For xmas I am going to ask for one of these for a practice basket, has anybody used both that wants to give a recommendation on which one is better?

I haven't seen the DB-5, but the Discatcher Sport is nice because it has more chains than other lightweight baskets and gives a pretty true catching experience.
The DB5 also catches well. I think it has 18 chains too. I think it is heavier than the Innova. The lightning may not be smooth to the touch and easy to handle and move like the Innova. The Lightning is nice and heavy for the money. Probably $50 higher than Innova too.
Double check the prices. I think the Lightning is $200 shipped right now.

The Galloway brothers (Nye and Carey) of Albuquerque, New Mexico have put 27 DB5's at their Dad's place in the wild Badlands near Lindrith, NM. The baskets are solid, catch rather well, and seem to be a good deal. This is a remote wilderness area with very few people around so the portable bases don't seem to pose a problem of being stolen. If you ever get the chance to visit, you will never forget this course. A wide variety of shots from launching out over the canyon, to tight wooded areas. there is one hole in the woods that has the basket sitting on top of a rock that is about 10 - 12 feet above the fairway. Talk about an uphill putt!
DeLynn and I are contemplating getting a few for our new place here in Texas. We've only got two and a half acres but that is more than enough to set up baskets for practicing our short game (approach & putt).

I have had the DB-5 for about 6 months now. It was very reasonably priced. And on the surface it appears to be a heavyweight durable basket. It is not very smooth on top and I have damaged alot of putters. I have since sanded the rough spots and it seems to be fine. I was throwing 40' puts at it, and broke one of the welds. This is a cheaply made basket and like anything in life you get what you pay for. I wish I would have purchased the Discatcher Sport.

I love my DisCatcher Sport. Great basket. I've modified it, adding some inner chains, and it rocks. It's been outside in the Colorado weather going on two winters now, and it's holding up really well.
It's also light enough that when I go on the road, I can pack it up and take it with me, no problemo.

Has any one else had similar experiences with the DB 5?

Yeah we modified nine DB-5 baskets and put them on a church course. Six of them had broken welds after just a few months.

They aren't all that great either. I would get the DB-5 and just go over the welds again.

Hey scooter have you noticed this being a problem with the db 5's that you use? I will be using it as a putting basket so it will get extensive use.

We will be making a poratable version of the Titan Pro-24, Maybe something called the Titan protable-24 but they wont be ready for a few more weeks.
We are not sure of the price point but the chians will ALL be hot dipped Galvainzed and with the Exact Chain configuration as the Regular Titans.
We are trying to come in at $250, but we cant afford to skimp on anything to do with cinstruction or catching abillity.
The only real difference in the 2 will be the portable will be made from 1/4" steel but they may also be dipped in a coploymer, which adds about .140 of thickness so they are more like 3/8ths and look really nice in red
How long can you wait?

well it's going to be a xmas gift. sounds like you are making a quality basket, though if I was going to spend $250 i would get a discatcher from my local disc golf shop for about $285....plus i wouldn't have to pay shipping

Dangit Dave ... I just got a Discraft Chainstar today, haven't even recieve the pole for it yet ... I would have loved to have a Titan, they are great! BTW, love that little course you put in at the Baptist Church in St. Charles. Playing there was my first experience with the Titan baskets. Great job on that course.
