Dec 03 2005, 12:42 AM
Tis true...Tanner Flemming has adopted #11 and Moody's D.G.P.S. has adopted #1. Very soon I will try to set a good example by fixing up the grand canyon that we call the #1 tee box .

I noticed that the new running trail behind #18 is made up of some kind of asphalt mix. If the city allows this material for the trail maybe they will allow it for our boxes?

would be nice anything besides gravel would be great.

Dec 06 2005, 09:35 PM
I'll take hole #7 as long as we can work on these on our own time; I say we mark the tees like the tees in Conroe. That engraved stone looks nice on their tees.

Dec 07 2005, 12:37 PM
Ok Joe. You can work on it in your own time. As far as marking the tees, let's focus on the tee surface first. The white posts with tee # on them will work for now.

Could somebody get with whoever and check out Hemmeline's idea. I thought of that quite awhile ago and kinda forgot about it. Maybe Waterloo should look into it. It sounds like a far better idea than an adopt a box program. Seems as though that surface would be very beneficial to the course and players. If the City and or "officials" whoever they may be like us being there so much to help keep the rif raf down, maybe they could see ther way to giving us some decent boxes to play from.

Dec 07 2005, 01:02 PM
The adopt a box program is a great idea! Thanks to Tanner Flemming for coming up with it. Jeff, I talked to the PARD and the concrete company people about the trail material and watched as they poured the "test pour" of pervious concrete. It was an educational demonstration. Now PARD has to get the Citizen review board to okay it. It can be a long process. In the meantime we need to take care of the boxes ourselves. If and when the time comes that we can use that material we will have folks in place and ready to prep the boxes for the pours.

disctance00
Dec 07 2005, 01:07 PM
I wasn't saying it is NOT a good idea, taking care of them ourselves is a great idea I just like the idea of the other surface better in the long run. You didn't respond to what Hemmeline said so I didn't know you knew so much about that surface Dave. Thanx for the enlightenment.

Get with Gordon for the city's objections to concrete pads. He's been to the meetings and can explain to you why they think a 4x12 concrete pad is worse for the environment than all of the 50 foot wide roads around the park.

disctance00
Dec 07 2005, 01:19 PM
I'm sure Gordo will chime in sometime. Hemmeline brings up a good point, if they make a trail out of it then why not tee boxes.

LouMoreno
Dec 07 2005, 01:26 PM
Like Moody said, the piece of trail done was a test. It hasn't been approved yet. If it is approved, we would likely be able to install pervious concrete pads on the Austin courses. Until then, adopt a box. :)

disctance00
Dec 07 2005, 01:51 PM
I guess a better question would be, how long has it been waiting to be approved? It seems the trail has been there awhile. Does the DG community need to light a small fire under the city's hiney to get some forward progress going towards this. I understand as previously stated that it is a long process, how long is this process?

You can kiss my [I'm a potty-mouth!] Mitch, Maybe I wanna know what is going on with the boxes before I made a committment, like how long you expect somebody to take care of a tee box, what kind of surface were supposed to stick with or not, how often you want these boxes fixed. I don't exactly want people calling me saying "hey this box is screwed up and I heard your the one in charge of it could you come and fix this" That's Austin DG for you, ask a couple of questions and get fked with or don't get any answers. I always have thought you're a pretty good guy don't go pissin in my post toasties by talkin chit to me about legitiment questions. You can answer the question or leave it alone, not that hard to do, right Mitch. There is 2 of us here that are intrested in improving a couple of boxes, If you feel a need to act like an [I'm a potty-mouth!] to me then keep on looking for people to fix them up for you.

It's pretty simple , in my eyes!! If you want to improve a tee-box at pease park well then adopt a box or help someone else that has adopted a box!! I have #18 and I expect it to be in far better shape when I am done and furthermore from that point!! If you do not want to participate well then that is your perogative!! Either way , # 18 will be improved as well as a few more that have been adopted!! :D

Dec 08 2005, 11:11 AM
there should still be some guidelines in what is all invovled. like do we want to try and make the boxes look the same or does it not matter. How long does one own the responsibility of said box? and Efrain I will help you with #18

Dec 08 2005, 11:19 AM
sounds good ware!! Dave and Mitch have all the details!! I am going to probably completely re-do #18's box starting with re-framing!! Me and Eric are going to work together initially on 17 and 18 then once we are satisfied we will maintain them individually!! It would be nice if we could get the city or parks dept or somebody to dump a load of base materials for us to work with at the park!!

Dec 08 2005, 11:32 AM
i will take # 2, will get with you guys to see what we can do for materials. is max still the city contact guy for the park? i know alot of people are unhappy with the granite but it was all the pard people were willing to let us use. some thought leaving it alone was better so i'm hesitatant to use it again as it truely is inferior. i do think it works better than the unimproved dug out rock pits we were throwing from. jeff pick a hole and get behind this. you will not get calls to come out and fix a divot. to those of you who have stepped up in the past thanks forever, for those of you who play , complain and keep playing..shut up or step up!

Dec 08 2005, 11:36 AM
Kewl Dan , when you find out about approved materials I would like to find out!! I think we can make crushed granite work if thats our only option!! We might just have to be a little creative!! for help with working with granite read some of this: granite boxes!! (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=455227&Main=363503#Post455227) !!! :D

Dec 08 2005, 11:49 AM
Thanks Dan, and well said about the steppin' up. To any and all: If you wish to adopt a box and want answers to indepth questions or simple ones come and talk to me, Mike, or Mitch. I like talking face to face so as to eliminate misunderstandings that arise from text talk. Also, as previously stated....this thread is to expand the list of interested parties in the adopt a box program. It's purpose is not to air out all of the particulars. Again, face to face is straight up efficient. As many of you come by the park often please talk to me about it in person. I have no secrets, if you know me...that is obvious.

let me know some of yalls ideas, E. I've got 16 so we can use all the same stuff for the last 3 holes and all work together to get it done, then the course will finish in style.

I'll take hole 13.

Jeff, it's anyone's guess as to how long the approval or disapproval of the concrete test will take. Waterloo had been discussing a test box with the city since before I joined the board a year and a half ago and that still hasn't gotten approved so it's not a very fast process.

I recommend sending Gordon an email, gordon@ventbird.com, since he has more communication with the city than anyone else that has responded to you on the message board.
