I recently bought 3 max weight Ching Bombs. It took a while to find them but it was worth it. I have other drivers that I do use but that Bomb really flies well for me. My question is, How do I know if these are first run? Not that it matters really because I am going to end up throwing them all anyway but I was just curious. Thanks for the help.

OK. Over 50 people have looked at this so there must be some interest in this disc. What are people looking for when they see "Ching bomb"?

I looked because I said to myself "wtf is a Ching Bomb?" :D

Discgolfreview has a review from 7-16-01 so it's an older disc. Not sure how to tell if it's first run.

Was there more than one run of those?

I have two with the orignal full-color logo. Not for sale, though, as they are customized with my name and old email tag-line: "Fight! Win! Prevail!"

To tell you the truth I just bought 3 of these and was actually considering holding on to 1 as a wall hanger. (Definately against my nature) but i figured if it is a first run it would be more collectible. This disc is kinda hard to find. Hell, I'll probably end up throwing it sooner or later anyway.

DTW is still selling these. There were several stamps out there, not sure which one was the 1st run though.

If the hotstamp is a large round bomb with a fuse, and 'CHING' inside the shape then it may be from the first run. After that, the hotstamp was changed to a smaller graphic icon with the stability guide at the top...and then finally the hotstamp was changed to a simple round border calling the disc a 'Primary Driver' with a design to allow for full color printing inside.

What about the Y2K editions? Wasnt the Bomb a Banshee hybrid or is that the EXP?

Sep 26 2005, 12:28 PM
Innova did produce the Bomb for Ching but they never used the mold for any of their own discs. At least that is what Innova told me. I have heard that the Banshee is close but I have not thrown one so I cant say for sure.

Thanks Mike,
These have the hotstamp with the fuze. So I guess they possibly are first run. I threw one into a tree yesterday. Serious bummer. That'll change the flight pattern. Thanks for the info.

The 'Y2K Edition' was intended to signify more about when the disc was produced as a collectible notation, rather than to indicate any difference in the mold/material... although it might be close to the time when it was retooled to a less concave rim - basically convex - with a little 'kicker' (not quite a bead) at the bottom rim edge. I think all the 'fuse-bomb' hotstamp discs are the original concave rim mold. Some would claim that the plastic is different too, which it may be, but probably only as a typical run variation and not from any intentional change. The Y2K hotstamp was the second one mentioned - the one with the stability guide at the top. When it turned 2001 we simply ground off the 'Y2K Edition' from the hotstamp casting.

How is the Genesis coming along? This disc is the shiznitt! When can we expect them to be in stores?

How is the Genesis coming along?

It's ready to cut final mold now if I was complacent with performance to run with the big dogs, but the new Excelerator pattern really boosted stability/control so we're going to overclock the speed in another proto-retool for more testing to lead the pack. Looks like 2006 for 1st run.

The Bomb is one of the best tomahawk discs ever made just never ever see them anymore

I just picked up 3 first run Bombs. They are pretty hard to find. I think they are a great driver. I cant find any y2k bombs though.

Anything in the works that's an overstable driver? Firebird/Monster like?
