Threw one of these yesterday. I threw it backhand like I do all the rest of my drivers. Here's what I noticed: The disc is very fast and gets out there in a hurry. Unfortunately it's very overstable and just dies. I tried tuning it with the instructions provided and got no change. I'd say this thing has the stability of a monster or predator. Overall it is not totally useless, but I'd rather throw just about anything else. I was able to get about 350' max off it.

Personally I think the disc is a turd BUT I have seen people use the over hand spiral shot on some holes that showed me it is not completly useless. So if you dont have a strong high hyzer forehand shot then it could definatly be used with the overhand spiral in place of that. :D:confused:.

I've never tried to throw an epic backhand.. I have seen many people use them for tomahawks, thumbers and even sidearm shots. From that I have seen though - the disc seems to be kind of unpredictable. I don't think they are evenly balanced, which is why they are so good at flipping and turning.

Is this disc out to the public? Who makes it?

Aerobie. And it is indeed a turd. Doesn't even make a good smoker's tray.

Good for overhand shots....it spirals and then pans out like a backhand throw.

I've always thought of the epic as the lotto playin man's disc. There isn't really any gray area with this disc. It either performs EXACTLY as you expected, or, well, 'NOT' as you expected. 'NOT' being the imperative word there. as in, it's NOT in the fairway, it's NOT in the nice short schule on the edge of the fairway, and it's NOT going to be found.

I like the fact that the epic can be taco'd and just bend back into shape. It's one step above the floppie flyer :D

Every time I threw it it did the same thing. It'd fly flat for about 300' and then hyzer hard left. It is very overstable. I'll probably mess around with it some more.

Gripping the narrow edge of the rim, I tossed it as hard as I could RHBH, and it wobbled, not like a noodle arm wobble but more or less girated off its axis. I then threw the longest tomahawk of my life with it, and it flipped over twice.

I would rather play a round of golf with a CD instead of an Epic.

CDs have holes in them, thus they'll never be pdga approved (under the current rules)

Seen this guy , throw one of those. Looked like he started off with a hook thumber. The disc rotated , counter clock and held hyzer for about 350.

Trippy !!!!! :o

I was throwing one for a while, and my dad still does. I have noticed that it is pretty unpredictable. We both usually throw the Epic sidearm, and can often get a good roll off of it.

Whenever I see one I get angry, I have a strong animosity towards that disc, at REI they have two golf discs the arrow and the epic. Let's play disk golf, or is it frolf.

There's only one use I've ever seen for this disc and that's to throw a tomahawk that spirals, and then comes out of it and glides. Moreover, there's only one hole I've ever seen in ten years of disc golf and 125+ courses that would require this kind of throw off the tee. There's a hole at Killens Pond State Park in Delaware that's about 400 feet long, but with a giant group of small trees/bushes about 30-35 feet high directly in front of the tee.

I've thrown one a few times now and I have to say... I guess it's cool, some of the little "trick shots" you can do with it, but it isn't really innovative in any way... I'd rather just work on my rollers and anny's, I'll use those more than any spiraling tomahawk glide out hyzer shots :p

the only trick shot I was able to do with the epic was the disappearing $14 shot...you know the one that takes $14 dollars out of your wallet and after you throw it, comes to rest in your basement next to all of those other discs like the optimizer, arrow, QuarterK, any proD disc, and those discs you get with an in-step basket... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
