Hey folks,
Some friends of mine are playing a competition in Kalamazoo/Battle Creek and surrounding areas that we have minis representing the winners of rounds played at local courses. The winners get "special" minis adorned with decorations and pride.
I'm going to update anyone interested on the progression of who is holding the minis for each of the courses on this thread.
The Minis that we play for are as follows:
1. Coldbrook Park, Climax, MI (24 hole minimum)
2. Robert Morris Park, Comstock, MI (18 pro tees)
3. Knollwood Park Kalamazoo, MI
(We affectionately call this course 'Gangsta Park')
4. Oshtemo Township, Kalamazoo, MI (18 Longs)
5. Oshtemo Township, Kalamazoo, MI (18 Short)
6. Meyer Broadway, Three Rivers, MI (18)
7. Beggs Park (Farmers Market), Battle Creek, MI (18)
8. Kimball Pines, Battle Creek, MI (18)
If there are others that I'm forgetting, I'll add later.
Stay tuned for the updates, competition, blogging of rounds, and all the drama of our little tournaments.
This is a great way to practice for tournaments and keep the thrill of competetive play nice and cheap!

Cool thing mini's, I will be in Michigan from Dec.21 thru Jan.2 I will be either in Grand Rapids or Boyne Falls. So where and when is a good mini to play?

I don't know of any minis, but Brewer park south of Grand Rapids is the most likely place to find a group of avid golfers in the winter. At least three of the nines usually have tee pads shoveled and salted. Normally a pretty good crowd any weekend day, and most afternoons if the weather isn't too brutal.

Brewer is probably the best maintained course in GR during winter months. You texas guys will probably have to bring a spotter along...i'm not even going to say it...it's too depressing thinking about texas winters.
Kalamazoo is just 45 minutes south of GR and we have some of the regions most phenomenal courses. What type of disc do you want to play? I'll get you to the course you want.

Ok anxious disc'rs...here's the newest standings:
Mark Stubbs: Knollwood Park (Gangsta Park)
Oshtemo Shorts
Coldbrook Park
Robert Morris
Steve Vincent: Oshtemo Longs
Meyer Broadway
Kimball Pines
Beggs Park
John Mick: No minis
Sean MacKenzie: Madeline Bertrain

All other contestants are without minis...John Mick referenced because he always gives it a go and usually has possession at some point during the day...but not always at the end of the day :D
Stay tuned for updates and new parks added. New parks include: Flip City, Brewer Park (GR), Riverside Park (GR), DeGraft (Muskegan), Holland's newest course, and many more to come!!

Ace Hunting at Gangsta Park: Mini eligable rounds
"we went hunting for birdies the first day of 06 looking for the first ace this year. The contestants were Mark Stubbs, John Mick, Steve Vincent, and Mike Phillips. All AMI's averaging @ 7 under par at this pitch and putt with lots of trees and OB water coming into play on 4 holes due to flooding (usually 2 water holes).
It was a fierce competition from the start with all participants being separated by a mere 3 strokes, one hole could change everything.
Steve Vincent (ace man) has been storming the scene recently, taking the ace challenge to a new level, hitting 3 aces the last 3 weeks of december, pulling ahead of the proud Mark Stubbs, who so recently took the lead from Steve not more than 3 months ago with a super hot streak of 2 aces less than a week apart.
Steve systematically took himself out of the equation after 10 holes while the rest boldly pressed on, tied at -4. The pressures of competition weighed heavily on our atheletes, missing some makeable putts and reaching deep within to come up with some miraculous saves and birds.
It all came down to the feared 13th hole, a 220' tight RHBH Hyzer hole with guardian trees no further than 6 feet apart at the widest. The hole features a tight LH turn at about 80', then straightens out for the remainder. The pin is located on a slight slope that recesses down to the nasty swamp below just 30' behind, always in the mind of the players looking to run a putt.
John Mick, a lefty from the East of the State, fell victim early to the guardians, as well as Steve to a hidden tree behind the pillars of truth. Mike, seeing the first two bend under pressure, puts a shot straight with slight hyzer, but his hopes were dashed when a tree reached out, knocking his chances down to the ground. Mark was the only one to get up and down in 3 and secure a lead that would go unchallenged through the final hole, bringing his mini back to him with a -7 at the Gangsta.
