I have heard some good stories about the infield parties there.
Also the same thing about Indy. Need to know a deciding factor.

Would you rather hang out with beer-drinking rednecks, or Pompous fags, midgets, stinky horse trainers, and compulsive gamblers?

beer drinkin rednecks is my choice, always makes me feel right at home. :D

See I am probably the opposite. I Hate rednecks who get stupid-drunk. They are the most difficult people in the world. And since I am normaly in a different state-of-mind...that dosent work out. :D

Indy 500.....hands down. I have been to both in my life time and the Indy 500 was the better of the two parties.
Theres no substitute for the roar of the engines running around that track. You dont get the feel for it when you watch it on tv. And you get more bang for your buck. The derby has what.....one major race? The other races are horses youve never heard of and prolly never will again. The main race lasts what.......2-3 mins? While the Indy race lasts 3-4 hours.

right on the mark there wayne... although in the heart of Indiana, the lack of rednecks at the 500 is amazing...
Can you bring your own cooler/beverages into the Kentucky Derby? Do they have the wild infield at the Derby with free Black Crows (2005) concert and booobies galore? Carb day? the parade? the Pacers in the playoffs (not this year)? Brookside DG course? - -- All of the above shout 500, no doubt about it.
Just be careful, if you are fortunate enough to park in the HiPo parking lot, watch where you enjoy the post-race festivities. "I'm never too out to....."

i would go to the...... to choose one is acceptance of one and rejection of the other. it is cruel to inflict rejection. all things are living molecular structures with feelings. it is very important be be aware of and respect the feelings of everything around us. therefore we should make no choices in life, simply live and exist in acceptance and allow fate to guide us. now that you are aware of passive reaction, live it and life will bring you harmony. peacefrog and donovan

Hunter S. Thompson had a great story in "The Great Shark Hunt" about him barging in on the Kentucky Derby with no tickets or press passes, but with plenty of drugs.
Of course, he gets complete access to all but one room at the Derby. This one room he can't get into is like the Governors suite or something, and Hunter is just convinced that, "That's where the action is."
So, he is sitting in some VIP room with his friend. And they are drinking mint juleps. And Hunter says one of my favorite lines ever, he is sitting there drinking his drink watching the people walk by and he says something like...
"A man in a hat asked me a question about a horse race. And I told him. 'What would I want to watch a horse race for? I am hear to watch the real animals.'"
Just thought you might want to know... :D

Thong, I had no idea the Churchill Downs infield was this much of a freaking party!!! After I read this article (http://sports.espn.go.com/travel/news/story?id=2415737&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab6pos1) I could see how the Derby is at even par with Indy 500. I can see how it would be a tuff choice between the two.
I'm putting the Derby on my list of "must see" Sporting Events.
My current Sporting event wish list:
World Series -
SuperBowl -
World Cup Soccer -
Kentucky Derby -
Indy 500 - Done it!!
Daytona -
Golf Major - Done it!!
Old School you need to add a couple to your list
The Final Four is a GREAT one
& the Masters has to be EPIC

World Cup Soccer is a MUST. I got to go to a few games when the World Cup was here in Dallas. It was CRAZY. Before the Holland Brazil quarter final match, the fans were on both sides of the street chanting, and then they would all come together, drink a beer, and then go back to there chants. Priceless

For some reason attending the Final Four is not very important to me, I would rather attend a BCS bowl game.
The Masters is a TUFF TUFF ticket to get...If I had the chance to go I would do whatever it takes...I've heard that people pass their tix down from generation to generation.
Go to the Derby, Thong, turn 3 is where all the action is!!!

I've known all this man that is why it is a tough choice. I've had other people tell me crazy stories from the infield.

One thing about the 500 that overrides the Derby would be the race lasts longer :Ddon't forget your am/fm radio, it doubles as ear plugs when those carts are hawling #$*&$! past you.
And whatever you do, try not to look at all the "flashing" going on at/during/before/after the 500 :D
I'm down for the DERBY....I'm luvs the ponies,

Apr 27 2006, 03:53 PM
