If someone played a pro tournamnet before the 2005 am world championship and accepted money but is rated at 893 can they play am world in 2006 if they stay under 955.
This was the only time they accpeted money and won't accept it again.

I think if they have accepted any money in a sanctioned tournie they cannot play a major am tournie. They could play smaller tournies, but not majors. And it doesnt matter if their rating was an 1100 they could always play am worlds, as long as they havent accepted cash. I know since I had accepted cash in a tournie right before Am dubs, I could not play that tournie because it was a major. I think anyway.

Once a player accepts cash in a sanctioned event, they have turned Pro and cannot play in the Amateur division in Majors. However, players can petition the PDGA to switch back to amateur status. At one time, you were still prevented from playing in Majors in amateur divisions. I believe it may be a little more lenient now. The reinstated player might be able to enter majors in amateur but they may have to sit out a year. The player should send their request to PDGA HQ to get their answers.
The "under 955" rule pertains to pros being allowed to play in an amateur division at non-Majors. Regardless what the word is from PDGA HQ, this player will be welcome to play in our new Major, the U.S. Mid-Nationals in Highbridge regardless whether they are pro or am as long as their rating is under 975.

You make it sound like it was an unsanctioned event "local doubles tourney". Unsanctioned events do not matter, no matter the size. Heck, I have even accepted unsanctioned cash multiple times. If this is the case, he has nothing to worry about.
If it was sanctioned, he would have still been able to deny the cash, even in doubles, and his partner would have still been able to accept the money.

Bingo! If it's not PDGA sanctioned, it doesn't count. The swith from am to pro only happens when you take cash at a PDGA event.
I've taken cash as an am in several non-sanctioned events.
Yeah, for sure unsanctioned better not count (which I know they don't) because otherwise there will be a whole lot of local leagues in trouble.
Everyone wants the best AM players to move up into the Pro ranks. But some of the best AM players would like to play in the next AM Worlds. So between now and the next AM Worlds, these players are either going to play Pro and not accept the cash (which seems pointless) or not play any tournaments at all or continue to play Am.
BUT your qualification for the AM Worlds is based on your performance during the previous calendar year. The 2006 AM Worlds invitations will be for Am players from 2005.
Why not make it so that any AM can turn Pro on January 1 of the following year and accept cash? By requiring Ams to remain Ams until the Worlds, the PDGA is essentially encouraging them keep playing as an Am rather than turning Pro.
Point being that if your performance in 2005 as an Am is the qualification for your invitation to the Am Worlds in 2006, then why should it matter what division you play in (or if you accept cash) as of January 1, 2006?
D
your point makes a lot of since but what do i know :D

i petitioned the pdga to move back down to amature this year and was granted amature status around feburary of this year.i entered the us master's and was able to play,so i would say they have relaxed the one year waiting period to play in a major.rhett brought it up to me about the one year waiting period so i emailed the pdga and the response i got back was favorable
I know of a advanced master in Texas that acceopted cash in November then played World doubles and am worlds! ????
