It couldnt happen to a better guy as well. Adams a total class act.

That was just an awesome performance. Definitely be on the look out for him at USDGC, he's got the game to do well out there. I think he's gonna be at the Player's Cup too.

Got two play about two and a quarter rounds with Adam at the OHO last month. Super nice guy. He should have a good chance at the Open for cash. I like those dogs too. Very well behaved Setters, nice lady friend too. Kinda glad he won that major so I don't have to lose to him anymore this year. He got me by 2.

I don't know JollyGreen. He's awful quiet. If it weren't for the Irish Setters, all the moaning and groaning in the Advanced ranks about the "new kid" and his winning everything in sight at OHO, I wouldn't have even known he was there. I think he's up to something. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif :D Odds are anyone paired against him is going to think the same thing. Good on ya Adam.

AO!
What was cool was watching him quietly win the speed golf event at the USADGC after having won the real competition.
first double champion (speed golf and the USADGC title)
his winning speed golf might sound like a minor point, but i think it says something about Adam. by the way, the toboggan run hill you had to run down (hole 1) and then the one you had to run back up (18) were widow makers :D

What is "speed golf?" How did he win it?
You throw a drive to hole 1's basket, sprint down the hill to pick it up and hole out, then turn around and drive it from there to hole 18's basket (picking it up and playing it from where it lies (within 2 meters) until you've holed out 18). Meanwhile you are being timed. Mike Robinson and Scott Slater each did it in around 2:06 or 2:07 and there were two people under 2 minutes. Adam was quite a bit under 2 minutes for the win (i forget who the other under 2 minute participant was...). everyone who entered received a prize for their effort
Adam's drive landed on the putting circle for hole 1. Running up from hole 1's pin all the way to 18's basket separates the men from the boys /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
btw, the competition was held after the completion of the 3rd round and before the Awards ceremony...

Did anyone at USADGC play in the Mid-Nationals? A friend of mine wanted to know how the Toboggan course compares to the Highbridge Gold course in difficulty.

Sep 15 2005, 08:52 PM
The Highbridge Gold layout played for Mid-Nats is 3-4 shots tougher than Toboggan. No one broke 60. The Blueberry and Granite layouts are 1-2 shots easier than Toboggan the way they were setup. All three of those Highbridge courses can be set with even tougher pin placements if desired. The Granite course terrain is very similar to Toboggan on elevation, but a little more open and can be set to match the Toboggan SSA.

I feel 60 should be broken by the ADV division in nearly ever event but to shoot 54 would be a different story. BTW Pete Middlecamp supposedly shot a 51. :o

Sep 15 2005, 09:35 PM
Thanks Chuck. Pete shot a 51? My 60 was a 999, or i guess will be a 1007 round, so he wouldve shot around 1080-1085ish? Wow, that is an absolutely incredible round if that is true.
ck34
Sep 15 2005, 09:42 PM
Pete showed what's possible in practice but that would be tougher to do in competition. With that high of SSA, a 51 is closer to 1060-1065, still very excellent.

Sep 15 2005, 09:48 PM
So with the current ratings system it would be impossible to shoot 1100? :o:confused: :o
ck34
Sep 15 2005, 10:42 PM
The higher the SSA, the more throws below SSA you have to throw to reach 1100. Yes, it's probably less likely the higher the SSA. That's why we have best round rating records for three categories of courses: under 50, 50-59.9, 60+. The more wooded the course, the more likely someone can eventually shoot the magic round of 1100 rating.
the_kid
Sep 15 2005, 10:46 PM
Which is why you can boost your rating by playing short courses? Alos the best you can shoot out there is -6 and that is with 7 dueces and only one four on the 1000+ hole.
ck34
Sep 15 2005, 11:07 PM
You're slightly more likely to shoot a round 90 above your rating on a low SSA course but you're just as likely to shoot a round 90 below your rating. Your average rating of all rounds will be no better on lower SSA courses than higher SSA courses. You'll likely have a wider range of ratings on lower than higher SSA courses.

I was going to say, he probly shot a near perfect round. Sorry for jacking your thread Adam!
what was the prize this year for the winner?
i guess you mean the speed golf prize because you know what Adam got for winning the USADGC. there were several prizes laid out on the picnic table by Mark Ellis -- all handpicked from Discraft's special stash. i think there were a few of those *crazy* flat green Z Buzzz's, some gold (gray?) MRV's of which only a handful were made, some Discraft fleece vests, two of the limited edition glow Z Trackers, and some other stuff. When i was called to pick my prize there was still one glow Z Tracker left so i took it. I'm not sure what Adam took -- maybe an MRV

A Chainstar basket the tee sign for hole 1 and a kick arse Crystal trophy.

for some reason i remember the prizes for speed golf were way better....
wow, an MRV for first place (?) after running down hole one then all the way up hole 2..... sign me up! LMFAO
it would be cool if they made a trophy for it. i still say Emerson had it right though when he said:
"the reward of a thing well done is to have done it"
imo, material prizes too often point away from the accomplishment itself.

i would say the best acomplishment after having played 3 rounds of golf on teh tobogan would be to:
sit down, and have a cold beer.... afterall you've deserved it.
not... lets see who can run the fastest up hole 2.
i would love to partake in the speed golf... but i would never win.. i dont have a big enough arm for it...
i must say it is entertaining to watch tho
atleast in adams case he set a new world record and won the two hardest compeitions out there... too abd he did not dominate in the lizard games as well..
well, -- it is actually a lot more fun than it sounds. (and it feels so good when it stops) Jamie Mosier beat the times of 4 other players, and Terry Calhoun also partook in the event and cashed. (everyone who participated ca$hed). it was also opened to anyone to try and get a lot of participants (i think there were 21?)
for those without big arms, throwing 150 foot straight shots isn't really that bad a strategy either -- especially when you look at the elevation change and how an errant (rushed) shot might lead to a lot of extra mileage :D
a small point of correction -- the competition involved throwing down to 1's pin and then from there throwing and running back up to 18's basket to hole out (not 2's). using 2 would be cool but the gallery wouldn't be able to see the whole event. running all the way up 18 (and crossing the toboggan runs) is no picnic -- i can assure you that :D
the best thing was how quietly and decisively Adam won the event. i think he was sort of given no choice but to compete (probably something like -- "every winner has to do it Adam") :D

Adam, Mike and someone else got the Gold MRVs. There was a total of three made. I think they were of the first or close to the first Discraft Z plastic. It was a Discraft version of an X-out.
Jamie Mosier beat the times of 4 other players
Were the other four in wheel chairs? :o:o:o:o

Actually, Jamie just kept on truckin'. While some stopped or walked.
One guy had a sprained ankle and had bet Jamie that he'd beat him. As he was puking in a garbage can, he found out that he wouldn't even receive a disc, since he didn't beat Jamie. Hysterical!
