I figured I shouldnt hijack the Glide thread asking about this. I'm looking for a midrange in premium plastic that will be understable out of the box. There are a lot of midranges I've seen but havent tried at all. Coyote? Glide? Breeze? Cobra? Panther? It needs to be significantly more understable than my SB Roc or it isnt going to have a place in my bag.

The Glide is too unpredicatable for me in any sort of wind.
I played a round with just a Coyote, a Comet and a Cobra this weekend to see which I liked best. It's still a toss up between the Coyote and the Comet. I'm going to carry both for a while until one of them becomes the clear favorite.

It depends on what sort of understable shot you're looking for.
Stratus gets to be really understable once it's beat up. You need to toss it with like 20 degrees of hyzer to keep it from turning into a roller. Out of the box, I'm pretty sure anyone could turn it over though.
The breeze is understable as well, but I find that, to get distance with it, it's borderline on too much arm speed for the disc to handle. This is a great understable mid range for shorter (150 footish) shots.
The glide is my favorite disc in my bag. Even though I carry 2 buzzzs and 1 wasp, I still throw my glide more than the other 3 combined. It has a hint of flippyness, but, as it's name suggests, it has a TON of glide. You can throw it 200-300 feet easily without having to worry about it hyzering out early on you. I find I get my best results with this disc at around 80% arm speed with extra spin. If the wraith has a speed of 11, this thing has a glide of 11.

I guess thats what I'm going to have to do... Just get a couple of them and try them out for a while. Which of the ones mentioned is the most understable? Only champion or Z plastic.
In my opinion there is no other disc on the market that can touch a Champ Panther out of the box. This disc is an untold secret weapon. If you get it. You won't be disapointed. If you are then I will buy it from you :D

Have you ever tried an "E" Element? They fly just the same, but a touch more glide. THESE are the best kept secret...I just started throwing them again this weekend and they saved me a number of times.
When thrown high and hard they hold a nice floaty turnover and when finesses with a touch of hyzer, they go 250'-300' on a frozen rope!
Call Gateway's shop and get a few in the "E" plastic...they won't dissapoint and Justin will show you why Gateway has the #1 customer service in Disc Golf!

DTree, the Comet or the Glide I threw were the most understable of those. I took the Glide out of the bag back in Jan or Feb so the info isn't as fresh. I've never thrown a Breeze but it should be even more understable than these.
They all feel different your hand so that might be something for you to consider also.
I like my Cobra's. Nicely understable, easily controllable anhyzer lines, or flip over shots... rolls nicely too.
too many tree hits and the dx gets too flippy. I just ordered a champion cobra off of ebay ... as a bonus it's dyed by Dr. Dye. I can't wait until it gets here.

Fo rizzle!
Throw a Glide...Of course it is inconsitent into the wind, any understable mid will be. Here's a tip, don't throw understable mids into the wind Lou.
Now, about this Glide...It is long, turns right when I want it, goes straight when I want it, can be put on a hyzer line if you really want too (by why do that, when you can throw a Buzzz for this shot). They feel great in your hand. Throw a Glide. You know you want to.
Oh, and another thing, why on earth would anyone ever want to throw an understable mid in non-premium plastic? I always am dinging up my mids way worse than my drivers.

Because some people would like to be able to grip the disc. When it is 105 degrees, a wide rimmed, Z disc can be slippery on a sweaty hand.
Good point Mr. Robert James Ritchie. I guess I just don't use any wide rimmed discs for approaches, and I live in a dry area, so I have a different view of the situation.

All discs do not react to the wind the same way. Discs with more float (or glide) are more affected. For the Glide I had, even a slight wind seemed to change the flight dramatically.
Ahh...I have had a different experience with my Glide. I actually throw my Glide equally when there is a wind and when there is not. I just have to be a little more careful with what I am trying. For example, the Glide may replace where I would normally throw my putter if there is a wind.
I don't mean to offend. Hey, what happened to your pants on fire avatar. I loved that one...

And I can't stand X plastic. It feels ok if its brand new and there isnt any dirt or moisture anywhere on the disc or your hands... But I find that they slip out of my hand way more often than i'd like.

That is odd. I think X plastic has more grip than Z or D! Personal preference.
I agree about the feel of x plastic; if I could keep from hitting every tree on the course, I would throw them exclusively.

I had an X-Crush that I absolutely couldnt throw. It came out of my hand early probably 1/3 of the time. Really weird. I dont really like discraft plastic generally, until it is very beat. It definitely feels slicker than Innova or Gateway plastics, to me.
Gateway plastic is definately grippier than the x. Mine do not seem that slick though. But they beat fast, normally causing me to seek the z alternative.
I currently have a z avenger for hyzers and x avenger for straight to turnover shots. I figure if it gets to understable, I can hyzer flip it.
The best plastic around = Innova, in every form. The best turnover midrange disc, a beat in ROC.

I like your enthusiasm but that is naive to act like Innova makes the only good discs.
Educate yourself.
What's 'midrange' to you Bob, 325'>>>450'? :D
I'll take an Aero 96% of the time...a low-ceiling shot being about the only exception. I rarely exceed 350' with a "blade", but can hit 260' with an Aero; that's plenty, relatively.

Well put...Innova is where they are for a reason, but today Discraft and Gateway make just as good of discs, and I still don't think anyone has a disc that even touches the Spirit!
Oh yeah, and to stay on topic...get yourself an "E" Element!!!

I've found my Panther to be a secret weapon as well. I never used it, then one day I discovered it's secrets! My old Raven is my best understable disc however. It's an outstanding roller too.

While you're at it, get yourself an E Element-X. Once you've tried throwing that baby on a slow, controlled annie line ... you never will again.
Hell of a stable midrange though!

I use my E Elements for straight an anhyzer shots. With a little hyzer on it it will flip up to flat and fly really, really straight and thrown hard flat or a bit anhyzer it will hold a good anhyzer line. I don't think they're really all that understable, though, but the lack of fade makes them easy to throw anhyzer.

Good point...you can also throw them hard as hell with hyzer REALLY high and get a cool arse 300'ish flight before they crash hard left....interesting shot to have sometime when you're in trouble.

So... I played in a tournament yesterday and had a chance to check out several discs that other people were kind enough to let me throw. I dont think I like discraft, in general. I know they are quality discs, but I just dont like the way their plastic feels. Even though I could get the glide to do what I wanted, it just didnt feel like I had a good enough grip on it. I ended up taking away a good number of discs in winnings, and picked up a Champion Shark and a Coyote. The Shark is VERY similar to how my SB Roc flies. I liked how the Coyote holds anny lines. It is basically just a dead straight stable disc, so when you start it off anhyzer it just keeps going that way. It makes a little bit of an effort to come back, but not much. So, I think I am going to drop my beat KC Roc out of my bag for the Coyote. I like the way my Roc flies but it is so beat I think it flies differently with every passing week. Now I am using a SB Roc for straight to hyzer over 280 or so, Coyote for anhyzer, KC Aviar for just about anything under 280, and a champ whippet for big doglegs under 300.
I use a shark for shots like these but its not very understable. An Avier PA works well too

I'm pretty sure the "S" elements, especially around 170 work quite well as a turnover mid-range right out of the box.
They may need a little time to break in before they will turn a whole lot when thrown slow, but unlike the E they WILL break in to become more understable.

I'll second that ... S Element will hold a beautiful anhyser line, especially after a very short break-in period. I REALLY like the glow S Element for this shot.
