It's official!! I just got back from a meeting at City Hall with the Park Commission members. The course in Thompson park is now officially named "Disc Creek Disc Golf Course". It was approved unanimously. I gave about a 15 minute presentation about Disc Golf (what it is, how long it's been around, where we play, economic impact, etc...) and answered the Commission member's questions. They all seemed to be quite interested. There was a motion to accept the name, it was seconded, and now it's official! More good stuff is on the way for Disc Golf in Amarillo.

Tip-top of TEXAS!! Much more North and you get into "No Man's Land" Oklahoma panhandle.
Thanks, James. Also part of the presentation was to get another 18 holes installed next to the "Disc Creek" course. With two nice, challenging courses side by side, we will be able to handle many more players for the big events. The Commission members seemed to be impressed that people would travel here just for a Disc Golf tournament. I passed around a PDGA rule book, as well as a Disc Golf World News issue from last year, and was pretty surprised at their willingness to see how far this could be taken.
Good things are in the works!

Oops, I forgot to explain the need for an official name. The Parks Dept. is going to construct a large sign to be installed near one of the entrances to the park on 24th St. They wanted to put "Amarillo Disc Golf Course" on the sign, but I suggested that we use a different name so that in the future when we have several courses in town people know which one is being talked about. We even discussed using "Amarillo Disc Golf Complex" on the sign in case the plans for the other course in Thompson Park become reality.

Bag Tag Tournament this Sunday! Anyone with a "Fly'n Circle" bag tag is in. No cost! Cash prizes in four different divisions. Tom Grensberg is returning his profit from the tags to everyone who wants to play. I'm not real sure how he'll split up the divisions, but it should be a really fun event. I believe the weatherman is calling for freezing drizzle, wind, and who knows what else, so get out the extreme gear! If anyone needs more info, let me know and I'll hook you up with Tom's number.
