The dates are set. May 6th & 7th, 2006, DisCrazy will host this year's DisCrazy Shootout at the beautiful and challenging Disc Creek Disc Golf Course in Amarillo's Thompson Park. This year will see all typical divisions offered, an extended 27 hole course, and more fun & good times than last year!

For those of you have witnessed previous final 9's at Amarillo events, this is your chance to play the holes around the lake. The extra holes will take you around the South Lake, beside the Fish Pond, and around the Middle lake. There will be 3 par 4's and 6 par 3's.

More details to be posted soon.

Woah! Man that was a foul wind that blew through here yesterday! Got the hint of feces from down under! ;) It's all better today, and I saw the Parks Dept. working on adding top soil around some of the tee boxes.

For anyone interested in practicing for the Shootout, there will be a one day event April 15. Reasonable entry fee, free eats, and other goodies. Stay tuned for more info.

Cool. More wind today to blow that awful stench out of here!

Great work on the tee boxes. Thanks Parks Dept.!

Disc Diva is in!! I've heard that Steve & Kathy are stocking up to offer everyone lots of cool stuff. Ladies, here's your chance to get the stuff you need. Designed just for girls! And guys, she's got all the usual stuff for you as well. And for anyone who goes into the creek, she's got a really cool retriever that will fit in your golf bag! Just make sure you throw all the way across the lake because no retriever will help you find discs in the BIG WATER!!!

I'll tell him. He should be at the two round Monthly today. It's going to be a rough one, though. The wind is getting after it today! I can tell from inside the house because I can see the boys' tire swing in the backyard is moving around by itself!! We should see most everyone just trying to lay up today. Even the 15 footers are scary in this kind of wind!

This Just In!!!

Matt Smart has decided to sweeten the pot for our Ice Bowl on Feb. 12. For the winners of the five different divisions, DisCrazy will pay a portion of their entry fee for the DisCrazy Shootout! I believe he mentioned paying half! The Ice Bowl was looking good and this news makes it look even better. Sunday afternoon at 2:00, February 12.

Feb 12 2006, 11:17 AM
Ice Bowl Today!!! 11 people showed up yesterday despite the terrible wind and cold, cold temperature for the weekly handicap. Several of the Albuquerque gang showed up to play and ended up sweeping the top 3 spots. Way to go!! A lot of calls from out-of-towners so there should be a really good turnout. Better weather today says the Accu-weather web page.

The Ice Bowl starts at 2:00pm. Lots of stuff to give away, free mini disc and lunch for everyone! A cooler full of beer while it lasts and soft drinks too!

I've seen the artwork for this year's Shootout discs, and all I can say is, " WOW!!!!!!!" . If you want some of these discs, you had better act quick. These will sell out fast. I will try to post pictures here soon, or I think they might be displayed on Discraft's website.

johnrock
Feb 12 2006, 11:17 PM
Well, it sure was windy today!

But in spite of that, 54 people showed up for our Ice Bowl. It must have been a success because when I got home, there was still stuff in the give-away bag. We ran out of time to give away all of the goodies. And Matt Smart hooked up 5 people with a free entry to the Discrazy Shootout!!!! That's the spirit of the Ice Bowl, give to those that are needy! Way to go Matt!!

And, on top of all the fun, we managed to raise $1,157.00 in cash for the High Plains Food Bank!!!! That is our biggest donation ever in our 11 year Ice Bowl history!!! Our can food donation won't hit our goal of 500 pounds, but I'm thinking we probably got around 275 or 300 pounds.

Thanks to all of the players who came from out-of-town, DeLynn and I can't wait till the DisCrazy Shootout to see everyone again!!

johnrock
Feb 13 2006, 12:09 PM
I forgot to announce who got their entries paid for the Shootout:

Gold Division - Kyle Norrid (Amarillo, TX)
Silver Division - Toney Coley (Albuquerque, NM)
Bronze Division - Tom Brown (Amarillo, TX)
Womens Division - Regina Estrada (Hereford, TX)
Juniors Division - Benjamin Standish (Amarillo, TX)

We tried a different kind of divisional set-up, in keeping with the Olympic theme. It seemed to work pretty well, but it was sad to see some people still trying to work the system to gain an easy win :p Is there any way to discourage BAGGING? Probably not, but we'll keep on discin'.

:(Major tree pruning :(

The park maintenance people have put the saw to all of the trees in the park. It's been several years since there has been this major of a cut, but I guess it'll help in the long run. Lots of new routes opened up, it should play a little easier than last year (unless the wind kicks up again).

April 30 we will set up the baskets in the new area for those who want to see the lay-out for the extra 9 holes for the Shootout. This will be one of our Fifth Sunday Events. Every month that has a Fifth Sunday we will have a Canned Food Drive Tournament to build up our food donation for next year's Ice Bowl. Entry fee will be at least 10 pounds of non-perishable food, with an extra prize for whoever brings the most food that day. We'll play for small prizes (nothing extravagant) and maybe some side bets. This will be a very good oportunity to practice the new holes the week before the DisCrzy Shootout.

SHARP!

Earth, Water, Fire, and Air(?) - Nice! I can't wait to get a set of these. Whether Innova or that other brand, they will be a nice addition to the collection.

I'm getting ready to go out and mark the locations for the extra holes. If anyone needs a map, let me know and I'll fix you up. Only two holes where you have to cross the water, but more water comes into play on 4 other holes. That's six out of nine holes where you have to play a shot that will involve water. :D

Mar 06 2006, 01:16 PM
Good news!

Rain Saturday! I thought we were going to dry up. It's been a long time since we've had some good rain. Maybe it's because we had Baby Rock's first birthday party planned for outside ;). But we got all the outside stuff done before the rain hit!

For the April 30 event, Matt has agreed to give a disc to who brings the most non-perishable food to the course. And you can get in some practice on the extra holes!

johnrock
Mar 11 2006, 12:34 PM
:( Still trimming what's left of our trees :(

The pruning crews have started thinning out the trees that line the creek. Now there won't be much to block any errant shots that head towards the water, so BE CAREFUL!

johnrock
Mar 13 2006, 02:43 PM
Everything is marked for the extra 9 holes. After playing hole #16, head towards the picnic shelter and you will see the first hole (Hole A). All holes will have two tee areas and two pin locations. Early word is all holes short first round, then stretching them out over the next two rounds. Get your birdies in that first round while you can!

johnrock
Mar 17 2006, 11:18 AM
I haven't seen the pruning crews in the last few days. Maybe they're done? Just when I was getting excited about new, tougher Blue Tees, they had to thin out the trees.
The new tees still play tough, especially when the wind gets up. More routes opened up lower, but it's tough to throw high shots on a lot of holes. Accuracy will pay off!

Well we got some rain. Over an inch in my "Andrus Brothers Roofing" rain guage. Thanks Russell! ;) And we got snow also. It looks like about a half of an inch. Should be melting in the next couple of days, cold today warmer for the weekend. This moisture will help the green-up process and will definately help all the farmers and ranchers in this area. Almost One Million acres burned from the wildfires last week That is a big chunk of the Panhandle.

johnrock
Mar 27 2006, 11:46 AM
Aren't there a couple of holes in San Angelo that you have to go over the lake? Was it windy?

The tournament discs should be in any day now. Innova and Discraft. These are really cool fundraiser discs that will be the jewel of anyone's collection! Part of the proceeds will go to a charity, I think I remember Matt saying the Faith City Mission. **GET YOUR ORDER IN EARLY** Already a waiting list for when these discs arrive!!!

Jroc
Mar 27 2006, 12:39 PM
Yeah...5 holes that the lake comes into play (8 for the tournament configuration). But, 3 that you have to throw over a signifigant area of water. I only got to play on Sat...and, the wind wasnt bad. My game was the only thing that was bad :p.

Talked to Gordo Sat and he said something about the kick a__ design of this disc. Already a buzz about it. They should get snatched up really quick. Is there a way to get one through the title disc registration? Or some way for out of towners to have a fair chance at 'em? :D

johnrock
Mar 27 2006, 01:24 PM
Out-of-Towners can contact Matt Smart with DisCrazy ([email protected]) to get on the list. I'm not sure about titledisc, I've never used them and I don't know how they are set up.

Seems like Matt said he was going to sell them as a Disc/Mini package. I can't remember the price.

I really wish that i could have made the tournament this past weekend! I will for sure be at the next one though. Heard it was a good tourney.

I will be expecting the Discraft discs in soon. All four designs are coming on Spectra drivers. There awsome! Super fast driver. The four designs are Earth (green) Water (blue) Fire (red) and Wind (gold). The Wind and Water are posted here but the Fire and Earth arent. We will try to get those up so everyone can check them out. I will be getting in 30 of each. Atleast 20 of them i am going to get rid of in sets of all four. I also will have 30 minis of each design. These will all definitely be collectors!!!
I was only allowed to get 25 Innova discs. The majority of the money on these discs is going to go to Faith City Mission and also some to the pro purse! I am getting 13 Sidewinders and 12 Wraiths. You can see this awesome disc on page 3 of this forum. These will sell for 25 dollars. For what you get and where the money is going its well worth it!

Since there are a limited amount of discs, I am going to hold back half of all the designs to give all are friends from out of town a chance to get one! The Discraft discs will probably go for 20 dollars. A portion of that goes to charity as well.

I am going to auction off 7sets of the supercolor minis for charity. Anyone want to put in a bid?

If at all possible try to let me know about how many people are coming town so i can get an idea on the food. Looking forward to seeing all you guys. Dont forget about the Woodmen tourney here April 15th.

Just a false alarm! The minis arrived yesterday. Full color Ultra Star minis. I already put my money down to get a full set of four discs and four minis (one of each color). Matt said he will let a bunch go early, but he will save some for tournament time. Get your name on the list ASAP!

I've heard that Matt will be giving some of these as prizes at the Woodmen event. Not sure if it's divisional or how, but that is some incentive. Get all the good stuff at the Spring Fling (for a SMALL price) and a chance at some really good looking discs!

Apr 05 2006, 08:28 PM
Got the confirmation today that the Shootout is live on Titledisc.com. You can register online there and also buy a tournament disc as well!
There is only 6 total Innova discs available there. 3 Sidewinders and 3 Wraiths. There are only 10 sets of the Spectra discs available! This is first come first serve! The sales will be monitered the best they can but if an order sneaks in after they are gone it will be refunded promptly.

The turn out is looking good! There has been alot of response to it. Looks like there are going to be players here from 4 different states!!! Hopefully we can up this to a B or possibly A-Tier next year!
Once again if you could give me an idea of how many players might be coming from your town i would appreciate it. If you need to preregister let me know.
Tom Greensburg and Myself are going to try to set up a Friday night Glow Round April 14th. The night before the Woodmen tourney. We are trying to boost the payout at the Shootout and raise money for the charities also.

We might have a band for saturday afternoon. Still working on it. As usual theres going to be lots of giveaways, ctps, ring of fires, ect... Its going to be a good time. Just bring a well rested arm! johnrock
Apr 26 2006, 05:46 PM
Well, they went together fast! And they sure look good out there in the backyard next to the one I got in 1989. The old one has held up much better than I ever thought it would. It's been taken all over this Panhandle of Texas for lots of Disc Golf events. Many, many people have holed out on this piece of history. Now I may have to consider giving it a prominant place in the Rock Yard Course, and use these other two for traveling events. Thank you DGA for making such high quality targets!

I heard from the New Mexico gang. WOW! Sounds like there will be 15 - 20 players from the "Land of Enchantment". I haven't heard a definate yet from Jeff Pope, the defending champion from last year, but I sure hope he can make it. Super smooth player, and a really nice guy also! A GREAT day for golf yesterday! Beautiful weather for the "Ten Pound Round". 11 players showed up with food drive items and golf discs. The premise for this event was to raise food for our Ice Bowl donation next year, and it worked! Each player was supposed to bring at least Ten Pounds of food, with a small prize for who brought the most food weight. Steve Bohan got the top award with 111 pounds of food. Way to go Steve!!! All total, we raised 487 pounds of food for the High Plains Food Bank. That blows away the donation from our last Ice Bowl, and we've still got four more of these "Ten Pound Rounds" to go! Plus, everyone who showed up got to play the layout for the new 9 Holes that we will use for the Shootout this weekend. We played the Short positions and the Longs. Only a few things need to be tweaked for the Tournament, which is a good sign. I think everyone will enjoy these new holes, there is a nice mix of short and long shots, as well as holes where you need smart placement.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for this fun event!

It was a wet day Saturday. I think it kept some of the less hardy golfers indoors /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif We did have 77 players show up to enjoy the 2nd Annual DisCrazy Shootout. 12 of those being Female Disc Golfers, and 2 Junior Girls! They weren't scared of a little moisture. The grass was quite wet when we showed up Saturday morning, but it wasn't raining. The rain held off until we were about Two Thirds of the way through the First round. Then it came down! A LOT! But it didn't get windy, so it wasn't unbearable.

The course was in great shape, thanks everyone who helped to get our facility ready for this weekend. The new holes were fabulous! Three par 4's and Six par 3's. Nothing outrageous, just throw to the right spot, make good approaches, and hit putts for the good scores.

Super awesome trophies!!! I hope we can get a picture posted of these trophies, it will cause some folks to book their flights & rooms now for next year so they can get their bid in on the 2007 hardwear! Thanks Matt Smart & DisCrazy for a great event!

Also thanks goes out to Steve & Kathy Hardyman (Disc-Diva). You guys are the GREATEST!! Thanks for coming and helping with our AM payouts, and for hooking up everyone with anything they need for a wonderful Disc Golf experience. Thanks. I've been foaming at the mouth waiting to play that area with baskets set up. I have thrown a lot of discs in that area using trees and light poles as targets, hoping that some day we'll be able to put baskets there. There is so much quality Disc Golf terrain in that area, we might be able to convince the Parks Dept. to let us make a permanent 18 hole course right next to the existing one.

As far as BAB goes, there should be some players from here show up. Being the weekend right after New Mexico States (and Father's Day), I will be relaxing here at home and probably working on the Rock Yard Course.

GREAT JOB!! Everytime I go to Amarillo, several people step up to help out whenever needed for whatever needed. I ALWAYS love playing next to you guys!! :D

Friday doubles: I wouldnt say I carried anyone, but we did work together to take the win. Making the tie-breaking shot against better players was pretty cool though :D

Gordo is right....those back 9 holes are SWEEEETT! Thats such a scenic part of the park. I hope 18 holes can go back there as well. Some score analysis is going to help determine if any of the tees, pin placements need to be improved...but, it was a great layout. One thing that can help further that along is letters to the Parks department. Write a letter...tell them how much you appriciate their work and how much you enjoy their park. And, letters from out of towners will speak louder. :D More letters of support, more likely baskets get planted and tees pads get poured, bigger and better events are possible for Amarillo. Make it happen!!

A big group from Albuquerque invaded this weekend. Met a lot of cool people!! Hopefully one day we can make it to a NM event and support those folks :)

And, for any of you that dont want to get on the road Father Day weekend, Abilene Wild Hair is the very next weekend (June 24-25). It will be a C-Tier. Come on down!!

Yes, send letters or e-mails to the Parks Dept. They need to hear from other people than me about Disc Golf in Amarillo. Send e-mails to - Cognasi, Pam
E-mail Address(es):
[email protected]

Pam is the Recreation Director and will be able to pass the e-mail along to other department heads. They appreciate hearing from people about the work they do for the City of Amarillo's Park System. Let them know we need more courses in town to handle the masses of players that are starting to utilize the Disc Creek Disc Golf Course.
