Just a quick Update,

Pleasure Island, Host Course for the 1994 and 1995 PDGA Worlds, was struck hard by Hurricane Rita. We only have our original course still active on the Island, Berry's Treasure. I went out to see it today for the first time. We did not lose a single basket. We have 2 other area courses and ALL baskets are fine. The problem is the trees. I would say we lost half the trees on the course. We have 2 major wooded areas, Holes 1-2 and holes 11-12-13.... In those areas 75% of the trees will be gone. We also have some strategic trees that make the holes what they are, they are gone or damages severly. We will get PI back up and running as soon as it is possible. It is just a sad day for sure. Let me see, an area prone to storms and now they put in a "Tornado Magnet".....makes sense!

Go online and email the port arthur city council. We have told them that hundreds of players come through each summer on road trips but you don't see "crowds" of players out there on a day to day basis. Please, please take the time and send them an email (do not be rude please). Let them know the history they are loosing. The "rv" park is really only going to be temporary housing for the works at the valero refinary expansion. So its not going to be "tourists" staying there but laborers for the expansion. You can also email Valero and let them know of the bad publicity they are recieving and refineries are very sensetive to their pr.Thanks for your help, we need it badly.

My favorite is the logic that putting in an RV park equals lower unemployment rates. Uh, ok.

This is a link to an article coming out in tommorrows Beaumont Enterprise dealing with the rv park situation. Please take the time to read it and post a comment. We have to get public perception in our favor if we have any chance of saving the course. I think that if out of towners begin to show interest and email the news outlets as well as the sity council expressing their concerns it might just put us ahead.

oops...I made a mistake in an earlier post....sorry Valero. It is Motiva doing the expansions and are in need of the temporary housing. Look up motiva and let them know your feelings. They are getting tax abatements and we are loosing our course. Lets see here, the community looses money due to the tax abatements and then they loose a park? Its not supposed to work that way.
