read somewhere that in the AM worlds 2005 everyone on the waitlist was accpeted to play. I have a busy summer, but would really like to play in tulsa. I will be on the waitlist and I was wondering what the likelyhood i will be able to play is?

The Texas...errrr....I mean Oklahoma AM Worlds might very well fill (off the wait list) this year. There are A LOT of disc golfers from Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas who will by playing this year. If you plan on trying to play this year via the waitlist, make sure you get on the waitlist early.
It would not surprise me if not everybody who wants to play gets to play this year.

It's a divisional thing.
A couple of divisions are usually expected to break into flights, provisions are made for a few others to break up as well.
The table below shows a growing trend, and with worlds back in the middle of the country close enough for most players to travel to, some divisions could fill this year.
The scheduling thing is that all flights must play the same number of rounds on the same courses before the midweek shuffle, and again before the semis. The largest division is MA1, and they normally get most of 4 flights. At 72 players per flight, it limits the division to 288 players.
MM1 is the second largest, and someitmes requires more than 1 flight, but hasn't exceeded 2 flights (144 players) yet.
The rest of the divisions generally combine for less than 2 flights together. This means that the schedule is normally formatted for a max of 8 flights (576 players).
The first 4 flights are scheduled to play the same courses the same number of times before and after the shuffle, and the second 4 flights are scheduled to play the same courses the same number of times before and after the shuffle.
The first 4 flights will not normally be playing the same courses the same number of times as the second 4 flights.
In fact the secon 4 flights will generally be split into 2 groups of 2 flights because of the difference in ratings of the divisions and be playing different courses altogether.
Thus the divisional limits are along the lines of:
MA1 - 288
MM1 - 144
All other divisions - 144
If there are only 100 MM1 players and about 40 MG1 players, then they can be combined freeing up more room in the remaining divisions.
It can be an interesting juggling act to get everything filled up, but it is possible for the MA1 division to fill and open slots still be available in the other divisions.
<table border="1"><tr><td>Year</td><td>MA1</td><td>MM1</td><td>FW1</td><td>MG1</td><td>MS1</td><td>FM1</td><td>FG1</td><td>FS1</td><td>Jrs
</td></tr><tr><td>2002</td><td>153</td><td>65</td><td>19</td><td>12</td><td>0</td><td>8</td><td>0</td><td>0</td><td>22
</td></tr><tr><td>2003</td><td>213</td><td>96</td><td>32</td><td>27</td><td>2</td><td>0</td><td>2</td><td>0</td><td>29
</td></tr><tr><td>2004</td><td>278</td><td>118</td><td>37</td><td>42</td><td>11</td><td>7</td><td>6</td><td>0</td><td>80

The invitations need to be sent first. Then the waitlist will be made available. Getting in early will not matter - as the PDGA has certain criteria they use to invite folks off of the waitlist. Since an Am Worlds has never filled in the past, those who wanted to play and were there did play. However, I suspect that this year's Am Worlds will fill...
KC in '03 was just a couple of dozen short of filling as memory serves...

Most of them will already play enough to qualify for an invite without an automatic exemption. Just a small token of appreciation for those few that are eagle club members.

So, I have a question: Do they take all the 1000+ point players out of the top 20% when they make the rest of the invites?
There are 6 players in GA that have over 1000. Then I am 4th down on the list below the 6 players at 1000+, with 752. Does this make me in the top 20% for the automatic bid or will I need to try and get in on the wait list? Also, my buddy Matt was registered in MD all of last year but has switched his address with his re-newing of membership, does that mean he is a GA player for the Worlds or do they go on last years place of membership?

I have a few things that I was wondering about throughout the day today. Not saying that its a bad idea but does anyone else think that they waiting list should be done a little earlier than March 6? I was looking at the post and the host hotel is 25% full well I know Im not going to be invited because of I only have 2 PDGA events to this time. But the thing is how positive is it that if I bought my plane tickets and hotel room today that I would get on the waiting list in 2-3 months. All that stuff is not refundable and I dont want to put in all that money to not make the tournament. Also I saw the room package started on the 21st is there like pre qualifiers or something like that when is the best time to get the room from when to when?
twoputtok
Feb 02 2006, 10:15 AM
Justin, the fact that you are playing in the Jr division all but secures your acceptance from the wait list. The hotel package that starts on the 21st is designed for players that want to come in the weekend before to play all of the courses before the event. The Host hotel also has a rate for players that want to come in just before the tournamnet and only stay a few nights.
We have tried to accomodate the different situtaions that players will have by having different hotel packages.
You will want to stay at the host hotel if possible. We are trying have transportion available for the jr division, from the host hotel each day to and from the courses.

I'm sure the option is available. Any production company who wants to pursue media permission arrangements for video projects with the PDGA is encouraged to do so. Does Mohawk offer RV hookups? Or can you recommend places in Tulsa that do? I know I heard people talking about that this weekend at Z. Might be something I will have to do too...Melissa's and Dave's place might get crowded.

We should have two more course up in a week. Once they are all done we will have them up on the website. Its been a little hectic as Mohawk is about to go in and Haikey is being completly redesigned over the next three weeks, once that is completed and we have the final lay out we will post the pics and hole descriptions.
here is a link to the McCLure course.

Don't change Haikey too much!!! I played McClure, Dovillio, and Haikey the last time I was there, and Haikey was my favorite! I've heard there are some bottlenecks, so I can understand removing those. The 500+ ft righty-anhyzer hole by the creek (#10, 11 or 12) is an awesome one. I'm sure all the courses will be top-notch.

Kevin McCoy is designing it so be ready for some challenges.
One hole you may remember, #7 the tunnel shot, now it goes the oppisite direction. So instead of shooting out of a tunnel, now its open and it narrows down the tunnel to the basket.

I think the problem with bagtags, especially ones of that magnitude (geographically) is that the more players that have them, the more in-demand they are...kind of like the bigger the turnout for a tournament, the more people that want to play in it. I'm not sure how you get the hype bigger (other than locally, where I'm sure it's huge), but I wouldn't want to charge much for the tag. I imagine there is HUGE elasticity for the price for something like that. I.E. you'd sell more than twice as many at half the price, and thus have more overall proceeds. I can't imagine many people wanting to spend more than $5 on one unless they're REALLY benefited by it, or unless there are lots of players to compete against. I think a great way to sell them is to have it optional on the online PDGA renewal site. That way more people at least consider it when they're already making a purchase.

Feb 16 2006, 10:58 PM
Long winded Henry :DMake the purchase now so you don't have to wait until Worlds...it is about supporting the sport and done correctly...the TDSA is still one of the best clubs in the nation and when it goes to further the Worlds and disc golf..get one..

Granted the tag purchase supports the tournament, but why would you buy one if you are not going to challenge with it?
You will still get a tag if you lose the challenge. What it is, is that these people are afraid of being beaten. I always accept tag challenges for the tags I hold. It is just a number, whats the big deal?

I have nothing against a person having a tag they do not use for challenges (unless it's in the top 10). I have a couple like that, but I have always bought a second tag to use for challenges.
If you are going to get a tag to keep, please also get a tag to use for challenges.

To me the tag will represent memories. I will have that tag on my bag for many years to come....it will always serve as a reminder of the great experience I had. I waited to confirm travel mates and when I called this morning they said it was full but had rooms for $89.00 a night with an extended stay, the lady on the phone really wanted me to book it right then but instead she gave me a 24 hour reservation hold. Is there any way more rooms could be blocked for the tournament or any recommendations on alternate hotels to stay at near by?

Mar 18 2006, 09:01 PM
Sorry about the bad post, the Host Hotel is not full but the corporate office won't tell you that. I called the Tulsa Branch and asked to make a reservation, they transfered me to the corporate office who then told me that the rooms blocked under that code were full btu they could offer me a room at a reasonable rate. I called a friend to see if he was able to make a reservation and he said yes so I called back and asked to make a reservation, again they transfered me to the corporate office who this time told me I needed to call the hotel directly to book under the code PDG, so on the third try I called the Host Hotel directly and asked to make the reservation through the front desk and not the corporate office for of scam artists.
Moral of the story, don't give up and don't take no for an answer when making reservations at the Holiday Inn

Perhaps you should try again.
Getting 'on' the waitlist is more important than being first on it...as their criteria for extending invitations off of the waitlist are based on your previous year's performance in relation to the players in your division in your state.
