The time has come...
I am proud to announce the dates for the 2006 Texas 7 Charity Tour. In honor of Lance Armstrong's 7th Tour de France win we will be holding 7 events this year.
These are the dates:
Event 1: March 4th
Event 2: May 27th
Event 3: June 24th
Event 4: July 22nd
Event 5: August 5th
Event 6: August 26th
Final: September 23-24
It's up to everyone now to guess the locations. To those people in the know (I know who you are) please no hints. :D
A Texas 7 INNcolor disc to the first correct location in order.
I am currently working on a new website, membership details and everything else which should not be far off.
Lots more news soon.
Thanks

I have no idea which venues will be used, but since Chris will be at the helm of each one, my guess is that turnout will be WAY up for all of them!
Hopefully one or all of Lewisville, Carrollton, and Cedar Hill are included. If Lewisville and Carrollton are included, that's 4/7 of the way to an I-35 Showdown. Round Rock would make it 5...I wonder if that's one of the 7.

It is with a heavy heart that I type this. This morning at 8:05 my aunt passed away from cancer. She was diagnosed several years back with breast cancer and she kept this hidden from the family. It came to light several months back when she could no longer maintain this secret in her life. She collapsed in her home and during a doctor check it was found that the cancer had spread throughut her body.
My aunt was less than 10 years older than I am and in a lot of ways, my mother helped to raise her as well as my brothers and sisters and myself. There was a time when she was closer to being a sister than an aunt.
I have not seen her for several years and the last time I did see her, she took me out bar hopping and dancing. She was a lot of fun, but over the years had become a recluse.
I type this to ask those of you that are interested in becoming involved, please consider donating to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Lance is an excellent example that a cancer can be beat. With the research going on today and the donations that the Texas 10 (7) and you have given, cancers once thought unbeatable are being conquered.
If you are not sure about donating to the LAF then play one of the future Texas 7 events and your play helps to develop donations dollars and you get to play a bit of disc golf.
Later.

Sorry to hear Jerry.
If people do want to donate to the LAF directly that is good as well. Simply make the check out to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and send it to me and I will take care of it all for you.
The Texas 10/7 Tours and Disc Golfers that support my events are proud in the effort and support we can offer the LAF. Every little bit helps. Cancer can be fought and beaten.
Our thoughts are with you and your family Jerry.

BTW Chris, the Finals this last month were very good. (sorry my game in the second round wasn't)
It was a little long waitinig for the awards (but that seems normal for most tournaments) But everything else was real cool.
You can't ask for a better HQ. I will look forward to playing again there in SEPTEMBER.
I should also be there for
Waco <- don't want to miss again this year
Tyler <- Look forward to playing again
Lewisville <- so close to my house I can't miss it
I might not be able to play Cedar Hill, that is the weekend normally held for the Alex Clark Memorial. That is a fundraiser for the Carrollton Open, so I kinda have to be there.
As far as Wimberly and Austin, I will try to play both depending on my schedule and other tournaments.

What time zone where you in? I can't remember Sunday but I turned around 132 Am's on Saturday like this. From the 1st (not last) card coming in I was talking on the microphone handing out trophies in exactly 60 minutes! Considering the last card came in about 45 minutes after the first due to 2 divisions having 1st place ties, splitting ties, adding in bonuses, splitting bonuses etc I think the Texas 10 Team did very well.
Sunday should have been even quicker. Either that or you obviously were not drinking enough. :D

Not sure what you mean Mitch? I am looking at the chance of using the new Manor course. We would extend the course to make 27 holes. I have spoken to the people concerned and it's just a matter of timing we hope. I had wanted to use Kyle but still no news on that and from what I have been told little chance of making more holes.
I am excited about going to Cedar Hill. I am still yet to see the course myself. From all reports Brian L did a great job.
Lewisville is a personal favourite. Good course, great people and a great city.
Waco. I really love going to Waco but I want to play myself. The Beast is just awesome.
Tyler. Looking forward to getting there next weekend to play and check things out. As Jerry sold me, its all about support. Thanks.
Circle R. I know these courses better than most and love the Meadows. Nice and close to the Austin crowd and lots of fun camping. No hurricanes this year hopefully.
Live Oak. What can I say other than awesome. In 2006 look for a bigger, fancier and much much more of an event. Will the pool be open?

the park is not open to the public yet because it is not finished. hopefully construction of the park will be finished by feb/mar/apr. the course will be done around the same time, definately by opening day.
there will be cement teepads (long and short), tee signs (by joel kelly), pre-fab benches, lots of trees, lots of creeks, lots of nature, lots of elevation change, and lots of disc golf. the course will be par 64 (and yes, that number will actually mean something on this disc golf course). There will be 9 par 3's, 8 par 4's, and one par 5. Distances ranging from 200 to almost 1000 feet. here are some quick estimates:
1. 620 feet
2. 350
3. 310
4. 550
5. 200
6. 250
7. 985
8. 850
9. 300
10. 540
11. 270
12. 600
13. 290
14. 190
15. 590
16. 380
17. 625
18. 650
so give or take atleast 8,300 feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i will definately let everyone know when the course is open and ready to kick your assssssssssssssssssss.

Mike,
Thanks for the info.
Sounds like it's going to be a great course. More than that, it sounds like it's going to be a great park (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks/east_metro.asp), too:
The 273-acre East Metropolitan Park is a multiple-use recreational area with recreational facilities financed with voter-approved park bonds to include: two multi-use ball fields, three youth baseball fields, one adult baseball field, two soccer fields, one covered basketball court, age-appropriate playscapes, concessions facilities, restrooms, hiking trails, and three ponds that will support catch-n-release fishing programs.
East Metropolitan Park will include a swimming pool, a first for the Travis County Parks Department. The home building company D.R. Horton will build the swimming pool and bathhouse; Travis County will provide the parkland and build the site improvements; and the YMCA of Austin is expected to operate and maintain the pool based on annual subscription fees. The pool will include a wading area with water toys and a 4-lane lap pool.
Nothing better than being able to take a cold swim after a hot round of disc golf.

Gday Everyone,
What a year 2005 turned out to be. The best thing to turn out from it was the huge success of the Texas 10 Final in Live Oak. 202 players from all over Texas, Oklahoma and beyond enjoyed a great event. A huge thanks to everyone involved in the final, it was a great time. No one walked away $30,000 richer but we still have 2006.
2006 promises to be a big year for many reasons. Please find following an overview of a few things to come. With everything going on it is always a push to make it all come together financially. Please consider sponsoring the Texas 7 Charity Tour in 2006 and become a member now. From just $25 you can ensure the success of Texas 7 in 2006.

From the big cities to remote courses in the Texas Valley the Tour de Disc Golf will try to reach as many people as possible. The Thunder will be stocked with all the latest discs and winter custom clothing.

2006 Tour de Disc Golf
How is this for a little road trip45 days, 35 courses, 4 states.
Kicking off in Lewisville on January 21st I will tow the Thunder all over Texas, Oklahoma and even into Arkansas and Louisiana finishing off at the 1st Texas 7 event in Waco. A fun 45 days filled with mini events, including singles, doubles, glow, under lights and everything in between.
From the big cities to remote courses in the Texas Valley the Tour de Disc Golf will try to reach as many people as possible. The Thunder will be stocked with all the latest discs and winter custom clothing.
The new website and "Blog/Travelog" will be announced later tomorrow.
2006 Lewisville Open
Lake Park in Lewisville is a great course supported by a great city and local players. On Saturday January 21st I will be holding a 2 round event (non-sanctioned) with both rounds at the Lake Park Course. More details will come soon so keep that date free. Amateurs will receive a players package and I will attempt to add some money to the Pros.

In following with the PDGA entry fee guidelines fees the Texas 7 fees will be reduced a little this year for both the first 6 events and then the final. As with last year the ladies playing the final will have a 50% trophy only option in the Pro division. Texas 7 is a PDGA supporter and of course Women in Disc Golf. The first 6 events will also feature a $10 trophy only division for the Rec Ladies (FW3). Hopefully this will help attract even more ladies to try the game.
The information has been sent to Titledisc and on Sunday will update Disc Golf Tourist so everyone can enter their favorite Texas 7 event early.
Here are the pricings that will be used for the first 6 tour events.
MPO $40
MPM $40
MPG $40
FPO $40
MA1 $30
MA2 $30
MA3 $20
FW1 $25
FW2 $25
FW3 $10
These include the LAF and Tour Bonus amounts. The only addition will be an optional $2 ace pot.
Thanks

Chris, what was your thinking on the $2 instead of a $5 ace pot?
I personally don't believe in high ace pots. I think it should be a fun little bonus and not a big part of the entry fee. One of the original outlines of Texas 10 was to be affordable to all types of players especially new people that have never played tournaments before. After 5 years the statistics show that that work out very well.
I also have the same feeling with Friday night type doubles. I think it is crazy to pay almost half of the tournament entry fee to play 1 round of social doubles.
If you want a HUGE hole-in-one just come to the Texas 7 Final in September. I am feeling lucky about this years ace. :D

I'm looking forward to playing 2 or 3 of the events and definately plan on attending the Finale. The ace I hit on hole 20 during the Sat Ams round was very exciting and was glad that I was the only one that day! $$ :D

Just got off the phone with the TX State Cooridantor and it was determined in the best interest of all the Texas Am's going to Worlds in Tulsa to move the date of the Texas 10 in Lewisville. It was due to be the week before Am Worlds but it seems many Texas players will use that weekend to travel to Tulsa.
The new date (subject to Lewisville City approval) is now Saturday, July 8th.
I will have this changed on my website and the soon to be Titledisc entries soon.
Thanks

That's a great change...I was really hoping to make the Lewisville event, and now it's much more likely. I think the turnout will really benefit.
You do mean the TX7 don't you :D
We always enjoy playing Lake Lewisville and now with the change in the date, we may now be able to make it.

Q. Did the Advanced (MA1) and Advanced Master (MM1) play the same course at the same time?
The PDGA is updating the ratings and we want to make sure it is correct.

Next weekend in Waco!!!!!!!!!!!
With the way the weather has been down south and up North in Texas for the past few weekends, this should be a nice change of pace on 2 of the greatest courses in TX.
Don't be scared of the Beast - If Atwood can shoot less than 10 over on it, anyone can :D

Thanks Adam. Just found the only computer connection in this part of the country. Which country? I am not to sure? I am now in MacAllen right on the Mexican border. I am going down to the border later to help (or disrupt) international relations and launch a Pro Wraith over the Rio Grande. Who's phone number should I write on the disc?
I hope to get a photo of the international throw that I will post later in the week. If I am not online by the end of the weekend I never made it back to the US.

Gday Everyone,
It is now only a few days away until the first event of the Texas 10/7 calendar. We will be in Waco this Saturday (March 4th) to kick things off to what looks like being a great year. I am talking to a couple of new sponsors that will make a big difference this year.
As most of you know I have been on the road with the Innova Tour de Disc Golf for the last 41 days, while covering over 3700 miles and running 33 events in 4 states. I am tuned and ready for a big start to the year.
My uncle from Australia will be in Waco for the day, so come out and listen to me speak my native tongue with another Aussie.
Here are a few details for everyone on the format, times etc that I have been asked about. Seems like many new players will be also in Waco for this one, along with all the usual suspects from DFW, Austin and beyond.
Friday Doubles:

Tony is prepping for baseball. Already? :D
Have you already given up on the yellowjacks and the cougars?
Astros rule the central and just to stay on topic, they would dominate every Texas 7 event if they so desired. :p

Spring training games began yesterday...
Tech is 2 years away. They have 1 senior and 1 junior on the roster, the kids are good, but need experience. UH blew it at UTEP, and probably needs to beat Memphis twice (this weekend and during the tourney).
And, no one got that much better in the Central, so the Cards will still win. Hopefully this year, it'll be a race so they can play meaningful September games (September being the month of this years TX7 Final...) and not forget what the term "driving in runs" means.

Mar 03 2006, 02:06 PM
Really late advertising, but the LSDGA will be sponsoring 4 paid entries to TWC (Pro, Adv, Am, and Rec) at the TX-7 opener in Waco. The winner will be decided by a CTP type contest, so all of the female competitors have a shot at the prize.

On the road to Waco in a few minutes. Have to stop and play the other Temple course first on the way.
Over 70 paid entries so far but I don't have the names yet. Will try to post a players list late tonight
Are you coming up Vargas?
Nelle 18131
Mar 03 2006, 05:57 PM
I wasnt planning on it at all but now that there is a free entry to the TWC it sparked my interest.
Wouldnt be fun to go all the way to Waco to play in a one person division though.

You like those CFR Wraiths, Adam?
I have a Pro Worlds stampped CFR Wraith (mint and unthrown) that I'll trade you --- make me an offer.
Chris wanted me to remind everyone to take the M L King exit and come west on that road to Cameron East instead of taking University Parks. They have that road closed off for construction and it is a detour nightmare down there.

Props to Tony for holding a solid game. Adam and I were right on his toes, and then Tony decided to get a 3 on CE (Cameron East) 18, which looks more like a righty hole. His crazy forehand roller went halfway, and a beautiful flex shot, which landed only 5 feet away from the hole. Tony took a one-shot lead then, and never let go. Adam and I didn't really challenge him from there, trading way too many over-par holes. I gave Tony 8 strokes on holes 1-6, having a severe case of 3-putt-itus. After starting on hole 8, I would normally feel pretty good about being +7 with 1-7 to go since 4 of those are birdie holes. Adam and I even allowed Edward to sneak into 2nd. This guy shot a 60 on the Beast playing it blindly. THAT's some great golf as well.
Now back to practicing putting and counting the minutes until the Pecan Park Open and a couple others before the Tyler stop of the Texas Farewell Tour. Thanks so much Chris for all you do. There was some great plastic available, and things were run incredibly smoothly.

Chris, Had a great time and set two personal records! First round one was my best ever tournament round, one down. And I think round two is my personal worst ever ! I'm happy to be used by others for their own encourgement (hey at least I didn't shoot as bad as that guy in Waco in '06 :o). Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks guys. Not bad for starting both rounds with a circle 5, huh? :)
Definitely a fun day. Got to play with a bunch of good guys, some I knew, some I didn't. It was cool to see a bunch of new faces playing. And perfect weather, although I think the weather bubble worked too well--it dried up the river!
Thanks to Laura, Joey, and the rest who helped on Saturday.
And Chris, thanks again for all you do for this sport.

Tony did put on a clinic, (lefty throwing a right hand forehand roller 1 billion ft) Adam is a puttin' machine, met a lot of new people, looking forward to playing the beast again. Maybe next time I'll be able to tame her. I had a great time. Thanks to Chris and all of his support staff, this was a great event. See yall in Wimberly, Austin, and SA.
