I decided that the Memorial was going to cost too much for what I was getting out of it, so...
I'm going to FL for a week. This includes the Am leg of the CCC.
I hope to hang with all the DGr's that I did last year, and have just as good a time.

Its funny that when you arrive at a course 2:30 a.m the morning of the tourney and sleep in your car and then get up and play never seeing any of the holes until the first round and then win the intermediate division you get called a bagger. I could see if you run away with the division and win by 10 but when you win by 1 or 2 thats a joke..

Kilgus.....don't play intermediate ever again unless it is a skins comp where you can earn large denominations of cash! Your too good, and not a lowly bagger trying to intimidate intermediates like some others I've seen in that division for years.

The advanced field in NorthCarolina is different from any other state. I have done well for my first year in considering i moved up mid year. I started the year not cashing, now i am placing top ten consistantly. North carolina's advance division in the Raliegh area is a hard division to be in. There are tons of good advance players, my advanced performance has been just fine and getting better and better.
As far as DNA he never appologized for breaking the rules. He cheated the whole int field not just me.

Not only will the sawgrass tear your hands up, but they SWALLOW discs too. I had my first witnessed ace 3 years back @ USF, then the sawgrass on 25 stole my ace disc. We spent three hours looking for it. Of course, it was a day later, so...

I threw a drive straight into the large sawgrass bush on hole 7, 40 feet in front of me to the left and never found the disc. After spending a good 30 minutes looking for it and tearing up my arms and legs with razor like cuts, it finally occurred to me what had happened. When the disc hit the saw blades,it was disintegrated into microscopic pieces of plastic, and vanished without a trace.....that's some bad grass.

Advanced players played from gold tees on #2, #5, and #10 in Sunday's round. #2's gold tee is quite interesting, as you're shooting through a window (heaven help you if you nick it). #10 gives you a lot more canyon to cross on the "cross canyon" shot, and the landing area seems a little smaller from up there.

I am sorry to be in the know and confirm the sad news :(
Des and I got to play one of the last rounds there yesterday with course designer, Greg Hosfeld. It was our first time and man am I glad we got to see this incredible disc golf property.
John, the owner, for the last 35 years and raising four youngsters is sad to move on, but the kids have all moved on as well.
We talked with him for quite a while and he loves the game of disc golf and the kind people that shared his property.
Greg hit dead center basket on hole 24 off one of the many cliffs. Would have been nice to see his last round give up one last ace.
I don 't know how we all could have saved the property.

I just e-mailed a couple of pictures to you. If you don't get them, post back and I'll post them on a web page and link to them.
My brother and I are building a private course ourselves. John knew this, and at last year's Cross Canyon, as I was playing the hanging basket, John strolled by and yelled "Sauls! You need to build one of these on your course!" As if such a hole could be easily constructed, complete with a mature pine on top from which to hang a basket!

Got 'em. Thank you.
I always wanted another crack at #18.
I'm pretty sure that the baskets will be pulled very quickly, but it will take quite a while for the developer to get the land in shape for any construction to begin. There's a ton of removal and grading to be done. The fact that you will no longer be required to sign an insurance waiver will probably preclude any activities on the land. It is quite hazardous.
I am somewhat curios to see what they do with this land. It doesn't seem that it will be easy to anything except what we did!

Wow, this is too bad. I got to play it twice last spring and truely was heaven! Just like most of us, Ive had dreams of playing disc golf only to wake up disappointed...one time in particular, recently I might add, I woke up from a dream that I was about to Tee off at the Canyon, gggrrr.
I can remember emptying my bag on hole 24(I think, down the cliff), then ran down to retrieve my discs only to re-empty. The whole time John was standing there talking to us wanting one of us to hit it. He always seemed to come out of nowhere all over the course...lol..Some VERY memorable UNFORGETTABLE golf shots on that slice of heaven. Intensity was that course's attribute. All I got to play was the Gold's both rounds and glad I did...I could go on...Hole 2, 7, 18, 27, and the one where you throw over the huge gap then up a little ways...favorites..
What were some of your favorites?

Starting the "nasty nine" trying to squeeze an anhyzer (RHBH) under a huge live oak limb but over the hill behind it....then over a split-rail fence to an alien basket, with oblivion for a backdrop.
And knowing that 26 holes to follow would be just as cool.
Watching folks 6-putt the hanging basket in a stiff wind, where even laying up held no guarantees.
Playing #1 while watching for discs falling from the sky from #27 (?). You may not like crossing fairways, but could you relinquish either of these holes?
Not to mention the incredible views from the hilltops and the otherworldly feeling of the canyon bottoms.
It was not only an incredible piece of property with a wonderful and gracious property owner, but a terrific design as well.
I'll miss every inch of it, except perhaps the sawgrass. Fortunately last winter, with knowledge that it was for sale and this day would come, I took lots of photos so I can replay it in my mind.

When I try to think of favorites, I come up with the same answer as Schweb, 1-27!
Some of my favorite memories though are:
First year there hitting what Matt Peckham called a "shadow ace" on 24 when the tree was still there. I went backdoor hyzer and the shadow of my disc was in the shadow of the chains all the way down until it hit the plywood base of the basket.
Last year parring #10 (the canyon then up hole) from both teepads, and parking #12 (BIG downhill hyzer). Also nailing a 10-15 foot putt on the hanging basket, and another one on #20 when I was 25 feet behind the basket staring at the bottom of the canyon.
My favorite hole was probably #23. One wrong move around that green and you're dead.
