I have been reading and reading on Blakes site trying to find ways to improve my technique and form to obtain a bit more distance. I am able to get a Pro Starfire, Sidewinder, Flash type disc out about 340 average with the occasional 385, mind you all this on flat ground. While this is a huge increase over the start of the year I know there is more in me. From what I have read based on the flight characteristics of my disc I have a throw dominated by velocity rather than snap. My understable discs mentioned above are released with a bit of hyzer and flip up really quick and cruise out right and then fade in left at the end. I know there are a lot of ways to experiment with gripe and foot placement I wondered what has helped others. Right now I'm a 5 step X step with a long snugged up reach back. I do have fairly poor follow thru which might be a result of plant foot angle. Give me some pointers to try in a field.
Thanks

Get some midrange discs and putters. Practice throwing them for distance in a field. If you can throw a putter 80-90% with a flat release and it doesn't flutter or flip over, you know you are getting a good amount of spin.
Drivers can correct our faults. Putters and midrange discs tell the truth.
Well I can achieve what you mention with a Buzz, Wasp or a Wizard. I did go out to a field tonight and noticed after some throws that my disc really takes about 50 yards before it flips up flat and cruises. I'm just going to keep working on things and see what I can do. I'll keep reading and see what happens.
Sounds like you've got some torque issues, look at blakes recent posts on this forum about fold and unfold, and reaching back low and following through high, and pulling on a straight line instead of twisting the disc around the body. Try keeping your head from moving around alot, look forward most of the throw, this should help you find balance which should help create a more consistent follow through. You should still be throwing the slower discs like teebirds. If you're flipping them there is something wrong with your technique, fix that, start throwing teebirds 400ft consistently then start fooling around with the high speed drivers, even though they're not teh discs that hold the distance records ; ). The fold and unfold should help you get snap.

Found the information you mentioned and it does seem to relate a little bit to what I see happening. I know on some occasions I have managed to perform it as Blake and you describe however some disc's I'm throwing require a flat any release to get them to not hyzer out. I will work on this method some more and maybe it will help.
That reach back can be used for level shots and can even be used for slight anny shots. I think its a little bit more tricky though. I'm just learning how to use it, sometimes I get a good shot sometimes I don't.
