Well, its official. The move is complete, things are settling in, so the new priority is to find the best place around me to play some disc.
The course directory is of some use, but I was hoping to elicit opinions from the folks in the know around here.
I'm located near Lake Hopatcong, right off I-80. Most courses in the directory are around 30 miles away. There are several at this distance. Which would be most highly recommended (Please list in order of preference)?
I'm looking foward to playing some local minis and monthlies, so if anyone would like to reply to the thread, or PM me, I would be most grateful.
Golf come heck or high-water this weekend! Just tell me where I should play.
(Guess I should change my sig now, huh?)
Thanks for the DL.
Peace

Website (http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com) in the works. I am hoping to have the course pages done this fall. We have doubles at Warwick on Tuesdays at 6:00.
Thanks for the invite, Jamie...(you smart-arse).
I don't think I'll be able to make it today...lol.
Hope you're all doing well, brother. give my regards to the pack.
How many usually show for dubs on Tuesdays at Warwick?
Do you all ever run minis or dubs on a weekend day? Might there be any interest in random doubles on Sundays?
Thanks for the information everyone. If any of you see a bushy-bearded stranger in the woods off of the fairways, come say hello and help me find my disc!
Peace

Check out the forum on the website. Warwick dubs has a thread (http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=23&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) that shows results and how many peeps. Same goes for Buzzy's (http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=22&start=0) and Campgaw (http://www.nynjdiscgolf.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=124) .
thanks. i did see the threads after poking around on the site some.
also, lung, I have seen your site as well. nice reviews. I also noticed that there are a number of NC courses there. If you're ever down near charlotte again, you should check out Ramcat ridge and Yadkinville Park, both in Yadkinville, NC. Both are superior courses by any standards.
Thanks all. I hope to be out flinging some plastic this weekend!
If anyone wants to show me around any of the aforementioned courses, please drop me a PM.
Mushanks!
Peace
Crap! I forgot to ask about Wolfe Woods. Where is it? Its not in the course directory? New course? details?

This weekend. (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=421723&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) Awesome course. Not far from you. Great tournament. Go if you can.
Wolfe Woods is at The Warwick Town park in the woods behind the Animal Course. It is not complete and I haven't been back there in a while. I don't even know if it is playable at the moment. We plan on working on it this fall. It will be awesome when finished.

Sounds like you've fallen in a nest of golf Steve. Just walked in from the Weds. Ramcat dubs round - Bryant, Eddie, Senator Glenn, Dave and Patrick. Some fun golf, starting to get dark early though, had to bail out on #18. Not enough light. Do not come south without hollering. Throw 'em straight my friend.
Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
I had a great time at Campgaw and Buzzy's last week.
I'm planning to make it to Warwick this weekend.
One other question re: this geographical area. What retail stores sell golf discs, and who has the best/largest stock/selection in the NY/NJ area? (I'm looking for physical locations, not online stores...thanks).
Jeff, I met a friend of yours at Campgaw last week. I'm hoping to make it down your/his way before it gets too cold up here in the tundra...lol.
If anyone is up for some golf at Warwick this weekend, drop me a PM. I don't know how hard it is to follow, but I need someone to show me the local routes!
Peace, ya'll.

Steve, whom did you meet, Brian Gunkel?
Once you've played all your local courses, get yer butt down to Pennsylvania. The world class courses at Nockamixon State Park, Tinicum Park, Tyler State Park, Little Lehigh Parkway, and Jordan Creek are waiting for you.

I just got back from Buzzy's doubles and we discussed that we are not going to have the last Warwick doubles on Tuesday as planned because of no daylight. We are going to be having doubles at Warwick on Sunday's at 10:00 now. Hope to see ya there.
Yeah, Brian was his first name. Poor guy was in bad shape from his respiratory distress. That didn't stop him from flinging plastic though!
I very much intend to get that way before this winter. I am hoping to make a weekend out of it, and hit all the major courses in the area in one fell-swoop.
I will be sure to give you notification, as I'm hoping to get up with some locals to show me the courses and local-routes.
Thanks!
Warwick doubles at 10:00 AM Sundays.
I thought I read of an informal gathering of the tribe on Sun. mornings at the Gaw.
I wonder if we could drum up some interest for Random Dubs at the Gaw on Saturdays instead?!? ...hmmm...anyone?...Bueller?

One final note. Warwick S-S is the closest to the Yadkinville,NC layout as I have seen. I even shot my best round score my first time out at Warwick S-S yesterday. (S-L was a different story...). Would anyone else who's played both courses (ie. NC touring players) concur?

It's been a long time since I played Yadkinville (tone poles) but I recall the terrain being like Warwick. Yadkinville was one of the more open layouts I recall in NC. Warwick seems a little more completed in terms of amenities like shelters, restrooms and play equipment but the Yadkinville site could certainly be farther along since the early 90s.
It certainly is very different than it was with the tone poles, Chuck.
When they installed baskets, the course layout was modified. There are many challenging woods holes there now. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to get up there the next time you're nearby. Cedarrock park is much more open than the current Y'ville setup. The second Y'ville course, still being engineered, is downright primitive (similar to the new course at Warwick.)
The basic amenities are there now, and the space is "dedicated" to DG, which is nice. Quite a bit of manicuring has been done there in the last 1.5 years.
I agree that the terrain looks very similar. You can be in a hilly, hardwood forest anywhere from N. Georgia to S. Maine, and it all looks very much the same! Quite interesting...
So, a little birdie told me that somewhere out in the sticks of the Kittatinny Mountains, some dedicated soul has put in a private course, complete with baskets.
Anyone heard of this, or know someone who knows someone? I'm just surprised that the locals didn't mention it.
nevermind...
just a dood with some baskets on his farm...
