Rant on....

1. Any time a final 9 is played on a different style course than the tournament is just stupid. Why should the guys who earned a spot in the final 9 by playing better than everyone else on a certain style course have to change styles by playing something totally different that what he won with.

2. Why do we even have final 9's? For galleries? I want to see cuts after three rounds to the paying spots only then a final 18 with a shotgun start.

3. Why do course designers do something or design a terrible hole and just not own up and admit that its not good. I've seen one and only one course designer admit that a hole he made was not a good hole.

4. Why do we focus on changing a course when obvious improvements need to be made before we start changing a course.

5. Disc Golf needs to limit the amount of discs someone can carry. It evens the playing field and truly lets better players win.

6. Any time I go to a tournament and the pins are going to move, there needs to be a note on the tee during practice rounds notifying me where and when the pins will change. Showing up Sunday morning and seeing a hole I've never even seen much less thought about is just simply unfair to out of towners.

Rant off...

7. Having a CTP throw-off for a 3-way tie for second place at Am Nat's on the buck-a-throw hole made me want to puke!

Just thought I'd add that in as I agree with the first six points and can't rant.

1. agree

2. interesting

3. Because they are blinded by the rest of the course. They see the hole before it & after it & think, "How can I connect those two?" They are so proud of the ones before & after, that they can't entertain the thought of designing a "bad" hole.

4.Sounds like a local issue.

5. disagree. Everyone can already carry the same amount of discs. As many as they want!

6. TDs should make the format clear.

Another thing - I'm really getting sick of people screwing around in PDGA tournament simply b/c they are out of the cash.

They have a rule in golf about it (basically you have to give your all at all times) and we should in disc golf as well.

Even though I may be on your card and we're both not going to cash no matter how hot we shoot, I may still want to play a serious round. Maybe I want to practice a tournament situation.

Hmmm I was well out of the cash at the Alamance County Pro/Am so I threw an all lefty round...And played with you on the card and you seemed to have a really good time watching me screw around throwing with the wrong hand...sure I put about 13 drives within the circle, but I putted lefty too which was just miserable...would you have prefered me continue to struggle righty and get all [I'm a potty-mouth!] or have a good time and throw lefty?
I don't agree that all players should carry the same amount of discss, that's just silly. Course designers make all the holes presumably in their mind as 'good' holes, and it would be tough for a designer to admit when he's wrong, it's just human conditioning to not want to admit you're wrong. I agree some should though.

Existing necessary changes should be made to courses (or upgrades/maintenance) before new pin positions or serious changed are made. If you don't fix what already needs to be fixed, then those problems will be put on the back burner and most likely never fixed. I see so many courses where little tweaking here and there would make the course tons better but instead they just add pins or new pads. Lums Pond in Delaware is a good example of both...for years it had too many trees to consider it a 'fair' course so they slowly took down trees over a few year span...then one year blammo, moved all the pins behind a ton of trees thus negating the previous 3 years worth of work. Silly mentality.

It's 6:53 am, I ran out of thought, this is the end of my post.

I've never (in 18 yrs) seen this been an issue, but it makes sense. Were they going to a different course altogether or playing a safari version at the same course?

2. Why do we even have final 9's? For galleries? I want to see cuts after three rounds to the paying spots only then a final 18 with a shotgun start.

Yes, the purpose is to showcase the talents of each divisions best players for spectators as well as other players who don't get the chance to play with these top players. I think 18 holes would take too long. It's not fair to the out of towners who didn't make the cut to wait another 3-4 hours for the awards ceremony and hit the road.

3. Why do course designers do something or design a terrible hole and just not own up and admit that its not good. I've seen one and only one course designer admit that a hole he made was not a good hole.

We all have different perspectives and opinions (surprise!) and they may still believe their design serves a worthwhile purpose. Everyone must understand however it's difficult to design a course without one or two not so good holes. There are often limitations you can't escape. Sometimes to make a hole more challenging you begin to conflict with another fairway or upset the flow of a course or flirt with a safety issue.

4. Why do we focus on changing a course when obvious improvements need to be made before we start changing a course.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here. If you're referring to a "throw the baby out with the bath water mentality" yeah I agree that's a concern. Radically changing a course can be avoided sometimes with minor tweaks and improvements. Then again if a course has multiple design issues it may be better to just change it altogether. The answer would vary depending on the the number and severity of the affecting factors.

5. Disc Golf needs to limit the amount of discs someone can carry. It evens the playing field and truly lets better players win.

I disagree here. I don't see this as an issue. Are you proposing this just because ball golf has such a rule? Personally, I believe carrying a lot of discs is a big mistake and will hurt your own play anyway. Limiting the number of discs will even the playing field? I don't buy it. If someone wants to lug a duffle bag around loaded down with 72 discs I don't care just so long as he can decide on a disc, find it and play it within the 30 second time limit. I see no reason for any such rule.

It makes sense. I've never seen this to be an issue. In my area the pins are in the correct spots several days if not a week in advance. After the tourney starts any changes are listed in the tournament program or atleast announced during the player's meeting.(MTL, maybe you should attend the player's meeting and actually pay attention to the TD)

Ace pools have done that to me (and others) at times. If you are out of the cash, you are not really out of the cash, so you try for the ace on every hole. On unreachable holes you find other ways to keep yourself entertained. Why be miserable if you are sucking?

hahaha, well, that was a non-sanctioned monthly with like 15 people - it was also the day of schwebs wedding and we were playing the second round immediantly after the first so we could get to the wedding.

Everyone in my group was laughing and we weren't holding anyone up. There is no way I would ever do anything like that in a sactioned event or with people behind us.

There is a big difference in the two....

Didn't you play in a sanctioned x-tier (fundraiser for the Crosstown) event that relied on Ript cards?

You're just jealous because you didn't come up with Reindeer games and we wouldn't let you play in ours. :D
