There are so many Ice Bowls each year. They are small and cheap and offer a lot of fun. They get a lot of casual players who do not play PDGA events. What if, as a gesture of good will towards the thousands of disc golfers who are raising money for charity, the PDGA offered $1 tournament fees? all Ice Bowls would be D Tiers or XC tiers.
This would add a lot of players to the PDGA database. Once you get someone into the database, they can start looking at their stats (even if they are round ratings or placement) and may start to play more events. It would also make those who play 5 ice bowls more inclined to play more events.
I do see a downside though. No mulligans. No crazy formats.
Would you run or attend an event more if there was a low priced PDGA option?
Disc Golf gets more publicity out of the Ice Bowl in local markets than just about any other events. This can only be good for the game, and it would seem that the PDGA would be willing to offer discounted fees during some of the slowest months of the year to help boost turnouts and exposure.
