I am in the process of organizing a whirlwind disc golf tour around Texas, Oklahoma and even into Arkansas and Louisiana and would like peoples help in setting the schedule and any other pieces of advice.
44 days31 courseslots of fun.
If you are a club TD, course pro and would like me to come to your town or course please let me know and I will look at the schedule and details. If you have received an email from me about this and have not replied please let me know. Many locations are confirmed so don't miss out.
The tour will link PDGA and Texas 10/7 events that I already have on my schedule to be at.
The stops at each of the courses would basically be fun one round mini events with trophies and giveaways. Some would be singles, some doubles and many would be glow events.
We are also working on some form of fun bonus for the location that attracts the most people or raises the most for the charity etc. The Disc Golf Thunder will be there with all the latest discs, merchandise and Tour de Disc Golf logo merchandise. I am also thinking if people would like to join me for little mini tours they are very welcome.
Part proceeds will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation in association with the Disc Golf Charity Marathon.
Please have a look over the schedule and let me know your thoughts. This is on short notice I know, but I think we can pull it off. The key is once the schedule is set is to get the word out to the players in each town. I have a color poster ready to go once we confirm a few more locations. I would also need places to stay and park the Thunder.
Thanks for the support and I look forward to hearing you all.
Yours in Flight,
Chris Himing

Chris - you might want to check with Bryan James on your 1/22/5 date...Jimmy Porter is currently under construction and 7 of the holes are unplayable at this time.
I think Bryan said the construction would be completed "quickly", but we are talking about city crews
Hope to catch you there if the course allows it

A few updates and changes to the dates and locations.
Thanks for the help everyone.
If you belong to one of these locations please get in touch with me asap. Over the weekend I will be printing posters to send out to every location along with a few other surprises.
This will be fun I promise. From the north of Oklahoma to the Valley in Texas I am sure to experience a lot.

Still need to confirm start time with Jake. Likely to be a sunset round ending in night golf.
The B-tier Doubles actually just means I am doing the doubles prior to the B-tier event on that weekend. The club is running the B-tier I am just doing doubles. Doubles will be just like Friday night doubles normally are.
I am looking forward to seeing Shawshank in Huntsville. Hopefully a good turnout that day. Looks like a crowd from Tyler and Houston will be there.
Not a bad 45 day road trip. :D

Efrain that is the point in some locations. Some locations want me there on their mini days, others don't, no worries.
As I have said many times this is a "proposed" schedule. I have not heard back from Vinnie or anyone from RR so that is not confirmed. If RR don't want me I will find another location, no worries, but I need to know soon.
As for Austin I am not sure yet. I need to speak to Gordon some more and work with the Waterloo club and see what the best option is.

I am an active and current RR member , chris!! wed is our league night with handicaps, ace pots, and added club fund every league etc. etc. !! What will the benefit be for the club and its members? just curious , what is your proposal and how would you envision this working!! also there is no plastic payout at RR for league!!! :DI am not trying to bash anything here , merely informing you as to our happenings!!!

Again as I have said before some courses and clubs have asked me to be there on club nights, some have not. That is there choice. Either way is good for me.
My schedule is getting busier by the day but I look forward to hearing from Vinnie or whoever and find out one way or the other about RR. If things don't fit into the schedule I think we will all survive.
Happy Thanksgiving.

I am very happy to announce that the Tour de Disc Golf has been sponsored by Innova Champion Discs and will now we called the Innova Tour de Disc Golf.
Thanks to Innovas support this little road trip of events will be a huge success and expose disc golf to even more people in more towns.
During the 45 days we will be giving away twenty four (24) Innova DISCatcher Traveler targets to players and clubs. Some will be given out to one of the players at the event, others raffled, and a few given to local clubs. More details on this soon.

In addition to the 24 Traveler Targets given away every player entering will receive:

.
The stops at each of the courses will basically be fun one round mini events with trophies and giveaways. Some will be singles, some doubles and many would be glow events.

Just added one more city and course. I will be heading to Beeville, TX on Saturday Feb 25th. It will be a morning event as that afternoon and evening I will be in Corpus Christi. 1 day, 2 cities, 3 events, that will be a big day.
Currently speaking with THE Jeff Ash and working on plans for Arkansas. Can someone tell me how the road is from Tulsa to the Horseshoe Mountain course? Since I will be towing the 20 foot disc trailer I am unsure if I can make it over mountains (no mountains in TX).
On Monday I will make known the models and availability of the INNcolor discs. Very cool.

On a sad note - one of my coworkers passed away yesterday at the age of 33. She was diagnosed with cancer just three years ago. Services are Friday afternoon. Just wanted to share that since we all play some tournaments that support the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Donations to the LAF or any similar organization are the best start to finding help and a cure!!!

33. That's how old my wife is, and how old I was a year ago. Man...man.
I agree, donations to the LAF and similar organizations are important to general cancer research funding as a whole. Think about how far our society has come, domestically and globally, in the last 50 years or so. In 1955 if you were diagnosed with cancer it was probably a death certificate 90% of the time. These days, with the advances in modern medicine and early detection, a significant number of people not only survive, but BEAT cancer. (yes, I'm talking out of my element...I don't have statistics, only relationships with people who have lived it.)
Without research, we'd still be living in the 50's. And without funding, research would be in the 50's as well.
Sorry to ramble. It's a deeply personal subject.
In addition to the LAF, I'd also suggest the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer research. I have no problem saying I'm fond of breasts (stay with me here.) My grandmother fed my mother with hers, my mother fed me with hers, my wife fed our daughter with hers. My daughter.
Both of these groups (and others) fund cancer research as a whole. Donations to them are donations to all cancer research.
Ultimately, scientists do the grunt work. We play our part by contributing financially to ensure that work continues.
If you can, donate some $$$. A lot of us don't have much, so do what you can. Every contribution counts...don't let our electoral system fool you. Take that 10% that's going 'elsewhere' and toss it over here this week.
Some day we WILL find a cure.
ozdisc

Yes Adam this tour is benefiting the LAF. Please note the yellow ring on the event logo. It is a symbol of unity, strength and recognizes the work of the LAF.
Unfortuneately it sometimes takes the passing of loved ones, friends or co-workers for us to sit up and remember just how cancer affects us all.
A quote from Lance Armstrong: "I realize that these shared stories are a truly powerful weapon in the battle against cancer. Our power in the fight against cancer lies in our ability to unite through common experiences and shared hope. When we share our stories, we learn that we are not alone in the fight. When we share our stories, our experiences take on a deeper meaning; we channel energy, knowledge, inspiration and strength to the millions of people living with cancer. Thats why I share my story."
I will post a list of statistics etc tomorrow and what we can all do to help, but for now everyone please take a moment in this happy time of year and remember those past.

I just got home from the bar and I am, well you know :D. Paul, Adam, Chris, Ect. I just want to say that you have touched me once agian and I hope that my prayer for a cure will be answerd in my lifetime, one way or another.
The first time I was really touched/had a real thaught about cancer was the Zigen Bock 10 Finals, at the first $10,000 Hole in one at Lake Lewisville I think. Chris Had his speach, If you know someone with cancer please stand up. If you have a realative with cancer please stand up. If you have had a frien DIE of cancer please stand up. if a famliy member has died of cancer please stand UP. By the end of the speach everyone was standing. It was a EYE opener for me. I wasnt even playing in the Tourney, but was ther with my Best Friend Kyle Wilkes, and his mom had just passed away with Breast Cancer. I saw the way that, that speach had affected Mr, Wilkes, and I was touched as well. Everyone has been affected by this evil disease in one way or another. Lets everyone do your part and support the LAF. I am touched once agian, and I dont express myself like this very often.
Sorry for the long post, but Thank You Chris.

This is a repost from the Texas 7 thread on 11/30 of this year, but I thought I would carry it over after the other stories offered:
It is with a heavy heart that I type this. This morning at 8:05 my aunt passed away from cancer. She was diagnosed several years back with breast cancer and she kept this hidden from the family. It came to light several months back when she could no longer maintain this secret in her life. She collapsed in her home and during a doctor check it was found that the cancer had spread throughout her body.
My aunt was less than 10 years older than I am and in a lot of ways, my mother helped to raise her as well as my brothers and sisters and myself. There was a time when she was closer to being a sister than an aunt.
I have not seen her for several years and the last time I did see her, she took me out bar hopping and dancing. She was a lot of fun, but over the years had become a recluse.
I type this to ask those of you that are interested in becoming involved, please consider donating to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Lance is an excellent example that a cancer can be beat. With the research going on today and the donations that the Texas 10 (7) and you have given, cancers once thought unbeatable are being conquered.
If you are not sure about donating to the LAF then play one of the future Texas 7 events and your play helps to develop donations dollars and you get to play a bit of disc golf.

This year I wanted to play in the TX 10 tour, I haven't played many tournaments untill this year. The second tourny in Tyler my wife was in the hospital after having one of her breast removed at the age of 43. She is doing OK with the cancer but still has a couple of operations to go through. Two months after my wife got her news, her father found out that he had a large ammount of cancer in his lungs at age 68, so bad that the tretment would kill him. We just got back from Houston where he lives. This was his last Christmas, dinner on Saturday night was the last time he will see all of his kids and grand kids together. I do not wish this on anyone but cancer is growing at a fast pace at this time. To watch a loved one die slowly and can do nothing but pray for person puts a new perspective on life and what it is all about.
Play Disc Golf; Fight Cancer!!!
I don't have a big pile of money but if I put Play;Fight stickers on what I drive, play in any tournaments when I can and purchase what I can from Chris H, I know he can pool all that money together to make a difference, in the name of disc golf.
Chris you are a blessing, thank you.

Howdy Chris,
Looking forward to your visit to L-town.
I hear you've serviced Thunder for the trip, have you serviced the tow-vehicle?
Be sure and pack your bags for some wind. Seems that the breeze has been rather strong lately.
I think you will be very pleased with the improvements to our course. Larry and Bo built a huge deck for the cliff shot tee box, then added a rebuilt church pew to rest your bones from the long climb. We've also placed some church pews around the course, just to add some class to an already PREMIERE course.

The day has finally come. The Innova Tour de Disc Golf is under way. I am hitting the road in a few minutes on a 45 day journey across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. In that time I will run over 40 events at around 35 courses. Who even knows how many miles will be traveled? How many times will I eat at Outback, how many vegemite sandwiches will be eaten? From the big cities to the well lets just say smaller towns, the Thunder is coming.
The Disc Golf Thunder is fully loaded with all the latest discs and merchandise including 5 different INNcolor designs on the new Star Wraiths. I also have INNcolor mini discs and both long and short sleeve t-shirts with the tour logo. Add to this all the Play Disc Golf - Fight Cancer and Texas 7 merchandise and there is something for everyone.
Dont forget the 24 Innova Traveler Targets will be given away during the tour.
Keep an eye on all the news, updates and photos from the tour at my new website and news blog. Click on this link and follow the tour. Also check out the schedule and find the location closest to you.
Tour Blog, News and Pics (http://www.discgolfpromotions.com/b2evo/blogs/index.php?blog=2&cat=1)
Or you can simply go to www.discgolfpromotions.com (http://www.discgolfpromotions.com) and follow the links.
The tour will finish up in Waco for the first event on the 2006 Texas 7 Charity Tour on March 4th. Signup for Waco early as you all know the turnouts in Waco are huge.
To conclude here is a favorite quote of mineIts not the destination that matters, its the journey.
Let the road trip begin.

I just read through the whole thread, and was unable to find out one key piece of information... what time are the players meetings? :D

Jan 20 2006, 04:39 PM
G'day from Lewisville. Mid 70's and breezy. The very full Thunder cruised well. Even got to play a round at the Lake.
Ryan is it the Lewisville Open you want the players meeting time for? It is 9am I think. If you mean all the "Tour de DG" events then 15 minutes before the scheduled times. See you at 9am tomorrow.
Back later tonight once I get to Casa de Murphy.

Hey can anyone tell me if there is a players package and if you still get one if you sign up in the morning? Thanks in advance!
ozdisc
Jan 21 2006, 12:17 AM
There is no players pack for the Lewisville Open in the morning. Entry fees are reduced with 100% payout.
For the "Tour de Disc Golf" events there is a Innova mini, sticker and magnet to all Am's. Not bad for a $10 entry.
See everyone in the morning.
Thanks

Hey, just a reminder. The Tour De Disc Golf is heading to Tyler's own Lindsey Park this Satruday, February 11th. Get this one on your schedule and come join us. For those of you that are interested a BRAND NEW COURSE has come to Tyler. UT Tyler, with assistance from the Rose City Disc Club, has installed the first of 9 new baskets on the UT campus. If you are interested in coming to the Tour De Disc Golf, get here early and meet us for a quick mini on the UT campus. This will give you a chance to play a virgin course. Admittedly, it is a pretty easy course, but this just means a course record needs to be set! With two tees per basket you can get a full 18 holes in. After a warm up round, head to Lindsey Park for the 2:00 Tour De Disc Golf mini!
.....and if that is not enough, the Shawshank course in Huntsville, has been opened up on Sunday for a mini in the morning with doubles in the afternoon. Hope to see everyone in east Tecas this weekend for a little Tour De Disc Golf!!

Had a fun time at MacGregor then drove to the coast to stay with Jake on Galveston Island. It almost feels, smells and sounds like home here. We are only 2 streets from the ocean. I love that sound and smell.
Spending the day sightseeing around the island tomorrow before running the Hitchcock event.
Then its off to Victoria for a weekend of playing.

The Aussie and the rolling Thunder put up sail and headed west early this morning.
Thanks again Chris for bringing the tour to our little country course.
Pro/Am random draw doubles was a cool format, pairing up the most experienced with the least experienced. Several first timers had a great initial exposer to mini/competitive play. And the old schoolers appeared to have fun working with thier less experienced counteerparts (in the dark)... What a Blast! I encourage everyone to participate in this momentus event.
Good luck on the remaining portion of the tour Chris. The Island welcome mat is always out. Come back anytime.

After a cold and wet weekend playing in Victoria I am headed south to the Texas Valley in a few minutes. Note I was playing this weekend and not working. Now that I am working tonight the forecast is fine and sunny. They are forecasting 80's tomorrow.
Please check my remaining schedule for the rest of the tour below.
Sounds like big turnouts in Ingleside on Thursday night then Beeville and Corpus on Sunday. Live Oak next Sunday will be fun in the afternoon then a blast at night.
I will likely not have computer access in the valley so if anyone needs anything please just call and leave a message. I will be back in the Corpus area on Thursday.
Thanks
Chris

A great day of golf yesterday in Harlingen. We played 2 rounds, 1 daylight and wind and the other in the dark with no wind. By the way it was 80 degrees and beautiful. :D
Off to Ingleside, Corpus and Live Oak tomorrow for a busy few days.
Thanks
Chris

Just to let everyone know Temple's Lions Park is ready to host the "Tour De Disc Golf" on Thursday night. It's a 9 hole course but we will have temp baskets set up to make it 18.
Just down the road from Waco and up the road a little from Austin.
Hope to see a few out of towners there.
Temple Lions Park
From I-35 take exit 297, (Midway Drive) in Temple.
Go east on Midway Drive and follow to first right on Shallow Ford Road.
Right on Shallow Ford road and follow 2.2 miles to Park entrance on right.
(Do not turn right until park entrance)
After entering park take first left and follow to parking lots near pool and pavilion.
Hole 1 across street from pavilion.
