But if you are with me up in the land of reading and writing, you know it is starting to get cold. I have searched just about everywhere I can think of for some DG related cold weather apparel, there was some talk of DisConcepts having good stuff and I have patiently awaited the return of the site, but time is now too short. I really don't care about shoes, I have that covered, pants don't really matter either, I don't even wear them half the time. But a jacket, nice, warm, lightweight and not too loose. If anybody knows a good one, let me know.

Check out Columbia's Titanium series. Nice stuff. I have a windproof jacket that will definitely benefit me during the layering months.

Oct 30 2005, 05:27 PM
I know of the perfect jacket. It actually makes me throw better. I put it on yesterday and shot 18 down on the front nine. I then took it off and finished even. I wasn't even throwing my Devilhawk. Unfortunately, I live down south in Georgia so I can't read the label or even write well enough to tell you what kind it is or where to get one. I would send you mine, but it might drop below 70 degrees next week. Burr!
have fun in the snow.

I am sure Dr. Rick Voakes is a southerner who cannot only read and write but also has general intellect that would put yours to shame.
And a game that would also probably make you look miserable.

And also I am sure other "dumb hicks" from the South like Climo and Schweb will be just thrilled to see your post.

I don't know if you flatlanders down there in DSM have these, but if you can find a ski/snowboard shop they'll have a wide variety of brands of coats to choose from; probably more than most department stores. Good ski/snowboard jackets also normally higher quality and allow for a wide range of movement and better breathability than what you find at department stores. It will probably be better to try them on rather than ordering online to get the fit you want.

Active Endeavors in Clive might have some coats worth looking into. There used to be a place in Valley Junction, but I don't know if it's still there or not. You can always plan a trip up to Minneapolis and see what REI has, too.

Check out Mountain Hardware (http://www.mountainhardwear.com/)
These are made for climbing but work well for what you're looking for too. They are warm and made to fit snug but they also stretch where you need them to. I do alot of climbing, mostly in the winter and highly recommend these. There are many to choose from.
What I have is one like the Alchemy (http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Product.aspx?top=1&prod=814&cat=7&viewAll=False) jacket. A bit pricey but they are well worth the money. Warm, somehwhat weather proof, stretchy, and many pockets to hold whatever you need to stash.

Even though that was prolly the worst 1st post ever im going to help you out.

1st~~Learn not to be a complete dill hole.
2nd~~Go to a sporting goods store and pick yourself up some Cold Gear Under Armor (top and bottom)
3rd~~Find some flannel sleeping pants to wear under your jeans or sweats or running pants or whatever pants you wear.
4th~~Get some Smartwool socks, seal skins and GORTEX shoes
5th~~wear a T shirt then a long sleeve shirt and a vest over your Under Armor
6th~~Find some kick AS$ Mittenz (ask SonderMullet he might be able to help you find some) and buy lots of handwarmers
7th~~Find a nice warm hat and bring lots of towel to the course.

Either that or stay in your basement all winter and throw drives into a golf net and putt back and forth on your 2 Chainstars like I do :D

well, I wasn't really aware that people on message boards were so soft skinned. It was supposed to be a joke, although I guess it is a little harder to get sarcasm across in writing. I apologize if my post offended anyone, I don't really feel that way, I was just jealous of people that are probably going to be able to play well into december, whereas I am already having to bundle up if I want to get out.

I wouldn't have written a comment about "reading and writing" if I actually believed no one in the south could read it... that would be a pretty lame joke. But again, I apologize to anyone I may have offended and thank the people that gave answers to the original question.

Ok, there is some advice there that I have to disagree with. First off, the key to staying warm in the cold is DON'T WEAR ANY COTTON. Nothing. Once cotton is wet, it will not keep you warm at all, it will actually make you colder.

UnderArmor, or any quality base layer made of polypro is where you start. On top of that, wear a light fleece. On top of that, get a "soft shell" jacket. These are as warm as fleece and almost as water and wind resistent as goretex. They are very light, stretchy and comfortable. You will get what you pay for, but that being said, I own the cheapest softshell that you can find and it is the best piece of gear that I own. They are the ONLY jacket that I would recomment for a winter disc golfer (in the North or the South.)

EMS Soft Shells (http://www.ems.com/navigation/subcategory.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374302847065&fromTemplate=navigation%2Fsubcategory.jsp&bmUID=1130776831976)
EMS is a great store with a very relaxed 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you ever have ANY problems, they will return your product for store credit or a refund with a receipt.

9th~~Watch the movie "Deliverance" and practice your hog calls. Your misinformed stereotypical attitude will undoubtedly make you a very popular guy down here. :D

No problem, man. There are just so many jerks these days that sometimes wit and sarcasm (the kind intended more as amusement rather than degrading) are hard to detect.

Remember that on message boards/e-mail emotions, gestures, expressions are non-existing, making it hard to discern between someone being silly or just being a rectal thermometer recepticle.

I forgot the most useful advice: Move to south Texas! And don't squeel like a pig, it scares our women.

Lots of us Canadians play all Winter and usually we just wear our beer coats. Cold is much of a factor when you are wearing a good old fashioned Canadian beer coat.

First, lets start this with a smile :D so everyone knows I'm having fun. The fact is that the average Southern Redneck would do fine in most Northern cities. I've lived in Houston, Boston and New York. I met more Rednecks in the outfield at Fenway (can you say bouncing blow up dolls) and... well pretty much in any seat in Yankee Stadium, than I've met anywhere in Houston. You don't have to live in the South to be an idgit. Just ask Walt Whitman or any of the numerous great writers that have come out of the South.

"Stupid is as stupid does" Forrest Gump

p.s It's 80 degrees with a nice breeze out. Think I'll get in a round tonight. Ahhhhhh, nothing like livin' in the South rednecks and all.

BTW - you guys are too easy to forgive. Saying something rude and then labling it a joke does not make it O.K. I remember back in Jr. High when all the rage was the latest black joke. They were just jokes after all... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

A joke is a joke. If someone were'nt ribbing you for being black, they will for being white, mexican, republican, short, tall, skinny, fat, etc.

Was it Rodney Carrington that said, he was short but he didn't care; if he were tall he'd probably be stupid.
