Ok....
There divisions that cover the juniors(different age divisions)
Then there is Recreational which is MA3. This is supposed to be for the people that are just starting out playing disc golf and those that have a rating below a certain value.
Next you have Intermediate Amateur. You need to have better skills and you can play this division as long as your rating is below 915.
Then is Advanced Amateur. If your rating is above 915, you have to play this division. You need to have decent distance, and be able to make consistant throws and minimalize the mistakes.
Then there is Open(MPO). No rating distinction to force you to play pro as long as you don't accept cash. If you accept cash you have to be below a certain rating to be able to move back down to Advanced. You have to be pretty **** good and make very few mistakes the entire weekend.
Then once you get old enough there are the masters, grand masters, legends, etc.

So then since i will be playing my first pdga tourn soon i will have to play rec since i dont have a rating yet
No, you don't have too! But that's likely your current ability-level, and where you would be expected to compete....good luck!

But that still counts as a amature division right because thats what my pdag card says on it.
You can still enter to play with the Pros [if it's a Pro/Am], but that's usually twice the amount to enter, or more. What you CAN'T to is accept $$ and remain a Pro. Neither can you play ANY age-protected division before your 'time'. ;)

best advice.....
go find a pro or the TD at the tournament.
Tell him your average score on the course and he should be able to help you pick the correct division. It takes a few tournaments to find out your place, but I'm asuming you would either play recreational or intermediate.
Then is Advanced Amateur... You need to have decent distance
Well, I guess I should sign up for intermediate again at the Sneeky Pete! :D

Heres my thoughts on the divisions....
Recreational - New to the game - looking to get a feel from what a tournament atmosphere is.
Intermediate - Understanding of a tournament atmopshere and some knowledge of the rules - skill level is low, but improving.
Advanced - Probably the division with most diversity of skill levels - Advanced golfers have usually been playing a while and / or are shooting decent scores consistently and great scores every now and then. Most advanced golfers have the game to play pro, but just have minor thing to work out (inconsitency is the main thing, but it could be things like trouble on tighter courses, putting, distance, etc.)
Pro - the top players in the game. Most pros dominated the advanced ranks at some point in the disc golf career

Justin play MA2 (Intermediate) Based on what I know of your game compared to mine I would say your rating is probably going to end up around 850-870 once you finally get some rated rounds.
Glad to see you weathered the storms and are safe.

Aye thats why I was comparing my game to yours since I have played in many of the tournaments you have been in and I have played in the same group as you before in the SNDG events.
MOre importantly have fun and when you do finally get a rating from playing PDGA events then you'll know for sure where you should be. I would venture to guess you'll have the most fun in MA2(Intermediate)
