Stupid me left my printouts to the courses I wanted to play in Arkansas this last weekend.
Well, after a little driving around (and finally stopping to ask direction to the biggest park in town) I found Searcy (not as bad as I thought it would be)
On my way back to Texas, I was going to play Alma and Ft. Smith.
I of could not remember the name of the park so i started to drive around Alma. When driving on 64, I saw a basket. But When trying to find a parking lot or even a tee sign AND I noticed that the baskets were old (and the course is new from what I remembered) I figured it was not the course I was looking for.
I drove on to Ft. Smith and found Ben Geren park pretty quick, (the guy at the gas station knew where the disc golf course was)
So anyways, what is the story on those baskets off 64 in Alma??? I did not count the number of baskets, but don't think it was even 9 holes. I didn't see any sort of tee signs or even where to park.

further investigation on the North Ark thread found that the 9 holes I saw were for the school next door.
When was this course installed and is it marked in any way.

I usually play Burns park 2 or 3 times a year. This year I played the Red course this summer, I was going to play the blue course last weekend but was already an hour behind schedule and skipped playing.
Jasper is about 70 miles from where my family reunion is every year. (it is about 90 miles from Burns Park and I have made that side trip before too)
This year I drove 45 miles to play the new course in Searcy, stopping at a few Antique stores on the way there and back.

I to did the same thing. On my way moving across country I stopped by in Ft. Smith not having directions I found a park. Not sure it is the same that you found I saw 3 Innova baskets that were old and alittle rusty.

theres actually two courses in ft. smith. we have one off grand ave. tillus park, its a nine basket pitch n putt, been there for years. within the last 4 to 5 months sebastian county installed a 18 hole course out at ben geren. there is another course planned for ben geren although it might take a year or two for funds to come around. if things go well hopefully we will have duvall help out with the course design. the county is going to be building a pond in the park and the plan is to have the pond designed around the course. :D

I like Tilles park, not a bad 9 hole course by any means.
On the other hand, the layout I played at Ben Geren park was a pitch and putt course. (only 2 of the holes were in the long possition Sunday) If it were not so windy, I would have shot better than the 6 down I did shoot.

Horseshoe Canyon is one of the best courses ever, everyone should play it at least once in their lifetime.

Deinitely must play HORSESHOE CANYON! Not yelling at you. The place is so spectacular lower case letters fail to do it the justice it deserves.
My wife and I will be in the DFW area during the Christmas Holiday. Hoping to get her out to Z-Boaz, we've played Veteran's nearly every trip down. Any other suggestions?

Any one that is traveling around and is going to be in the northwest corner of Arkansas needs to take the time to play HORSESHOE CANYON. It is by no means a pitch & putt course. Bring plenty of refreshments & snacks(you'll need them) and about 1/2 a day(as you'll want to play it again & again) to enjoy it. This is extream disc golf, kinda like hiking & throwing plastic. It's a hump, but well worth the time. It also has horses, cows, goats, pigs & other farm animals running around. This place needs to be seen in person, pictures or discriptions don't do it justice. If you know your going to be in the area give us a heads up at the northwest Arkansas disc golf thread & some one will hook you up :D.
You won't be disappointed ;).

Well it turns out it was 130 miles from where we spend Thanksgiving. however I made the drive on Friday over to Horseshoe Canyon.
WOW, you are not kidding. It was WELL worth the 260 mile round day trip to play there.
We were pointed to the rock down from the store, but could not find #1 on the longs. The broken tee sign for #1 looked like it said #7, so we started off by playing #10 on the short course.
So after looking around and finding all the short holes, we asked some other disc golfers where #1 for the Yellow long course was.
Wow, the short course was fun, but the long course was amazing.
I was so sore Saturday, still sore on Sunday.
Favorate drive for the day was on #12 (i think) The hole looked like it was behind a house size rock. My shot looked good but looked like it might have it the rock or flown past the basket.
After looking everywhere for the disc, i finally climbed on top of the goat poop rock and found my disc sitting on top :o Missed the down hill putt bad
I think it was the next hole or #14 was up on top of another rock. My drive was going right for the hole, then it the tree in front of the rock. From my lie I could only see the top of the basket on the rock 40ft up. BANG I hit chains and it dropped in.
Hole #15 was great, long anhyzer that I almost hit some rock climbers.
#16 I almost made the bird (and almost hit a rock climbers car)
#18 I got spit on my first and muligan putt for a 2, I was 40ft to the right of the basket by the creek.
There were 145 rock climbers there on Friday according to the owner. He told me they were going to do more for disc golf in the next year. (add a pro shop, get cards and maps made up, fix up the course)
Next year for Thanksgiving, I might leave a day early and spend the night in one of the cabins. It would be worth it.

And another one experiences Horseshoe. :D
It can never be described properly, it is something that a player must see in person. ;)
