MDR_3000

the drone was too soft and not overstable enough for me. I did like the grip I got with it though.

jaxx
Dec 01 2005, 07:00 PM
I can't see why anyone would throw a drone on a regular basis. They are so stable that a windy day would be the only time I would throw one. Aren't wasps stable enough?

Wasn't the starfire-L released this year too?

junnila
Dec 01 2005, 07:10 PM
I personally don't throw them anymore but I did for awhile. The reason people really like them is that they are so predictable. It doesn't matter if it is windy or calm they do what they are meant to do...go to the left (RHBH). Even once they are beat in they are still a sweet disc...I might be tempted to put one back in the bag. :D

They don't work for all, but I can throw this disc further than any other disc ever made to date. For the last few months I continue to birdie holes that I have never even been close to parking before.

I have purchased and sold to friends over 50 of these to date. They are also hooked. Just a very controllable and super long driver in my opinion.

Ok they fly far but they don't have any stablizers so it really isn't all that controllable. Also I have thrown quite a few discs that fly farther that were produced in like 2002.

Most new golfers don't care about control, they are pleased when a disc goes 50 feet further even if it is the shule. Every person I have seen throwing the Wraith has a good shot 1/5 of the time. Avenger is a much more controlable "distance driver".

It seems pretty logical that the wraith is the favorite of many of the board members, since many of them AREN'T top pros; i.e. can't throw a teebird/XL/Sabre 400 ft. or an Orc/Spirit/Avenger 450+. For most of the people with an average arm, I think the wraith flies long and straight, and has a predictable finish. Also, I think that for an average arm, the wraith will be the longest, controllable disc for most players.

the_kid
Dec 01 2005, 07:40 PM
Yeah but is Sprague still using it? I don't think so. Also McCoy only used it about 4 times in the 45 holes we played at TX states and it was only for a right to left wind hyzer.

the_kid
Dec 01 2005, 07:59 PM
It flies far but I don't think it is a go to driver or anything. I had a drive with a CFR wraith go 525+ and that is about 50' farther then I drove at worlds but that was only one of many and I couldn't get it to have the same flight consistantly.

Dec 01 2005, 08:10 PM
Actually, Sprague does still throw it. He usually has a pro and a champ in his bag. But, people change up there bag. My question is what does it really matter if the top pro's throw them or not?

I hear alot of people compare the avenger to the teebird but it didn't work for me...

Never!!! I have to agree that the wraith doesn't have much use on the course. They are too unpredictable and for me the extra distance isn't worth it. I would just throw an orc or a teebird. They do, however, go really far if you get a hold of one on a good flight, so I would say they're probably best for distance comps.

Just responding to all...

You left off the QK or I really need new reading glasses. I bet that disc would get two votes if it were included. And isn't the JuJu driver new this year? I could IM Dr. Dye and get a vote for the JuJu.

Coyote as response to Buzzz? No, the Coyote is the response to the Breeze or maybe a very slow response to the Comet, or maybe just a mold that did not fly the way anyone expected, but Innova customers will buy anything new that flies like three other older Discraft discs so they went to production and sold a bunch of them. The Coyote flies like an Eclipse! :D

The Eclipse was the surprise new disc for my vending operation. "You need something more understable than a Coyote? Hmmmm, an Eclipse will start off right there and break in!" I had a few for the girls who like heavy understable and sold them to chuckers.

The Coyote, seriously, did wonders for my game several times last summer. A) It paid for my entry fees at least twice. I sold about 20 for cash and players took about 30 for prizes. B) I can think of at least three times an opponent got an ugly surprise anhyzer from his Coyote on a must-birdie hole. KVN, are you out there? The downhill hole at Streamwood near the school? Yeah, baby! All the way to the swamp! That thing has gliiiiide! :D

Ba-duh-bump!

[Editor's note: KVN actually whupped my bundt that day, but watching that Coyote flip and take off for the swamp made it all worthwhile.]

Dec 02 2005, 01:45 AM
I dig the Avenger.

I was initially very excited about the Z-Tracker, but I haven't figured it out yet. It seems to fly like a slightly beat up Z-Talon. Since I throw Z-Talons and live in Oregon, finding beat up Talons hasn't been a problem yet. ;)

The reason I said it was a response to the Buzzz was simply b/c it's the only thing on the market remotely close to the buzzz right now.

Right now, in the war of midranges, Discraft is killing Innova. Putters are a tie, and drivers are hands down going to Innova.

Sprague pimps the hell out of the Wraiths, and ive seen him throw it a ton of times. The second best shot ive ever seen was thrown by him, he almost had the sickest ace I wouldve ever seen. It was this 420+ ft. hole over a baseball diamond backstop, left to right anny the whole way and it hit the pole. Ridiculous. Then i believed he aced a 400+ ft hole at the OK Open with it.

I"ve thrown most of the discs on the list except the newest discraft(banger, tracker) and although THe only disc out of the bunch I carry is an Avenger(X for rollers and hyzerflip) I actually voted for the sidewinder.

The avenger is great, but to me it seems like many other discs i've thrown. I am a teebird thrower and a new xavenger orZavenger feels and throws similar(FOR ME). The sidewinder was a great disc when i've thrown them. I hyzerflipped one through a 400foot tight shoot once in practice and was amazed how little fade it had. I've also seen newer throws throw these pretty well.

ALthough i don't carry a sidewinder I voted for it because I think it's way more versatile for all players than a wraith or avenger.

I totally agree, except I would change the Roc to a Wasp, only for people who play rough terrain or heavily wooded courses and need a consistently overstable mid range. Wraith, unquestionably. Awesome grip, glide, and what a monster skip on the end.

The other day I'm kinda fubarred on hole 4 out here at Zboaz. I'm about 300 or so out from the basket to the left of the fairway near the shule. The only hole to throw thru is low and tight. It's a gentle downhill slope all the way to the basket, so I pull out the dayglow burn out your retinas orange 174 proline Wraith, and busted out a hovercraft (I'm talking 3/4 an inch off the ground) that ended up getting about 30 ft. past the basket. For advanced golfers who like to throw long, the wraith is definitly the best new disc. But the sidewinder has done a huge amount for recreational and beginners around the country. Agreed Matt

My experience with the wraith is that I can throw it just as far as my beasts, orcs, teebirds in my practice stacks... For shots on the course I found that the wraith was fairly inconsistant from throw to throw... sometimes it would be stable and then sometimes it would just curl up and cry when wind came along...

I have seen the same reaction from others I play with, they just dont like it initially and still have to "figure it out"

It's a new Gateway driver that is a faster slightly more overstable version of the sabre. The 1st ones weren't all that great IMO but the newer ones are supposed to rock. :D

I've already beat Josh repeatedly, and he still owes me $20 for the last time I did it (which I'll never see, since apparently Josh isn't into honoring his word).

But using a #1 driver?? Ouch, man

I just went outside and tested the Wraith against my Predator, Crush, Venom and Avenger. The Wraith was not longer than any of the other discs.

The Flash was longest for me last summer when I did that test, but there is no arguing with hysteria. I just stocked up on Wraiths and rode the wave to the beach. :D

Yeah, I don't throw any of the new discs that came out in 05'. So I guess I will vote for the Midnight Z Buzz's only becasue they are close to my 1st run Buzz's. Did the Soft Challenger come out in 05' or early 04? I like those too.

Innova East has just released a very limited number of dyed Star Wraiths as a fundraiser for the 2006 Pro Worlds in Augusta. Only 500 of these discs will be available with an additional 100 reserved for Epicenter Disc Golf to sell locally in the Augusta area. They will retail for $18.99. Check out ZoneDriven.com to pick up a few for Christmas.

Special thanks to J-Bird Matthes for dying these discs for us at no charge and of course Innova, who made this model available to us.

How are you getting that #? So you say it takes 8 minutes for light to get around the earth? I think the 8 minutes is the time it takes light to get from the sun to the earth.

what if the trip involved going over mt. Everest? Wouldn't it be farther?

ce

my_hero
Dec 09 2005, 08:11 PM
Colin,

Well, Everest is roughly 5.5 miles tall. Also, knowing that a(a)+b(b)=c(c) is a formula that finds the slope distance of a triangle which in this case equals 7.778 miles. We'd have to double that b/c it would be 7.778 miles up the slope, now we have to go down the slope.

So, assuming all of that is correct, your trip around the poles just became 15.556 miles longer, or 24,875.556 miles. Hopefully you knew that we would have to go around the poles b/c Everest ain't on the equator! :D

Quit asking silly questions. There's already a thread known as "Ask Hawk" for those. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :p

A Tibet rumor is being told of an ancient Tibetan who threw a DevilHawk over Mt Everest and aced a Chainstar!

Ha Ha ... You must have picked that rumor up on FOX. Have you been watching O'Rielly, or what (everyone knows he full of [email protected]#$)? The DevilHawk is a black project ... You'll never find out who developed, designed and manufactures it ... or you wouldn't be here talking about it.
And it flies nothing like the Chickenhawk ... those things are so understable they only fly in circles. And I would say you got a bad one or something, but there are no bad Devilhawks.
