I curious to know if any Roc fanatics are switching or using the Coyote. Being relatively new to disc golf, I have no history with the Roc. I throw them, but have found that with a couple of Coyotes, I may not need them. I have been able to throw the Coyote as well as, if not better than I have been able to throw the Roc.
I would like to read what other players are experiencing with the Roc and Coyote.
And if you are a Roc fan, do you carry a Coyote for turnover shots, or do you prefer a beaten Roc, and why.
I guess I'm trying to figure out if I should spend the time to master the Roc, or if I should pass it, and focus on mastering my Coyote. BTW, glow Coyotes are freaking awesome ... I prefer the glow over the Champion. They feel a little more stable to me.
Do all Coyotes fly the same ... or is it my imagination that the glow is more stable. Are any of the Champion Coyotes (color, opacity, weight) more stable than others? And if I need a more stable Coyote, but can't find one, would the Champion Roc (or Shark) be a good solution?

Throw a BUZZZ, youll never go back :D
I haven't thrown the coyote. When I was looking at them, the comparison to a buzz was made, and I have 2 buzzes. So, I never bothered to get one. If you like them though, stick with them; do not let other decide for you. I never really liked the roc myself.
I would be more interested in something like a spider than a coyote.

Theres a whole thread that basically covers this. Its under Coyote. I went from Rocs to QMS' then onto the Coyote, and havent looked back. I personally like the grip I get on the Coyote vs. Rocs. As the Coyote flies like a well used DX Roc, I use it for any line. I carry 2 Coyotes for midrange shots and short drives. A Des Moines Stamped Champion version and a Glo X- Out that has a super high dome and feels alot like an Aero. I agree the Glos do feel a little more Beefy, and seem to be more of a hysering disc than the normal Champion. I think the Glo is alot like a Buzzz more than it is a beat in Roc. The Buzzz will go farther though, for me, but I still threw it onto the junk heap after one round with the Coyote. It also could be mental, but the DM Champion Coyote seems a little more stable than the non- tourney stamped version. All your questions are probably answered in the other Coyote thread.

No offense, but that doesn't have anything to do with my question.
I have thrown a lot of Buzzz's, and own at least15. But I'm interested in learning the Coyote now, and would like to know how it fit's into the bag with the Roc/Shark.
Like I said, I'm still pretty new to the game, in a way. I began playing DG in 1978, but spent about 30 years after that being a semi-professional rock/ice/mountain climber. I started playing DG a little over a year ago now, because I can't keep climbing hard-core for physical reasons. DG is a new passion, and I like learning discs. The Buzzz is one of the first discs I learned, and it's an awesome disc, but the Coyote is different. I like the feel of it better than a Roc or Buzzz, the rounded wing is comfortable, and if I can get it to do anything a Buzzz or Roc does, well, I'm gonna like it.
Living in the mountains, I have ZERO disc stores within a 3.5-4 hour drive. It's easier for me to ask what others have experienced with the disc.
Were the Des Monies ones a CFR??? Or a first run?
I have one, and I have also thrown regular Ch. Coyotes - The DM Coyote defintely seems to be more stable/overstable than the blue Ch. Coyote I've thrown. It also doesn't seem to glide as much...it's a lot stiffer, less domey.

My brother loves his rocs, but has recently got a coyote. I heard him say the other day that this disc may become his new mid. disc. I know he really likes it better in the wind than a roc.
If you have no history with the Roc, then just throw what feels and works best for you. Personally I like my Rocs. Ive tried a Coyote and I couldnt seem to keep the nose down for some reason. I mean, when I threw it right, it was very nice but not as dependable as a Roc in my opinion...

To answer the poster's question, I love both and carry both. I have a 180g SB Roc, New 180g 11x KC Pro Roc, and 180g Champ Coyote. The 11x for hard to gentle hyzers, SB for gentle hzyers to straight, and the coyote for straight to anhyzer. The Rocs seem to handle the faster speed better and also wind. However, the coyote will go just as far with less effort if thrown correctly. My rocs are better for low celing shots. For anything under 300ft, a coyote may be all you need. I can throw my coyote with accuracy up to 340-350ft. Anything over that I have to put more spin and speed on it so I use rocs or a driver, depending on the hole. But the coyote did replace my beat roc because it will not beat in as fast and its more predictable. If you can find a 1st run coyote, they are a hair more stable than the rest but most ppl can't tell the difference. Also, and this is just something I've noticed, my coyote hardly skips at all. Which is good and bad at times. My SB Roc is a good skipper, especially off the morning dew, good for an extra 20-30 ft., which is also a good and bad thing. Hope this helps answer your question. And for the record I have wasps and buzzzes and have thrown both. They are pretty much all the same disc. They just vary in beatness. So its whatever you prefer. Right now I throw Rocs and Coyotes, in 2 months I may throw wasps and Buzzz's. I throw whatever disc I'm not mad at for misbehaving ;)

I use a Super Roc for shorter approaches and putting in the wind. I use a SB Roc and the Glow Coyote for drives out to 300 ft. Both work great, I use what feels good at the moment.
The Coyote is a great disc. I am using one and keeping one in my bag as long as I play this game. I use it for shots where I need to realease with a touch of hyzer and have it flip up to flat and stay there. I still carry a DX Roc for throwing dead straight up to 420 feet, and I carry a Champion Shark for all my overstable mid range needs. So, the Coyote fits right in between the Champ Shark and the DX Roc stability wise.

Thanks Bob!
BTW the first "official" disc golf course I ever played was the one in Balboa Park in San Diego. Wow ... that was a long time ago. Would sure like to play it again.

I had a Coyote, threw it a few times, then got rid of it. For me, it is a disc that didn't make much sense. Not stable enough for a dedicated accurate mid-ranger, not understabe enough for reliable turnovers. I prefer a Wasp for my stable mid-ranger and a Glide for an understable mid-ranger. Haven't run into many people throwing the Coyote at my home course (DeLaveaga) either...seems like most prefer the Buzz or Glide for this type of disc.
Ive never thrown either but I'm supposed to get a roc in the mail tomorrow.

Eric, the Glide is good for turnovers but sometimes I think it isn't totally predictable because it has more speed and is longer than all other mids. You should try a Comet for turnovers too. I throw a Glide but there is no way it could replace my Comet.
shhhh.....dont tell.....but i threw one of schweb's red coyote's when they first came out and i loved the way it flew.....just a tad of hyzer and a decent pop and i carried an entire soccer field.....but i cant find a CLEAR ONE!!!! as to rocs....i have had one in my bag since i seriously started dg....they are the bread and butter of my bag.....except for my firebirds......but they are great discs and so many kinds with different qualities......its really hard to compare the two.....only a few if not just one type of coyote.....and god knows how many different rocs there are......i like both of the discs but i dont have both in my bag.....cuz i cant get one.....but i will have one soon and i will use it.......it just depends on which one will get hot as to which one i am throwing at that time

nothing beats roc, a dx roc will basically do anything you want it to depending on how beat it is
do what works best for you, if i could get more D out of my rocs, I prolly would take most of the drivers out of my bag, and just use different types of rocs for any shot

Ya, I have a Comet too. Prefer the Glide tho, but the Comet might make it back into my bag. I find the Comet to be a bit more stable than the Glide.
Do you think there is much difference between a Comet and a Coyote? If anything, I think the Coyote may be a bit longer?

Pretty sure they are all 1st runs.
The Des Moines version was 1st Run, 1st Stamp. No CFR.
I threw the regs and like the DMs more. I have stacks now, and will probab;y never need another mid-range. I havent used them all that much in stiff winds yet though, so we will see.

Agreed. But, the Coyote definately has it's uses out on the course. I will throw my Rocs whenever possible, but the Coyote seems to wrk really good for those touch/float shots, and for sidearm shots. But you are right about the DX Rocs, they are the best disc ever made right next to Aviars.

Well, comparing the Comet and Glide is hard to do because the Glide isn't a true midrange disc. It is between a midrange and a driver and much faster than any midrange.
I disagree that a Glide is less stable than a Comet. Comets are straight when thrown with finesse but very understable when you put a lot of arm power on them. That is why they are so underrated. Most players are too much arm and not enough wrist. The Glide is only understable when you throw it really hard. With a normal throw and no wind, it holds whatever line you put it on (even hyzer /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif).
I use my mids (Wasp, Buzzz and Comet) for anything up to 300' and I use the Glide for 300-375' shots. The only time I use the Glide for shorter shots is when there is a low ceiling.
how does a glide compare to a coyote?
i found the Glide was less stable and more finicky. The Coyote seems to have the good attributes that the Glide, Comet, and Storm have -- minus their drawbacks :D

how does a glide compare to a coyote?
Glide is faster and longer than a Coyote. It is also less stable at high speeds and finishes with less fade than a Coyote.
The Coyote is a decent disc. It is between a Buzzz and Comet as far as stability. I don't really have a use for it but that is just personal preference.
Hate the name though. :D

The glide is much more finicky..only had one in my bag for a few rounds. However my only throw with a coyote was close to an ace..a few feet short, but on a perfect line 317ft down hill(if you've read my other posts...you know that's good for me)
I also should add the head bull(see signature link) has 8 aces with his, including one on the same temp hole that I ran at.
