The courses are in better condition now. You can see all the efforts to prepare for the Pros next weekend. The turf is starting to show more green than brown. Drought conditions in Central Texas has completely eliminated any water on the courses but, all it would take is a good gully washer to change that. Forecast are showing rain chances by mid week and even more for the weekend. Maybe the Pros will see some water flowing ???

http://www.circularproductions.com/images/stories/articles/circle_r_map.gif
Rolling Hills map above ^^^

Anyways, I had another incredable disc golf experience and shaved off nine strokes from my previous rounds. I'll be making atleast one more trip out there (maybe two) before the tournament. Unfortunatly, I will not be releasing any additional information about secrets I am learning under the public information act. Good luck to anyone not practicing these beautifully designed and best maintained courses anywhere in this galaxy. You'll need it !

For all of those looking for a player's list, here is the response I got back from Circular Productions Staff:

Sorry man, I do not know if/when a list is going to be available. We are
running around trying to get a lot of things done before next weekend, so a
list of players is not available at this time. As for the AM weekend, that
is still a while away so we might have a list for that one available in the
future, but I cannot say for sure.

So... It looks like if we want a players list we'll likely need to provide it ourselves... Teams I've heard of from Houston:
Jim Davidson/Robbie Bratten

I think if you have a player rating over 959 you should be forced to play in the open division like the PDGA recomends.

I was looking at a couple of european tournaments and they have 90+ open players. So if we forced the top am players to play open they would be cashing in the open field due to the large numbers.

I think that it is pathetic how scared these am players are. Heck I only played in four advanced tournaments before I moved up, and I cashed in my first open event.

Uh -- you left out your 11 intermediate tournaments prior to the 4 advanced tournaments.

If you add up your 30+ open events you've probably broken even on entry fee versus prize money -- you've also probably spent 600+ hours of your time to earn that $0. I didn't factor in all of your expenses and practice time too.

The point is we're participating in exhibitions here -- "pathetic and scared" is kind of harsh for guys hitting trees with a frisbee. Let 'em be.

They might start making fun of how dumb the vast majority of open pros are for continuing to give the same 4 or 5 guys their entry fee year after year and then where will your fragile ego hide?

the_kid
Mar 15 2006, 08:22 PM
Then again those guys in AMS go into the hole at every event and I would rather break even and play in a copmpetitive division then "give $$$" in Ams.

Chris, you did skip the super bagging in ADV and I give you props for stepping up but you super bagged INT enough to make up for it.... :D

Ya but look at where I was playing int.

Nobody was playing Adv except Matt and Ikes in Houston so I didn't no any better. I could not keep up with those two guys at that time, and I don't think playing int for a year and a half is supper bagging. Really it wasn't even a year because I moved up to Adv after Texas States like I said I would. Maybe If I played Int for three to four years you could make that point.

And I am not saying that the lower level Adv players should be playing in open, but the top Adv players are usually cashing in the open field. Heck look at Matts scores for most of his tournaments last year and he was cashing high in open.

Look at the last PDGA magazine and you will see some Adv players with 990, 980, and 970 players ratings. Now that is supper bagging. When I got second at States last year I had a rating of 964.

Jay and Mike got up four strokes early, but by hole 15 Donald and JD had whittled it down to one.

Jay just hit a huge put on #16 to push it to two strokes with two holes left.

Meanwhile, Kevin and Coda just took a three on RM #18 for the second day in a row (Best Shot). Very impressive.

Still no word from the hill.

Congratulations to Lil' Bit and Testa in Open! If N8 declines cash in order to play Tulsa this will be a big confidence booster.

There sure were some interesting swings in several divisions.

What about those GM's! I don't know what courses each division played, but the 53 by Edwards & Wilson in Round 3 tied for lowest score for that round in ALL divisions and surged them into first.

MarcAce and El Chile: You hung tough 'till that Final. Was it the Worst Shot that gotcha? No sweat; your bringing home the trophy from TX St Dbs!!!! Congratulations on that win!

Thanks Haufmeister. 180 mph winds was a strong storm, but from what I hear people survived. The area it hit is far north Queensland, which is not as populated, and well above sea level.

Thanks to John and staff for a fun weekend.

Thanks Matt for asking me to play. If it wasn't for playing the Hill Course we would have finished higher :D I think we played well together with 2 good rounds on the Meadows (almost perfect best shot) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif With my course knowledge and your putt we did well.

Congrats to Mike and Jay, you guys played 4 great rounds. JD and Donald congrats also. Also great to see Des and Julianna play with the men, wish we could have played a round with you both.

My only complaint was the tee boxes. The Fly Pads are now officially the worst tee boxes I could imagine playing on. Reese you should have seen them, they are $%@#. Mitch your signature is right on.

Thanks again for a fun weekend. Go LIVE OAK :D

Not the entry fees, I think its because the PDGA has catered to AMS so much , that now we don't have many NEW pros, and the old ones are fading away. Ok I know I bicthed about that all last week, I'll move on ;)

Mar 20 2006, 01:34 PM
It might have something to do with the fact that there was an A-tier and a Major on the same weekend, even though the Tour Standards (http://pdga.com/documents/td/06TourStandards.pdf) don't allow it.

Yeah, changing the date of the St. Pat's Classic wouldn't have guaranteed 100 extra west coast players at doubles, but it wouldn't have forced them to make a choice between the two events.

It says an exception for World Dubs.

I believe the Tour standards allow it if the Major TD allows it. Don't know if Houck said OK for St. Pat's but he could have without violating any guideline.
