Went out to play a couple of Rounds yesterday with a friend I used to go to College with. He brought along his Cousin and another guy to play with us. Well his Cousin and this other dude had been doing shots of Jack Daniels before the Round according to my friend.
I could tell they were buzzing on the first Tee. Well by the third tee their Buzzes were really kicking in. And they started to shotgun Budweiser Tall boys one right after the other from a cooler they had..
It really got out of control. To the point where these two hooligans started to yell "miss it" real loud when I was in the middle of Putting and teeing off !! Can you believe the nerve. My friend chastised his Cousin and this guy a number of times. But they continued to yell "miss it" on all our throws.
On top of this on the back nine the Cousin's friend couldn't hold anymore of that Jack Daniel's he had earlier and threw up all over the **** tee pad and some junks splattered on my KC Roc that I had momentarily taken out of my Bag on the Pad. And I made him clean off with his towell.
The Round finally was over with and the two drunkards were still up to no good as they yelled "miss it" at the top of their lungs to the group behind as they were Putting.
And there was a girl in the group who was fairly well built and top heavy. Well these low lifes started to yelling " ha Dolly Parton lets see how far you can throw that Disc."
Just totally embarrassing!!
And they got an earful from the group but they acted like they had done nothing wrong..
Anyway, it was a miserable round that was really ruined by excessive alchohol.
Anyone else here had problems with drunks on a DG Course ???
I almost killed myself with excessive alcohol. I'll have something to contribute, as-long-as the tone here is 'sober'. ;)
I sounds like a cop-out to some, but what one must remember is that alcoholism is a deadly disease. :(

I love the Buseyisms that came out of the Celebrity Fit Club Season...Busey is one crazy mofo.
On the topic: It sounds like those guys were playing disc golf in order to have a reason to drink. I don't think those guys were playing disc golf to enjoy a round of disc golf.
Personally, I would've refused to play with those idgits. When you are playing casual rounds, the people you play with reflect on you as well. No need to put up with that garbage.

There is certainly nothing wrong with bringing alcoholic beverages to the course, but those dudes were way out of line.
Certainly NOT acceptable, disease or otherwise!
...is it just me, or does friendship 'complicate' things? As in tolerating more nonsense, not making waves?

I dont think alcohol was the root problem here.... sounds to me like these two have some defective DNA .... the alcohol simply amplified what would probably have been [I'm a potty-mouth!]holeish behavior anyway....
you did forget to mention that you tipped them into the creek right.....

I hadn't heard that acronym before...I really can't comment on THAT. I meant serious talk for a serious subject.
....I too, am wondering why the drunks were 'tolerated' an entire round?!? No disrespect meant. I'm sure there was some reason.

We need cart girls on the disc golf course....$1.50 a beer, plus tip
Sometimes my good friends get too drunk that I decline to flip for doubles, and I live for 3 x dubs. I don't enjoy 'babysitting,' nor shouting, esp in my ear with no warning! :(
I seriously would've junked those guys....wait until they were bringing their beer up for a drink. Just as they start drinking, kick to the junk. Solves a whole lot of problems. And it is entertaining if you can get the beverage to come back out through the nose.
Seriously though, a casual round, just leave the bums. Refuse to play with them. During a tourny round, notify the TD and refuse to play with them. If you tolerate such terrible actions and continue to play with someone like that, you are condoning their actions.
....well, even in casual dubs, it's an 'honor' thing not to quit ones' partner. Perhaps some feel similarly about abandoning ANY round?
If you honor finishing a round more than separating yourself from an insulting ****** bag, than more power to you. I just can't see why on earth you would ever want to do that.
I'd still like to hear DISCn's rationale, but perhaps he was just venting, and didn't return for comments.
...did I alrady mention the 'friendship' complication?
What's really frustrating is the 'innocence' factor; where the drunks don't have the ability to recognize how they embarrass themselves/others. I agree the 'cold shoulder' may be the best strategy, but it's, well, cold. :(

I saw something appropriate for this thread the other day - a bunch of guys were playing and one was toting a "Wheely-cool" cooler full of beer behind him. That's just pathetic. I wish they'd have been closer...my camera phone has no zoom whatsoever.
If this sport was more cart-frieldly, I'd consider using a cart and having a cooler on the back to sell drinks to those that forgot them. Maybe that's what he was trying to do...
Yeah, it was more of me being cordial to my friend. I really didn't want to whip his Cousin in front of him. And if I didn't bite my tongue and bear it this would have been the end result. Although looking back it was really being stupid for me to be so indifferent. I guess when Drunks are acting totally silly and sloppy I just try to tune it out.
I'm kind of wierd that way. If it would have been totally sober guys who were just disrespectful a-holes by nature I probably would have gotten in their face.
But once again I just tried to tune these drunk sob's out of my mind and tried to actually make it a mental challenge for me.
To see how high my concentration levels are when distracted by outside variables..
But regardless, it was still an unpleasant round.
Thanks, and I can relate to just wanting to be agreeable. Have you played with the perps, since? I'm not sure there's any value in admonishing past behavior...? It just doesn't register with the ones I have in mind; they may have the 'convenience' of memory loss.
Yeah, I don't plan to play with them again. I'll ask my friend if we play again whether or not these clowns are coming also.
I don't think my temperament could handle another one of these Rounds again !!
Some people also take there Pot smoking and crystal sniffing to far on the course. Sick of all this stuff going on while playing.
I really hate when junkies come out and leave dirty hypodermic needles all over the course, and I hate to watch them use their golf bag straps to tie off thier arms and their minis to mix the stuff and boot up.

Wow, that's taking it a little far on the course....I've seen people get liquored up or Stoned but never seen anything like that...what a shame.

Back on topic: I don't mind people smoking their dope on the course as long as children aren't around. I guess being a past smoker I don't think it's a bad thing. I really don't see how people drink beer while playing, if I drink a couple beers I want to relax, not walk 4 miles.

sometimes its nice to have a kick back round and have a coldy while playin. for me, i play like a s s tho when i drink....makes sence... alcohol takes away your coordination and balance, and arent those like two main factors when you play? i always want to shoot great, therefore i try to not "drink and drive"
id rather have a cold beer after the round, when i've earned it, and sit there and bs with the people i shot with.
the casuals at my home course definately take the drinking way too far on the course, you know this when there are broken glass bottles on every tee pad.
for as much as i am there, i rarely see it hapeneing. the one time i witnessed it, i made the douch bag clean it up and apologize.

Actually, during a tourney, I interrupted a player smoking a little rock! Of course, I didn't know until one of the players on my card turned the corner, smelled it and freaked. We figured he was right when we saw the chucklehead (crackhead) throwing his bag against a fence after going OB. I can't really see that helping, but I guess it takes all kinds.
And no way did I make that call! I didn't want to have to deal with that guy anymore. Especially in the lot afterwards.
Yeah,

I agree that drinking and pot smoking can get a big out of hand on the course. However, I'd like to make a point/ask a question about pot smoking.
What if I'm playing a tourney in cali and I'm legal to smoke pot in cali. How do the PDGA rules apply to this?
I understand not being able to smoke anything due to fire danger, not taking any illegal drugs, or not smoking anything in the general area of players/kids. But what if I compare me taking my meds to a player taking a prescription drug for a cold on the course. Both are legal drugs from my point of view and should be allowed if not abused for an advantage.
Any comments?
P.S. Drinkers play slow, burners play fast, and tweakers tweak. No meth or rock should be tolerated anywhere.

The technically correct answer is that it is not legal in California, it is just not illegal under California law. Your possession remains illegal under Federal law. So you are still engaging in an illegal activity and subject to mandatory disqualification under Rule 804.05(A)(4).
tbender
Sep 20 2005, 01:00 PM
Isn't it only legal to smoke in your home (or other specified places)? I thought in public it was still illegal, regardless of prescription.
You have courses over 28,000 feet long in Indiana??
:DActually. 4 miles is 21,120 feet.
George Wilson is 5483 feet. Just over 1 mile. When you're as bad as me you tend to go side to side, not straight :)
Plus we normally play 2 rounds, so yes, I'd say in a given day I walk 4 miles.
Either way, there is no way I could drink beer & walk even one mile. But then again, I'm an old man right? (33)
Beer is for fishing. :D
I had to quit smoking pot (job) but I don't care if people do (again, as long as no children are around)

where does it state that federal laws takes precedence over state laws. thanks...
ummmmm...federal laws DO supercede state laws. Actually, I think it reads more like 'state laws can't conflict with the Constitution' or some such nonsense, but over the last few decades the federal gov't. has pretty much made their case, and overrun any state laws that conflict with federal. That's why they came into CA and started arresting people. Not here to say it's right for them to do that, but it IS the way it's been done. Federal law is the law of the land, and supercedes state law, at least in their interpretation.
gnduke
Sep 21 2005, 04:34 PM
804.5 does not have any reference to city/state/federal laws. It merely states "in violation of the law and park regulations".
If it is illegal by US federal law, it is violation of the law anywhere in the US.
" where does it state that federal laws takes precedence over state laws. thanks..."
Yeah, Brakel and the rest are right. Its totally legal by the State of California to use prescription Marijuana for medicinal purposes.
But not legal by Federal Laws. So in otherwards if you have terminal colon cancer and you are smoking a fat one to lessen your pain in the comfort of your own home in Los Angeles. And DEA or a Federal Marshall happens to walk by and sees you doing it thru the window and smells it , he can put you in handcuffs and charge you with simple possession right then and there or even worse if you are growing it. This is regardless if you show him
a legitimate Prescription from an licensed California medical doctor !! I saw 20/20 a few months ago and California people were complaining about how the Feds could at anytime raid these
state legal medicine shops that allowed terminal ill patients with marijuana prescription to come in and buy their "medicine"
and smoke it right there. They grow the stuff there with state permission and with a state license but the Fed says its illegal and can come in there anytime without notice and charge all these people with serious felonies .
Thats pretty pathetic. Your 85 lb. body is being ravished by Cancer and the **** federal police is throwing your ***** in jail just because you wanted a reprieve from the pain by smoking a hooter in your last few remaining days of Life.
Incidentally, Iam not a pot smoker .I stick with beer and vodka but I must say on the whole , pot is physically less destructive on the body than frequent Drinking . No question !!
.
otherwards? That is the strangest spelling I've ever seen. IN OTHER WORDS. OTHER WORDS (Jeezus)
Oh yeah, pot is harmless on the surface but it leads to bad musical taste, like Neal Young and Rusted Root, and laughing at jokes that are not funny or just a tiny bit funny but you laugh like it's the funniest thing you ever heard. You find yourself listening to and believeing the sensitive New Age lameass crap they spew at workshops and you believe that all men are bad, all heterosexuals are bad, all mainstream foods are poison, and you believe all that pseudo-science babble about free radicals and antioxidants.
Basically it ruins your mind and turns it to mush.

Okay kids. You know the arguement has gone on long enough when you are making fun of spelling errors.
FWIW, DR takes his drinking very seriously. But, as far as I know, not on the course. :)
Lately poker is in fashion here; add alcohol and that's a LOUD combination! A group here had to be admonished yesterday by the teen-aged leader of a Jr. High cheerleading squad [which practices nearby], squeaky-voiced & pink-pom-pom'd-and-all; that's how embarrassing it can get! :o:(

Quote "the casuals at my home course definately take the drinking way too far on the course, you know this when there are broken glass bottles on every tee pad."
Nothing pisses me off more than this. I recently pulled out over two cases of old beer/water bottles, empty packs of smokes, and other misc. crap from my home course. Its' managed to stay relatively clean since then but there's always another yahoo on any given day with ZERO respect for the park or the game.
I'd like to sling my Wraith straight into their necks at high velocity. But I'd get in trouble for that.
But I'd get in trouble for that
Only if you get caught. :)
Just remember not to put your name on the disc & let 'er rip.
Our local courses trash cans are evident that there is excessive drinking on the courses, but at least they have the decency to throw things away. Rarely do you find littered (<-is that a word?lol) or broken glass/cans around the course. As long as they keep it clean, I don't care what goes on.
I think our parks do a good job of keeping many trash cans throughout the course, so I'm sure that helps.
So good job Indiana DG'ers. Drink up. :D
"Only if you get caught"
Good point!
My course has about 5 trash cans overall. I think the stuff I picked up had been collected over many many moons. Still, some of these yahoo's can't seem to make it to a trash can. I don't mind the drinking myself, just don't like the disrespect for mama nature.

at hudson mills, you have to be picnicing to be drinking. so in other words, you must be at a picnicn table. this rule most often gets broken. yesterday i wittnessed an old man who appeared to be a bum get arresseted by hole D on the original. he did look a little loaded, but he was at a picnic area. the cops even took his bike. i kinda feel sorry him.
There is only one Garbage can on my course, and its at least 50 feet off of the actual path. There is definatly visible trash on the course, and im not trying to pass blame or anything, but no one is trying to stop it. having one garbage can on the ajacent soccer field, nothing even on the course, isnt helping.
i dont care what people are doing when they golf, as long as they are responsible enough to not cause trouble and pick up their trash. me and my friends like to have fun every once and a while too, but we respect the courses and fellow golfers enough to clean up after ourselves and not cause any trouble.

His head was lying on top of the backrest tho, it looked so uncomfortable, he had to be p1ss drunk. He did look so peaceful tho. No one has even mentioned how unproffessional this is in a sanctioned tourney. I think I've only played one PDGA tournament without seeing drinking and pot smoking during the round. Could you imagine Tiger Woods tokin up between holes? Or even Rasheed Wallace rolling a joint on the bench during a game? I really don't care if members of my group smoke pot in a casual round, but if this sport is to be taken seriously, we need to act that way in our tournaments.

I think that people should take it a little more seriously if they want the sport to grow. Do what you want in casual rounds, but leave it all at home during the tournament. Maybe if the stakes were a little higher, they would take it more seriously. Until we as a whole treat it like a real sport, nobody else will.

A can on every hole or every other hole woild be great. Maybe the local club or mini could help the course with that. That would help the DGers that do pick up the cans and bottles. There will allways be some pukes that can't hit the can but that will give them the option to puke in the can or the tee pad!!
you can really tell who cares at my course because they can be found picking up trash between holes. i have actually taken a garbage bag before and just cleaned for a half an hour. unfortunatly its messy by the next time i get there the next day. i dont think its the stoners or drunks that do it though. its just those select few people who dont care about the environment or the park.

I've got to admit to tipping a few while playing, but I agree that it sometimes goes too far for some players. I've played rounds with overintoxicated golfers before, and the only thing that makes it tolerable is the fact that a little cash was wagered on the round's outcome.
A $$$ side bet can work wonders in getting overindulgers to clean up their act, or pay the price for their decision to overindulge.
On a side note, some of the funniest stories are born out of playing a round with drinkers. But then again, I have a strange sense of humor. Seeing someone sit down on the tee pad for "a rest", then seeing them tip over backward into a creek...in the middle of February? Priceless.

I don't think the alcohol alone was the problem. I regularly play with a couple of guy's who drink excesively while playing, but they never present a problem. Alcohol just magnifies the users personality, and gives them "false courage". Those guy's were just jerks, and I don't think I would play with them, sober or otherwise. I don't think the alcohol is to blame anymore than the gun is to blame in a shooting. It's the user that is to blame!
