeing the forest for the trees. If i wasn't a state coordinator i would be tempted to not renew and just pay the 5$ at any events i want to play.
but i guess that's just me....

It would be nice if they could figure out how to do a rolling calendar. Like driver's liscence(sp?). Pay on Sept. 27, 2005 expire on Sept. 26, 2006. I was pretty mad when I realised my first dues only got me 7 or 8 months. Oh well, I try to make sure new players know. I agree renewing on Jan. 1 isn't cool post holiday blues and all.

They allow you to pay for multiple years now so you only have to whine about this every few years.

That's funny. They'll block your ratings history, but you are still able to access the message board.

I agree that members in 2005 should still be able to see ratings info until probably March 1 since the mid-Feb ratings update is the final ratings of 2005. When Theo was more involved with managing the website, he had it set with a grace period into the next year. It's possible this is just an oversight this year while the website management is gradually passing from Theo to PDGA Staff. I'll check into it.

Theo has been contacted to assist Dave and Pat with the web programming needed to extend the grace period thru the mid-Feb ratings update.

i just got the spec for this, and yes, we will be recoding to allow member a grace period into the new year. non-current members will be able to see their ratings and details, and post on the board.
after the grace period, however, those membership benefits will expire.

Hey Pat, I heard that our Waterloo rounds are included in the ratings. Of course as I only mailed off my renewal last week, I am unable to confirm that. :(
At least I can still post... or can I?

Official results with ratings are showing up on the tourney page.
Did Waterloo have mulligans (like normal)? If so, it shouldn't generate valid ratings!

Jan 10 2006, 11:31 AM
That was my thinking as well (about the Mulligans and not counting). Matt Harris told me I had a 987 rated round of golf. I sure want to see it "online" before it's corrected.
That would mean I play as good of a game as I talk. :D
I think I only played World Doubles and Waterloo last year.

Click on the PDGA Tour link above. Navigate to October 2005. Click on trophy next to Waterloo. Click on Show Round Ratings. :)

In general, X-tiers should not be rated since usually the format is not "normal" singles. We'll remove the Waterloo ratings from the next update. Interestingly, mullligan format ratings are real close to what the ratings would likely have been without mulligans. What happens is the SSA is reduced for that round since everyone shoots better. And better players still use the results of their mulligans better. It still doesn't mean we plan to include mulligan rounds in the long run.

since everyone was playing under the same conditions, there is no real reason to not include waterloo rounds. mullies are a mental aspect of the game. as chuck mentioned, it doesnt really affect the relative nature of the ratings, so why not include them.

i've already added a grace period check to the player stats page, so people who are just a little late in renewing are now able to see their ratings and tourney history.
now someone had dam well better start a thread about how incredibly responsive the PDGA is about making changes the members request, since this morning was the first i became aware of the issue.
Dick
Jan 10 2006, 02:18 PM
yes, you guys apparently are incredibly responsive. thanks
just seems that it should have been thought of to add a grace period for people who paid last year to see the ratings stuff. but if it's fixed now for the future, that's great! :)
BTW, what is the grace period? IMO it should be 90 days since april is the true beginning of the season for many people.
sandalman
Jan 10 2006, 02:21 PM
it is coded as a variable, so its easy to change. currently i have it set at 51 days, which allows players to see their final ratings for the year in which they were a member (51 days puts us at Feb 20, which is after the mid-Feb update.)
however, i am not the final say on that, Brian is. so it might change.
btw, early january is the true beginning of the season for many people also. thats the trouble with using "season". if it was me i would keep it about 51 days, since that allows the player to see what they paid for , ie last year's ratings.

LMAO!
Mulligan rounds should NOT count towards ratings. Even if you did play waaaaaaaay above your rating without taking one. :p

I had to bring it up, some of my fellow "Team Drinks-Alot" team members were questioning if I was drinking O'Douls or some other non-alcholic beer durring my lunch break.
That kind of golfing behavior would get rolled off the team.

Great One,
I was going to organize that, but I never got the information sent to me from I believe Mr. Towne. Also we discussed this at the time of affiliation, but the members never responded when time came. I offer the good Dr.

Thank you for extending the grace period.
The Mid-Atlantic Disc Club accepted Affiliate Club PDGA renewals through Feb 20th 2005 last year and I would assume is doing similar this year. There would likely have been a lot of ticked-off people if player rating history and message board access was blocked while waiting for renewal.

if you got no renewal packet....there is only 3 ways for that to happen...lost in mail, you moved and left no forwarding address,or you weren't a current member in 05......otherwise you would have gotten 1.....
ps....you can also renew by phone w/o the fee if you prefer to be lazy  :D

Jan 11 2006, 11:19 PM
doubtful keith. the pdga couldn't even take a credit card payment by phone for an event fee, so what makes you think i can renew by phone? the 3$ fee is from the people they are running the online store through i would guess. i will probably renew through calvert, mail in a check or just pay at my first event.

I have no problem with the fee on the web site, I know that it cost me and average of 3.5% to run credit cards in my store. When I run a tournament entry fee, I personally pay the fee as part of sponsorship.
If you don't want to pay the fee, mail in a check.
