I've read the ads, the question is, what's the reality? Is Star really "Grippy Champion?" Or is it slightly harder Pro? The beauty of Champion is that is doesn't taco. It is pretty hard to nick it and thus it lasts a long time. Pro is not great, it still tacos and if you clip something hard is scrapes up pretty quickly. Finally, Champion is much more resistant to warping with time than Pro. So what is the experience with Star?

I have purchased one Star Sidewinder. I've clipped a number of trees with it (nothing head on) and it is unmarked. I've not hit anything direct enough for the disc to taco and I've not hit anything harder than trees and dirt to know how it marks up. What are others seeing with the SB Orcs?

I'm going to be throwing my Star Birds tomorrow.. I have a SB orc, but i havne't thrown it(haven't thrown my SB rocs either)..

My report so far on the plastics seem to be:
Nightshift -Better than everything! differnt from the rest
SB and Star.. The same except for White Star..

My White Start teebird(max weight) Feels like a Really Soft QJLS or something.. IT has that weird QJ or something.. It feels completey differnt than the other color teebirds(which are more like the SB rocs and orcs)

I'll give you a field report tomorrow probably...

I picked up a few SB orcs for Tulsa...second run. So far, I've had very good durabilty with these. They ever seem to deal with rocks better. I normally go through champ plastic with rocks....a direct hit causes a split like DX plastic.

I really like 'em...but not as overstable as my champ orcs...

So whats the difference price wise?

Suggested retail is a $1 difference...though I've heard of some retailers charging a $2 difference. Hell, I've not even SEEN a Star disc yet...

I picked up some StarWinders and while a week is hardly enough time to access durability, even with the number of trees I generally hit, so far they seem to be the equal of champion in that regard. Mine are yellow if that makes a difference to anyone. I also find them to be ever so slightly more to the overstable side than the ChampWinders, which fits the description that Dave has given for StarWinders on his thread. With that factor in mind last Sunday I released a StarWinder on it's first ever flight during a Sunday Dubs. It was to be a hyzer flip air shot but when I released it with the same hyzer angle I usually use for hyzer flip ChampWinders, it started up to flip, changed it's mind and hyzered into the asphalt park road, catching the edge of the lip. Not spiked into the road but a pretty acute angle. No shreds on the lip whatsoever and you had to wiggle it around and catch the light just right to see any scratches. Like I said for me as good so far as Champ.

I got some of the SB Tulsa orcs the first day they came out. It fastly became my primary driver and I don't think I'll have to throw it away till I die. I've hit several tree's with it, a few rocks and I even got slightly drunk and starting chucking it at a brick wall one night. Now I don't have the strongest arm but it's still not even dented...

That's my assesment, can't really argue with the brick wall test....

I still dont see how everybody compares this stuff with the Night Shift blend. I have a few, and dont see it. They do ( IMO ) feel like the KC/CE hybrid plastic with a little more grip. The disc I have that most compares with the Night Shift in feel is a very used 1st Run CE FX, that is Lime green and very rare. It almost feels leathery, and the NS has the same grip and feel as it.

I really dont see why this plastic wasnt offered sooner, or why they will even continue to market Pro plastic ( Well, I know why ) as this stuff feels like the best Pro disc youve ever felt and going back would be pointless. I think that, since they will space out the various mold time releases, eventually this will be the premier plastic in everyones bag. Especially if the durability rumors are true.

I wouldn't want to see what this guy would do when he gets completely drunk!

Don't know 10up so I can't say for sure, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say miss the brick wall. :)

Order up some of those Tie-die Wraiths from Zone-Driven. They look sweet!

So far after a week of fairly heavy use my StarWinder is still doing fine. My experience is that the scratch and scuff predictions are on. Now I just need a taco and a warp opportunity to get the full measure.

Back to square one on the StarWinder "failure test". Dead centered a water birch at about 75 feet today and it only left a light brown mark. No scuff, no ding, no cut, no taco, nada. Unfortunately a couple of holes later the earth desired plastic, and as we all know, when the earth desires plastic that disc is as good as gone. A memorial service for the dear departed yellow StarWinder will be held on hole #12 Yadkinville, NC at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to me in my name. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Is the Star Sidewinder stable or does it flip a little like the Champion version ?

Hard to use the word stable and Sidewinder in the same sentence, but the StarWinder is ever so slightly less understable than it's Champion breathren. Does that make the Champion version a Sidewinder-L? :D Probably not. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
