I'm trying to find someone familiar with Mineral Springs Park in Seattle. We are looking at possible tree protection measures on our course and came across mention of Mineral Springs. I'm curious what the specs are on the poles and netting that was used and any other info. about how these mitigation measures have worked.
(see: http://www.djc.com/news/en/11156166.html)
Thanks in advance.
This course is 18 teepads and about 12 targets on 4 acres. Very tight course in a very densely populated neighboorhood. It was used HEAVILY by locals including weekly acepots, doubles, etc.
The parks department, in collaboration with a neighborhood association, made the changes for a few primary reasons and one "pain in the a@@" (a@@) reason:
protect the trees that were not diseased
remove diseased trees to prevent injury from falling
"beautify" the park for the neighborhood
pita: discourage (reduce not eliminate) disk* golfers (in my opinion)
I believe this is true because of complaints from those who live close to the park. These neighbors do not appreciate boozing and litter and smokin and consequences of having no facilities on site and not being able to take their dogs for their morning business without getting hassled for not cleaning up. Also, facilities have been added, finally.
Not that it was only dgers, but we were the most visible and easiest to complain about. Are all of the "barriers" needed? Probably not. But the redesign seems to have created the intended effect. Yes you can still throw there. Is there less dg traffic now? I don't know ... can one believe all of the discussion threads?
I moved from the area shortly before the construction began and have not had a chance to play there since.
I do not know the specs on what was done there, but here is the link to Seattle Parks site for Mineral Springs:
