i saw a disc on ebay that advertised the Innova special blend plastic as a new line of discs that will be produced in that plastic, called Star Line. They compare it to the ten time KC stuff. Any truth to this?

As opposed to Gateway?
"So you want the H Illusion and the E Element-X and the H Element with an S,SS,M,F Wizard in the S plastic with an H and E Wizard?"
Yeah, that's not confusing at all.

Yes, Gateway has a very simple selection of discs. May I have overstable, more overstable, or ridiculously overstable :D?

Not to high jack this thread (Star plastic is great, I love my sb rocs and orcs), but you should really throw more gateway before judging. They have a full range of plastic. Wizards, elements, element X's, sabre's, hybrids, are all stable to understable discs. Also gateway uses polymers that have a quality of being able to break down easily without losing shape or quality of flight. This basically allows you to "tune" your discs to the stability of your liking. 2 of my most understable drivers are my S illusion and my E spirit. Broken in and go a mile. That said if you crave overstable Gateway supplies like no one else.

OK Mr. Smarty pants ... how many discs, and how many plastics have been sold under the name of Aviar????? Big Bead, Small Bead, No Bead ... how many plastics, KC pro, pro, champ, dx, JK Aviar X soft...
At least all the wizards are the same mold. :p
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread

Hey Scooter , welcome to my world.
Don't worry about those folks who have not won.

gateway was more confusing when the same disc was called a different name depending on the plastic.

chief/wizard same disc...different plastic
demon/scout same disc...different plastic
then the apache and warrior was the name of the sabre and blaze(not necessarily in that order) in different plastics.
then gateway went to the iron/wood system...which got confusing for a while(unless you were sponsered by gateway or threw it a lot)
at least now gateway just does the H,S,E, and SS(wizard only) to name their discs.

Yeah, I agree with you there...thats exactly why David stream lined the naming.
That was before Scooters time on the team though.
I think naming the plastic "Star" instead of "Special Blend" is a good decision. Special Blend sounds too much like Special Edition. Considering the new Pro line plastic is the closest to Special Edition and the old Pro line plastic is closest to Champion plastic, giving the new plastic a unique name seems like it will be the least confusing.
Gateway has three plastics "S", "H", and "E". Whats so confusing?
Unless you count "Clear" Evolution and "Nike" Evolution, plus the four stiffnesses the Wizards come in, plus any mixes of plastic like the "S" Hybrids that have some "H" mixed in or those powder blue "H/S" Wizards or "H/E" Speed Demons or proto Wizards that are all chalky.
For example, I have a new, opaque "E" Spirit that's a lot like an older opaque "E" Sabre that I had, but neither of them are like the two newer transluscent and clear "E" Sabres I have now.

Lets clear some things up. All "S" Wizards are still the same plastic, just different firmnesses.
Next, the Evolution line is pretty back and forth...there is the stuff David has always used and then there is the stuff he samples. (IE Nike, Clear Evolution etc.)

So, Gateway people....
Having "nike" plastic bring to light the rumors around the basket that the multibillion corperation Nike is getting into the disc game? How true is that rumor...(feel free to slam and tell me to check another thread...I"m feeling vulnerable right now)

As of now, thats just the nick name given to it b/c David gets the plastic from a Nike office in the St. Louis area.

then gateway went to the iron/wood system...which got confusing for a while(unless you were sponsered by gateway or threw it a lot)
the iron/wood system was an idea i brought to Dave M. back when i was still doing freelance stuff for gateway. unfortunately, it wasn't done quite in the way i would have done it... e.g. promote the disc model in large letters and have the golf club comparison as small/secondary. the other side of that is that i disagreed with the comparisons that were used. i had pushed for the sabre to be a 5-wood/3-iron. taking what is likely the easiest to throw driver in the world and putting the most difficult to hit golf club in the world on it just never sat well with me. the number of dots on the flight shape part were also supposed to correspond to the relative distance of the disc. unfortunately, this was only evident if you had two or more gateway discs to look at.
as for the plastics debate this has been an issue for decades... especially if you ask the old schoolers. talking to pro grandmasters about the eraser aviars, cream dreams, pink ones, the shattering weld-line aviars, etc. you will get a feel for it right off the bat. i remember reading on Stokely's site that plastic consistency/changes was the reason he switched to discraft ~1995.
people are spoiled nowadays. back in the day you needed to buy 25-50 if you wanted to have a several year supply but nowadays you can get by with more like 10.
personally, i dig the feel of the newer special blend discs (my favorite discs were the 9x KC drivers) but i have not yet thrown any to see how they compare. i just know people are unhappy if they can't drill a tree point blank throwing 100% power and not have the disc look/fly exactly like it did before that. being that all of my straight drivers are dx/d, i look at it like this: if there's a good chance i'm going to drill that tree point blank... maybe i should choose another shot :D

I love my SB/Starline Orcs. They can take the hits and come right back and fly like they are supposed to. Im glad to see Innova jump on this and take it further in regard to TeeBirds especially. The rest...er....majority of their product line will follow suit and that 'suits' me just fine. Maybe we are spoiled but that is the way it is in sports. IE: If wood shafted golf clubs were in fact better then graphite....they wouldnt be making them in graphite now would they? :) ;)
One thing I have to say about Discraft is they at least have the stability ratings right on the majority of their discs. This helped me last year when I got back into DG. But now that I have figured out what does what.....I have a complete Innova bag.
But back to the original question........how does it compare to the 10X stuff? I wish I had some 10X stuff to really compare it to....but all I have is some 9X stuff and they are somewhat similar. I feel the SB/Starline stuff to be even 'grippier' than the 9X stuff I have.

thing is... that the 2 longest throws of all time were done with dx plastic and the next 5 longest throws were done with elite pro/x plastic.
granted, the durability on those plastics vs. champ/z sucks... but they also fly farther. problem is, we aren't endurance racing discs across baja, we are throwing them often with the intent of making them go straight and/or far.
i am excited for sb plastic assuming it flies better than current champ/z stuff. if it is superior, then i would like to see much more of it on the market. if its flight characteristics are still dwarfed by the flight characteristics of cheaper plastics, then i don't really care :) hrm, i guess this could be my formal request for a dx wraith/starfire :P
as for comparing it to 10x stuff, there were 3 blends of 10x that varied a lot, ones that were nearly identical to 9x, ones that were like 30% ce, 70% 9x plastic, and ones that were like 70% ce, 30% 9x so it would kind of be tough to make a comparison

I love this plastic. Wish I could have got my hands on a ROC without having to pay 50$ on ebay. I got me an Orc from the Twisted Flyers club and love this thing. Can't wait to see the TeeBird. It's one of my favorite discs. When is this teebird going to be released in the Star plastic? I'd love to see the Wraith in the Star as well.
I throw almost all Innova, only disc I don't' throw that's innova is the Wizard :P Sorry Innova but the Wizard is a far superior putter.
I was very surprised to find the same thing. I know have several x and pro discs where before I had only z. Love me them trees....
