I am going to Waller Tx off of HWY 290. I asked mapquest for directions to McDade park and it sent me all the way down to houston and back up 45, making it a 1hr and 30 min drive. I was looking on the map and saw that FM 1488 cuts across all the way to 45 just south of conroe. Is this a better way to get there, or should I drive all the way south to Houston and back north again to Conroe? Please help if you have a quicker way to get there or if there are any other parks that are closer and as nice as McDade. I had just heard a lot of nice thing about McDade being really nice.

Have you played some of the other courses in town? So that you have a frame of reference? Go check out Crosspoint Church, Nottingham, TC Jester, Mason Park, Shadow Ranch, Seabrook Park, Dodson Lake, Burke-Crenshaw Park, Clute Park, Cedarbrook Elementary, Community Park, Clinton Park, or Glenshire Park.
Then go play McDade Park in Conroe and you'll surely notice the difference.
McDade Park could be called the jewel of the region. Playing in beautiful park that I’m told was once a residential area, this course plays over perhaps the nicest setting in the entire Houston area; there are many different species of trees, some that bud in the summer. Most of the holes are par threes but there are a few tweeners that feel like par fours. There’s not much elevation change, but the course does border a water hazard that can come into play. The course makes up for its lack of length with some tight wooded shots, and the balance between lefty/righty and open and woods at this course are just about perfect. The HUGE disc golf bulletin board at the entrance to the course is just about the nicest I've ever seen, and the tee signs and the little signs pointing the way to the next tee are also really well done at this course.
Even within the last twelve months, there has been a huge amount of work that continues to improve this course. The concrete tee pads at McDade Park are SWEET! I was also super impressed with the new boardwalk bridges on holes 4 and 15. The craftmanship on these bridges is outstanding - can I get whoever built these to add a deck to my house? A couple of holes, such as 5 and 11, look they've been thinned out a bit, too.
The McDade Park course will never feature world class length or challenge, but with these new tee pads and bridges, it continues to be the nicest course in the entire Houston area.

DFW has elevation. The Houstonplex has very little (Mozola @ Buffalo Bayou is the one exception). Going in expecting DFW terrain, the entire Houston DG scene might be a little underwhelming.
McDade is fun with a little challenge. Try Mozola or Bass for a real challenge.
I agree with Jeff, it is the nicest kept course in "town". I still think those bridges need either toll booths or people living under them. That's how nice they are!

Dont take me the wrong way I really liked a lot of aspects of this park some really fun and challenging holes. I like the tee's signs in particular. I think it might be a little more senic during the summer when everything is in bloom. But that is the only course that I have played in the area. So I did not have anything to compare it to in the area. But I personally like the courses in the DFW area better because there are so many Champion courses in close range to my house.
