I was just wondering who some of the best mental game players in our sport are. People that can get over bad shots quickly, always play smart, and just keep the proper attitude up to play their best.

wow. he will really appreciate that. I'll make sure he sees this. I'm a little biased in my opinion of Mitch.
I think Walt Haney has possibly THE BEST mental game I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen Walt not smiling and joking.

I saw Walt slam a disc after he missed a putt once :D

And I could tell about last year's MSDGC when Mitch got a lost disc call and never recovered from it. All good players with a strong mental game can still lose control. I have a great mental game but off of the course I'm a mental case. One or two bad mental lapses doesn't give you a bad mental game.

Marsha,
It's too bad you couldn't make the WVO this year. Your boy put on quite a show for the gallery. He was making was making 40 footers look routine.
His attitude and ice water in the veins putting are the things I've always envied about his game.

Nate Doss, most of you may think that i'm saying that because he's the champ. Not so, Nate and I play nearly every week, and I hate it, because he doesn't mess up, and that is thanks to his awsome way not to blow up, or get upset. (unlike myself)

Definitely not Schweb...you whine too much :)
The MSDGC last year when I got a lost disc call on me (spotter claims he never saw it even though it ended up 15 feet from the pin, hidden behind a log...) and sure, I pretty much snapped but wasn't vocal at all, didn't slam anything, just went to the next hole, sat down, didn't mutter a word, then played the next few holes and got some 2's out of it. That's not too bad. (the holes before the lost disc I think I took a 7 then a 5, so the lost disc was the icing).
But thank you Steve. I've always liked your mental game as well because I'm not sure I've ever seen you [I'm a potty-mouth!] on the course. You're always very cordial, positive to the group, and are usually joking and smiling.
I've seen Walt throw and kick his bag both on one hole, granted we were playing in a flood...but everyone snaps.
Maybe Scott Howard from Warwick NY has the best mental game. The better he does, the funnier he gets. The worse he does, the funnier he gets. :-D
Walt Haney is by far the calmest, most even-tempered player I have seen on the course...I'm sure he has had his moments in the past, but his consistent positive attitude shines through even in his worst of moments. Schweb's attitude is always positive as well, but he is pretty reserved on the course...there to do his business, and understandably so.
From a lesser known stock...I'll play with any of the friZZaks anyday...there really aren't any more positive people than them...just don't look down when Sjur pulls up his shirt...that is one nasty scar.

i agree that walt has a great disposition on the course (schweb too, brian skinner too), and i taught mitch smart play, :p but the 2 most unfailingly positive players i have ever seen are will lewis and david devine.

How about some young guys with good head games???
I think you learn the head game just like you learn everything else.
Do any of the new young guns on the tour have great mental games???

I never see Chris Herren and Keith Warren get mad durning a tournament, these guys just laugh it off and play on. They're GREAT to play with in a tourney, very helpfuy and cool guys all around. :)

Not a clue. I was wondering the same thing myself. I heard he just quit playing.

He pretty much quit. He hurt his back earlier in the year and took the rest of the year off. He played a few tournaments here and there and either won or took 2nd in every one. I've played with him twice this year and he won both of those tournaments :P

I may have the worst mental game of anyone. Everytime someone looks at the board and sees that I'm in thier group, curse words usually follow.

Just a small step going from good mental game to mental case...
Those with good mental games seem to be able to turn their brains on to analyze what to do then turn them off during shot execution. I do OK with the first part...

I'm proud to say I've never kicked my bag, thrown my hat or cursed or yelled on the course unlike some people. I just laugh it off and then forget about it. A very good pro once told me, "The only shot you can change is your next one..."

I would hope that people that know me and play with me would consider my mental game to be very strong. The only bad blow-up that i have had recently was at the Ice Bowl. I went and personally apologized to each person on my card the next time I saw them.
Oh, and EddieOG has a great mentality too!

This is very true. I've played many rounds with you and good or bad you've always got a smile on your face. You truely have one of the best mental games of anyone I've ever played with. I've never seen you lose it, swear, kick, get angry, and most importantly I've never seen you give up.
