I was gonna buy one at DJ's in Santa Cruz (for $20), but after feeling/touching it, was unsure about its durability and stability. I read that someone said these are more (over)stable than the Champion TeeBirds...I find that hard to believe. Also, the durability is the same as Champion plastic? I also find that hard to believe.
Any thoughts? Thanks. I'm definitely a TeeBird thrower, and don't want to miss a good new plastic, but I'm unsure where this may fit into my bag, and if it's really worth the extra $$$. Thanks.

I've been testing 150g STAR TEebirds vs. my normal driver (150g gummy Champion Teebird). I find the STAR version to be a little LESS overstable than the Champion, a little longer (more glide), quite a bit stiffer, and just a little slicker (less grippy).
I don't know if these observations would translate to heavier plastic, but it is my experience (albeit limited to 10 days or so).

so far...I have been throwing a 171g and a 175g for a couple of weeks...they have held up very well so far(they seem as durible as champion)...I do like the grip...they have basically the same path in the air(for me anyway)...$20 seems a bit high(going for $17 around here) :o

I am throwing a max weight white one seems a little more stable, not any more grippy than a champ. I do love it though cannot wait for an orange one.

I was throwing a 175 Gram white Star Teebird.. Although I dislike the grip(it's a fluke disc) The Disc was More overstable than even my 11x Birds and seemed to carry a litle more glide...
WHen i get a nice tacky(red or blue hopefully) high weighted Teebird it will replace at least one of my 11x teebirds in my bag..

p.s. I just got one of the Limited Edition Black ones in a trade.. Makes me want to throw it becuase it's so nice :(

Thrown my 175 gram , Star Teebird today. Overstable.
When thrown with Flex , it really goes !!!!! Holds the line well.
Handles headwind with no issues. You can throw this disc hard with no worries of it getting away from you.
Pretty durable too !!!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Ray I think I told you in a PM that I didn't think I'd like the StarT's if they were slightly less overstable. I hereby stand corrected. The StarT's absolutely rock. Side by side with Champ T's the Star's are noticeably more domey. Not sure if that characteristic translates into better glide, but the Stars, in my hands at least, are a consistently longer disc than the Champ T's and the factor seems to be that they just stay in the air longer once they settle into a glide (hmmmmm, staying in the air longer may be part of the definition of longer disc...). I've read folks talking about the lack of durability of the white Star plastic in particular, but I gotta tell you the white Star T's I have are just as durable as champ. A dead center hit on a full pull at 75 feet with a 18" poplar tree and the disc only had a smudge. The poplar tree had a divot. Another dead center hit on a small radius 2" mountain laurel, again full pull, this time at 60 feet and just another brown smudge on the disc. It was 31 degrees the whole afternoon and even in that temperature to me they were slightly tackier in the hand than regular champ tee's but not as tacky as my gummy Winders and Beasts. Probably time to order another handful of StarT's out of the same molding. Man I can't wait for Star Firebirds, if they are going to run them in 150 class that is.:cool:

They glide so fine! And much cheaper to replace then older CE's. $15 in the Charlotte market.

they are sweet, i got one for christmas and have played one round with it. I cannot believe how stable it is and how durable it is. I kept underestimating its stability and could barely flip it. Definitely earned a spot in my bag when i lose all my 11x teebirds

My buddy didnt grab me the max weight I wanted, I got orange 172, and I have to put noticeably more hyzer on it to fly on the same line as my max wt. 11x. It glides farther than champ plastic, and it is more domey (connection?) Ill bet a seasoned max weight would be $$$. Are whites less durable than coloreds?

I got an orange 170g Star TeeBird about a week ago...I'm loving it! Way more stable than I thought it would be, and quite durable too. I can really see this plastic taking over the DG world! Thanks for everyone's responses.

The green ones are grippier and more overstable, the red ones are more durable and flippier, the orange ones have better glide and less torque, the white ones...
Who the [I'm a potty-mouth!] cares what color they are?????????????

I have a white, orange, light blue, and red Star Teebird...
So far I've only thrown the ORange and white, but I really like the ORange one.. Nice grip and wicked stable.. It also glides a little bit further than my 11x. They might completely replace my 11x teebirds... Too bad i have like 14 of them and only 5 Star teebirds.

I am. Black SoCal Champ SB Teebird, 174g
A hair more overstable than my 11x KC Pro Teebird. Love it.

Mine had no color, which made it impossible to throw.
I heard the red ones glide more, so I dyed it red, and I was able to throw it 400 feet! I wanted a little more distance, so I dyed it even redder, and now I can throw it 500 feet!!
Now I want to set the world distance record so I'm going to the store to get more red dye now.

...and I heard that 500' throw was with a chickenwing! :D

With a chicken wing I'd just have to dye it a little pink to go 500

Today I made the mistake of buying a Star Teebird.
Complete and total mistake.
Maybe the worst mistake of the winter.
Because the only color available locally was white, and as soon as it snows again I'm going to go back to my blue champion one, unused to it, and it is going to hurt my game, missing the white star teebird...
I effortlessly was throwing the white star as far as I throw my 175 Wraith. The Champ plastic was overstable a touch, and when I tried to snap it for distance it was a fine line between perfection and flipping it madly. With this thing I don't need to snap as much to flip it up and glide it a mile, so I can just relax...
I love it. Looooove it.
I also hit about 8 trees and a steel park sign today... no dents, scrapes, just a mark from some paint that came off on it! The durability stories are true! YES!
-Chris.

Haha... You missed the entire point of the sadness! The sadness is that the only color available was WHITE with a gold stamp... and its winter my good man! Right now I'm loving the disc, but as soon as we get a good snowfall... I'm screwed for any tournaments because I won't be used to my champ plastic teebird (which is colored blue, easy to find in the snow... versus the horribly hard to find white).
I love the disc. But the fact that I had to get white makes me cry right now :)

Sharpie it up.. OR dye it.. They have them available in other colors for max weight now too.. it was only the first run that was white only..
I say dye it up if you like it that much.

The first run Star TeeBirds come in a variety of colors, however, white is the most common.

as far as i'm concerned the first run star teebirds(Production run, not the black cali stamped) Only were white in max weight.. Since then they have added more colors... That's what was posted from zonedriven... I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that was all that was available from the first run at least on the east coast.

Learning to dye is a project for this coming summer.
I'm a solid artist, and I wish their was another way to do things like that... *idea for new thread* :P
