I just revcieved a z Buzz at 176, and I have been able to plant it right next to the basket. This is contrary to what I could do with my previous z Buzz which was a 172.

I know many people say that weight does not make that much of a difference, but these two discs definately fly differently. The heavier one is a bit more overstable (still a straight flier) where as the lighter one is almost overstable.

Does anyone know how weight affects stability?

sandalman
Sep 12 2005, 03:31 PM
heavier = more stable

Sep 12 2005, 03:47 PM
Does lighter then mean less stable?

For example, let's say I want a less stable predator. If I get a lighter one, am I getting a less overstable predator?

my_hero
Sep 12 2005, 04:00 PM
That is one way. A lighter disc will be less stable.

Also, spin to thrust ratio has a ton to do with stability...........best way to learn "spin" is to learn how to make a freestyle disc, or an ultrastar fly stable.

Once you can control an ultrastar or freestyle disc, then take what you've learned and apply it to your golf discs. You'll soon realize that ALL golf discs are stable to overstable....no matter what the masses *think*. :)

This may help clear things up....or not. :D

That does clear things up. I know when I first started playing I was taught that for a right handed player the disc will always finish left if thrown flat.

Also, I was originally taught to throw the lightest disc you can control for maximum distance; is this still the case?

I see more people searching for max weight discs. I still prefer something in the 168-170 range (for non-putters or midranges).

There are Few Buzzz's Being made right now..
YOu have your Obvious D, X, and Z Buzzz.
BUt you also have the 1st RUn Z which was completely different than any others.
THen you have Domey Z Buzzz's which is the current ones and they honestlyh suck..
THen you have the Cryztal Buzzz which is domey, but very stable and a nice hyzer disc..
and you also have Flat TOP Z-buzzz's which seem to be flukes, but are the most like First runs.. They are fast, Lots of glide, And Straight Fliers..

You might have 2 different Buzzz's..
My first run is a 178 and my Flat top that i just lost was only a 174, but was my Slight Hyzer Buzzz.

-Scott Lewis

Sep 12 2005, 10:37 PM
Neither of them is domey.

Sep 13 2005, 01:01 AM
My CryZtal Buzzzes and every single one I have seen are not domey. They are almost concave they are so flat. They are more overstable that way.

Sep 13 2005, 01:08 AM
I got a weird Cryztal then because mine is domey..
I'd like a flat one, but that's what regular Flat top Z-buzzz's are for and 1st runs :)

-Scott Lewis

Sep 13 2005, 03:12 AM
Is there any way I can figure out which run I have? I think my lighter one is a first run.

Sep 13 2005, 03:26 AM
It will say First run on the Top of the Stamp.
It will also say WASP on the inside of the Rim instead of BUZZZ since it was a modified Wasp Mold originally.

I have a buzz that says "Wasp" inside, but not first run on the top. What run would this be? (It's kinda domey on top). Sorry, I'm kinda clueless on the buzzz thing.

Well, here I am. You know you guys shouldn't hait. Throw anything you want, I dont care. The discraft remark was just having fun. The Buzz is a great disc, and so are many that Discraft make. The only thing is, most of their stuff is just a copy of what Innova already has out. Calling people names is pretty childish, grow up a little. Innova #1 disc manufactuer, always has been, always will be.

Why do you think first run buzzz are going for 40-50 bucks on ebay, while 2005 champ rocs don't even get what people originally paid for them. Stay on the Innova threads Bob. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That would be a neat trick since the Buzzz came out about two years before the coyote.

Perhaps Innova invented a time machine in the year 2099, Discraft copied it, came back in time, made the Buzzz, and preempted the Coyote's release by 24 months or so just to be jerks.

Forth hand, Isn't the wasp closer to a roc then a buzzz? Look at a Wasp and a Roc. The Buzzz is a retooled wasp mold, after all.

I thought the coyote was a glide knock off?

Sep 14 2005, 03:37 AM
Basically speaking for all that havne't been playing disgolf for the last 2-3years.

The Wasp is basically a CE ROC... It might even be more stable, but i'm not sure. THe wasp was always talked about as being the poor mans CE ROC, but it's just as good and has it's own pros and cons.

THe Buzzz is basicaly a BEADLESS Wasp. THe original runs didn't even have their own molding plates.. They used Modified WAsp plates instead and that's why the original buzzz's say Wasp in the rim. These are like beat up Wasps or Beat up Rocs..
basically Straight Fliers and the 1st Runs were a great example of one of the best discs ever made.

That's the rundown ont he Wasp and Buzzz.. I don't know much about the coyote because I've never seen one in person I don't know what mold it is, but I heard it is supposed to be an alternative to a Roc mold and more Understable than a roc. So it's basically supposed to be a Different shaped beat up roc for people that don't like the feel of a roc?

it's quite alright. I just wanted to end Confusion as I happend to know a few things about the Buzzz. Figured I'd put in my knowledge where knowledge was needed.

Buzzz is a great disc, but I don't like the regular runs. I only like the runs that come out Flat top. The Cryztals seem to come out that way from what i've heard although mine is domey. And many regular Z Ghost stamped ones are Very flat which is waht i'm looking for.

-Scott Lewis

Sep 14 2005, 04:43 AM
Yeah it is more like Coyote is a Buzz copy.

Threw my am worlds players package coyote this weekend and it's nothing like a buzz. Course I've only thrown 1st run buzzez and gave them up because they were waay overstable and I couldn't get a grip on the hard plastic. Course people who know me say I need to get a grip, period ... but that's another subject. Anyway the coyote was a straight flyer for a wimpy arm and turned over with the slightest hint of an anheyser throwing angle.

Sep 14 2005, 04:46 AM
2 myths contradicted here: Discraft only copies others, and has little>>>no variations in the runs.

Sep 14 2005, 09:51 AM
I've thrown the buzz and coyote only a few times, but the coyote seems more like a more predictable glide than a buzz.

Sep 14 2005, 10:24 AM
Yeah it is more like Coyote is a Buzz copy.

So the Coyote is a copy of a modified copy of a Roc? ;)

we all play the game for the same reason, because we love it.

Love the game yes, but the players....that would be a different story. I throw both Discraft and Innova with a splash of Gateway and I still have Innova players harassing me.

Interestingly, I've never had a Discraft sponsored person insult me or my equipment for throwing other products... If anything, they will give me something I don't have and ask me to try it out and see what I think.

Sep 14 2005, 12:57 PM
I started with a Roc back in 97 or so; it was a flying eye disc. Sadly, I lost it about the time it was breaking in. Someone at the course gave me an xd which I used for years until I basically cracked it in half.

At this point I thought about getting another roc but was looking for champion plastic as it was readily available, the plastic not the disc.

I was told a z wasp was similar and much easier to find. This was from an Innova player: wasp = roc.

Same person told me before I ordered that buzz = beat up roc, which is what I wanted.

So I ordered a buzz. Unfortunately it came in very light and didn't seem to fly well. Before I gave up on it I ordered a max weight from sun king, and it is my go to midrange right now.

I don't remember much how the roc flew since it's been about 9 years or so, but I am very pleased with my buzz. And yes, I owned a buzz when the coyote was released.

I have had the same thing happen to me, but what makes it even better, is that I only had 1 or 2 discraft, and 1 or 2 gateway, with 5 or 6 Innova (it's been a while back) I still play with a lot of Innova guys, just not that one particular one. Most say if it works for you, throw it.

Greatzky,

I see more flat top runs appearing in retail then Domey. I do like the domey ones, but they are my instant turnover mids instead of being straight like the flat top Buzzzes.

Sep 14 2005, 05:13 PM
i just got what i was told is a Cryztal Via UPS today, and im not 100% sure if it is, but it seems pretty flat top to me. its kinda like my wasp, with a bit thicker profile, no bead, and a flatter top.

personally i could never throw my KC roc so i gave it away. i ended up getting an MRV and a wasp and have been using them as my go to discs for everything including putting. i wanted somehting a bit more overstable then the MRV so i bought a buzzz to fill the gap, or possibly replace it, we will see what happens...

and for the record, a disc is a disc. who cares who came out with it first or who makes it better. if you only throw Innova, try some discraft like i did, and Vice Versa. i like getting a variety of stuff so i know whats out there.

Sep 14 2005, 05:56 PM
I agree, a disc is a disc. Don't sell yourself short. I have Discraft, Innova, and Gatway in my bag. Actually, it is the attitudes of the Innova players that cause me to select other manufacturers, not the product itself.

I think I'm down to only a viking as I replaced my aviars with wizards.

You can take a disc from one company and find another similar disc from another company; what difference does it make which came first. I do believe in trying the disc to see which you like best. Throw the one that feels the best.

My preference for discraft actually developed due to their z plastic. So what if runs produce slight variations? I didn't have to replace discs as often from hitting trees.

When the candy plastic came out, I tried it, and I do like it; however, it still seems that the elite z is somewhat tougher and takes a beating better. The candy plastic may be more grippy (I call it gummy), but it does not seem to hold up to dings as well.

I don't know man, maybe the runs that they sent me were different, because the domey Z buzzzs i have are stable as hell man, i love em, they just shipped 5 flat yellow ones, yet to try them....

Sep 16 2005, 05:23 AM
agreed, 15857.

my domey buzz is MUCH more overstable than my 2 flat tops, although I am a lefty...

Sep 16 2005, 03:04 PM
Both of mine are flat, but one is somewhat understable. It may have to do with weight. I can be dense at times. I'm starting to see the relationship between weight and stability.

I'm in the same boat. I have 2 2004 worlds stamped "buzzzen" (quoting the plural buzzz from a different post) that I don't/haven't thrown, one is cryZtal plastic and one is regular Z, the cryZtal is way flat and the Z is a little domey and they both say WASP on the inside rim.....would these be the first runs that people enjoy so much......thanks in advance. :)

They're early runs deffinately. I believe that there are some first runish discs that got hot stamped (I have 2 club dead hot stamped wasp buzzzen) that are OVERly flat. **** near concave like this girl I used to date's boobs. They fly straight with a touch of fade at the end in my hand.

Back on topic, they're saught after like the hot chick's friends. You settle for them until you can get the top prize.

Sep 24 2005, 01:17 AM
Dfee.. If they are domey they aren't 1st run.

Also I'm suprised that your Cryztal says Wasp underneath. MIne says Buzzz like it should because they were Way out of the Prototype stage and had their own Molds for the buzzz by the time they started to make the Cryztals... I"m also suprised that your domey buzzz says Wasp..

As a Note.. Most of the 1st Runs if not all ARe made of an OPAQUE plastic.. You can see light through it, but YOU couldn't put it up to your face and look through..
