Many of the players that use Gateway tell me that the e blaze is a must have, especially for windy days.
What does it compare too? I've had monsters, xtremes, and currently throw a predator. Is it similar to any of these?
I believe I started these conversations with a thread where I was trying to decide whether I wanted to replace my xtreme with a monster.
I haven't thrown an Xtreme so I can't comment on that plus I've only thrown S and H Blazes. Apparently the newer E Blazes are more overstable than what I've thrown.
I find the S Blaze noticeably slower than the Monster or Predator. It's still faster than a midrange, but not as fast as most fairway drivers. I find that while it is overstable brand new, it's not as crazy overstable as the discs you mentioned and I think it's easier to control. You do have to throw it high and hard to get distance out of it, too. It's not a finesse disc like most midranges, you have to put some power behind it to get it to fly well. Once they get broken in they have a bit of turn, but still quite a bit of fade so you know it's coming back, especally since you're probably throwing it higher anyway. I think that's why people say it's so predictable.
For windy situations, I'll substitute a Blaze for a longer midrange shot where I'd normally use an Element-X (or Roc or Wasp or Buzz) if it weren't windy. You won't get nearly the distance you would out of a Predator and it won't fly well low to the ground like a Predator or Monster.
Feel wise it has a shorter wing and is much domier than a Pred or Monster. It's definitely an older-school type design.
If I had to compare it to another disc I'd say it's like a less overstable Whippit. If you look at Blake's flight chart you'll notice that the Whippit and Blaze are really the only two overstable discs in the 3.5 range, which makes it fairly unique. I'd also say that the S Blaze is a bit less overstable than the ratings he gives but I've always found the Blaze to be less overstable than what many people say so take that into account. I will say that when it fades, it fades hard. It's one of those discs that really fades left rather than left and forward. That means that if you throw it a bit lower it will skip well, too.

Its controlable like a midrange but has the stability to hold up in the wind while getting more distance than Demons/Whippets/Drones....I think more people would like them if they tried them...out of the entire lineup, I think the Blaze could have the most impact on peoples game if they gave it a chance.

im throwing a clear E blaze and i love it! i used to carry a banshee and a firebird in my bag and it was always a toss up on what to throw... especially on a shorter throw... but now i have the blaze and i keep the firebird in for longer stuff... i think the blaze is as overstable as a firebird/banshee/gator... but faster than the gator and slower than the banshee and firebird...
That is everything I wanted to know about the blaze; thanks!
