Who will win ROY at next years Worlds? Remember these players must have turned Pro after the 2004 AM Worlds to be eligible.
I think I have an idea who would definitely be the front runner, if only he played more big tournaments:
Nate Sexton (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php?PDGANum=18824&year=2005)
4th at AM Worlds, but has moved his rating from 970's to over 1000 in less than a year.

I think that with JJ's stats (like 3 or 4 wins, 2nd in a NT, another top 10 in an NT) are very worthy of ROY and would win pretty much any other year, just not this year.
Boobs has ROY wrapped up IMO. They go one two at Am Worlds a year before and a year later are w/out a doubt 1-2 in ROY standings.
Everyone talks about Coda vs. JJ, but I think the real rivarly is Boobs and JJ. They will meet again at the Charlotte Open....

JJ: 16 Events, 4 Wins, 9 top 5's, $4,077 earned
close race, a good showing at USDGC could be the difference, good luck to both.

What do you think is the most important part of ROY consideration? Majors? NT Events? Player Rating? I know that Justin has a slightly higher PR, but they're very close in their finishes at majors, and Bubis played 8 NT events, and finished in the top 10 at 6 of those, with 3 top 5 finishes. These are often courses that, for a rookie, they haven't had a lot of experience on. So if a top 10 showing against the best in the game on a courses that a player isn't super familiar with doesn't win ROY, I must not understand what you need to do to win.

Good Professional Win by Jernigan (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=4229)
The difference between JJ that year is that this was his first am worlds. After a few tournaments when he realized he could play the game, he decided to take a shot at am worlds. It's not like he went two years before that and got 10th, then the year before that and got 3rd....everyone should get at least one shot at am worlds. One could argue that Jack Schmals (cashed in a NT and denied before worlds) , Matt Hall (is winning events left and right in open) and Kim Scott Wood (denied cash at pro worlds a week before am worlds) had no business playing at the am worlds, but no one is complaining about them.
As an advanced player at the time that JJ was dominating us in NC, it was nice to see him realize that the local competition in advanced was not good enough to push him to the level he needed to be at to win a worlds. He played pro not because he knew he was a pro, but to gain experience playing with better players to help make himself a better player.
As BS said, JJ is the 04 world champ, but Boobs is the 05 Rookie of the Year.
Congrats to both of them for thier accomplishements.

Unfortunatley last year at the 2 highest paying disc golf tournaments in the land your beloved NC golfers failed to score better than Okie golfers.

Hate to bring this up :Dbut it seems as OK was only able to field 3 total players for the USDGC 1-3rd, 1-137th & someone in 166th.
NC had 5 in the top 25 and accounted for 12% of all cashing players at the USDGC. On a side note the only player from NC to finish lower than 166th was some recreational kid that won the drawing for the free spot by purchasing a CE ROC.

Have you ever qualified for the USDGC? That's what I thought /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Haven't had the desire yet. Been busy the last 4 years volunteering at the event (both during and the weeks leading up to it) donating sponsorship money (my company has been a sponsor since the beginning) plus the running of an A-tier the weekend before. Kind of wears you out.
I'm actaully quite content to do my part that week by volunteering.
On a side note though. I did win more at the 2005 USDGC than you. Thanks to a 18 inch park job on 17 on spectator day Sunday I did happen to win the 55 gallon fish tank valued at $650. Actually that means I won more than 140 of the competitors. :D and it only took 1 throw to win more than you.
And you can't get me worked up. Life's too funny to let that happen.
Side bet on an Okie vs. a Carolinian at AM Worlds this year? :D

Sounds like a friendly wager....I'll put up 2 premium discs, or whatever?

No need for 2 discs. You put up 1 of the '06 Worlds discs and I'll put up 1 of our World's discs. Plus of course the usual message board proclimation "your state is so much better than out state".
And someone wants to bet on a Texas player??? Do people in Texas still golf cause I haven't seen any of them on a leader board in a long time??? To be honest I didn't know Texas was still a state, thought we sold it back to Mexico in '97.

And I'm guessing Nolan won't make it to worlds this year.
We could do a seperate wager on the MPM division also. I've got a funny feeling the masters we're sending will hold thier own.

Here;s the thing. It's NC. If a hole like this is in front of you, there is no such thing as a hyzer route. Theres the route and that's it.
One of only three things happen.
1. You throw it straight.
2. You hit a tree

The tight courses we have here have a lot of variety on the holes. One hole will have a straight route, an anhyzer, and a tight hyzer line to the basket. Each of these has its advantages as well as its own risks.

Mr. Grider is now 28 days from being a Daddy so the DG course is the least of his worries. Clayton (we're pretty sure, but can't confirm until the swelling goes down and the DR's can get a good X-ray) has broken his arm due to a go-cart accident :(.
I've seen Matt play a few times now and there is no doubt he has some game and, I think, he is only going to get better as he matures. He's already solid in his game, so when that mental part of his game comes in he will be one of the best golfers around.

2005 Pro - Coda -
2006 Pro - Coda probably
2005 Advance - Mike Conners' favorite transplant in Texas and Matt Halls best doubles partner to date :) aka "Putt_like_Tiger"
2006 Advanced - Billy
2005 16 under - Devan Owens
2006 19 and under - Devan Owens
Oklahoma knows how to breed winners, and look for NC's singles streak to end (thank God so we will stop hearing about it).

It's kind of hard not to talk about it. 3 of the last 4 Adv world champs are from here. And I'm not doubting some Okies will have a home field advantage and may place well. But I'm confident enough to plase a small wager on it. Okie vs. NC that is.

and that's not message board distance! That's actually (real life) distance. I can't wait to see all these guys who claim to throw over 500ft regularly see what 500ft really looks like. Billy Lund will own am worlds.
Since I have traveled around the country I have some good insight on certain regions of the country.
There is a good chance that an OKIE will win distance, but for winning the tournament I would have to say that an NC player has more of a chance. NC golfers have more disc golf skills than OKIES due to their MUCH superior courses. We are working on building courses that are the equivilent to some of the great courses that NC has and I think within the next 10 years the leaderboards in the Open divisions will be littered with OKIES!
With all that said if the wind is blowing at all, even if its only a 10mph wind, its all over for the Carolinians. Okies will dominate
oakhollowdgc
Mar 08 2006, 04:41 PM
I agree with Kevin on this one. Distance no matter how impressive will only get you so far come tourney time.
It's not just the level of courses where Carolinians hone thier skills but who they hone them against. And there is no tougher region in the country than the Triangle area. Past 2 Adv world champs are a testament to that. Play with the likes of Walt, Larry, Schweb, Mcree, Hoffman, Sonderfan, CLEE, GTW etc...etc...and see what happens to your game.
But there is hope as Nina seems to play well in these parts.
Now if the wind is blowing then it's a whole nother story. We don't get crazy winds aroud here unless it's on the coast.

If wind is going to be a significant factor on some courses versus others at Am Worlds, we probably need to seed the pools in MA1 and MM1 with most top seeds in one pool.
Wind is usually only a factor 11 months out of the year last two weeks of July and most of August its HOT as two rats "having intercourse" (<-PG rated version for the board) in a wool sock. Its hotter than a goats "bum" in a pepper patch. Hotter than donut grease.
and when the wind blows then it feels like a hair dryer.

It's one thing to be able to throw 600 feet in the wide open when it doesn't matter where it lands, it's another to claim that as a strength to your game. I'd love to see anyone throw an accurate 600 foot thrown during a tournament round (when it's not crazy elevation downhill)
Unless you're Avery and you're throwing 150 class in Japan with high winds and you're playing a pretty open course, outside of that, however, distance doesn't mean much. Accuracy is where it's at.
