We have been talking about designing courses where each teeing area is considering a certain length for a certain par of a certain skill level. Red tee pads designate that they are designed for players close to 850, or under 875. Whites are for 900. Blue:950, Gold:1000.
Let's say a course has 4 different sets of tees on every hole. Let's also say that we've been lucky enough to have played each in a tournament and established SSA's for each.
My question: what is the best way to establish SSA's specific for these skill levels other than gold?
A player at a red skill level playing on red pads doesn't gain much from knowing the (gold) SSA. They need to know the goal course par for the skill level of tees they are throwing.
Posting SSA's also helps to compare course to course difficulty as not only course difficulties vary tremendously, but also what skill level color/ par per hole is chosen for a particular set of tees. Under the current system, a red course could play much tougher than a blue course somewhere else.
The good news is that this should be easy to do. Right? If we want to know what a white SSA is from the (gold) SSA, we just subtract 10 strokes.
Where does compression factor in? If the (gold) SSA is 50.4, should the white SSA be 60.4? What if the (gold) SSA is 70?? Is there a chart somewhere that will show easy conversions?
Has this idea been thought of yet? I know it sounds confusing to make SSA's for each skill level, when only the gold SSA is used for player rating purposes. An alternative would be to post the normal (gold) SSA's for each set of tees and also post how to do the conversion for (gold) SSA 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, & 70 courses.
What are the toughts here?
