Hello? Predator???

Sep 05 2005, 11:25 PM
Teebird.. Probably the most controllable distance driver ever made.. Not a long distance driver although many top pros can throw them further than most can throw orcs.. Best known for their control. I simply love my 11x KC pro Teebirds.. Great plastic and great mold on those. That's why i have 13 of them :)

-Scott Lewis

p.s. Second PIck would have to be the Avenger or Starfire.. Although i really don't throw highspeed drivers for my main drives i have an X-avenger that i throw for Hyzerflips and roller and i have a Starfire that i toy with sometimes and i can get a little more D with them than with my Teebirds..

Sep 05 2005, 11:46 PM
I went with the orc (champion) because it is useful in calm and windy situations. I also love the flash but find it ineffective in the wind. The champion orc is basically a go to driver for any condition. The crush would be there too if they didn't vary so much from disc to disc. I literally have seen some crushes that fly like monsters.

I love Spirits...no wind can ever touch these things! They have the same predictable flight no matter the conditions and can be BOMBED on some big hyzer lines!!

I'm going to have to go with the Viking. The Champion is great for any straight shot and the DX reminds me of a faster Leopard when it gets beat in.

Sep 06 2005, 02:16 PM
I vote for the Spirit or Tsunami.

Sep 06 2005, 10:24 PM
Yes,
I would have to agree with Orc Lover. The Orc is one of the most versatile Drivers ever.
Great in calm and windy conditions. And great hyzer shots for around the corner right to left long shots.
Although open drives I would give the edge IMO to 172g Champion Sidewinder. It really holds the line in calm conditions.

While I really like my champ orc, versatile is not a word I'd use to describe it. It is very fast. It holds up to a headwind reasonably well it can go really far even with a low ceiling. On top of that it also skips very well.

However I find it difficult to use as a controlled turnover because it doesn't have the glide of the leopard, flash, teebird, qjls or starfire. I find it rather low speed overstable which causes it to fall off it's line the last 60-80 feet of it's flight.Because of this characteristic it's ill fitted for straight at pipeline shots.

I do like the orc for certain shots but the five discs I just mentioned fit the criteria for the term "versatile" much better.

For my throwing style a beat up Teebird, SE Leopard or Flash seems to be more of the go to driver for the controlled "shape your shot" flight I am looking for in a workhorse driver. I do understand though that I'm an old school player that throws with a hyzer release so your mileage may vary.

Sep 06 2005, 11:40 PM
I'd have to agree.. ALthough the Orc is the "best driver in the world" by many It's not a Controlled Driver.. It's a distance driver and has allt he pros and cons of a highspeed distance driver.. I find it to be very touchy. I'd rather throw a teebird 380 on a string then Throw an Orc 420 and 70 feet off to the left or right.

The beast all the way.

Sep 07 2005, 01:21 AM
The Best driver made today, The Teebird hands down. I can always trust the Teebird to do what I want, easy to control, and gives me plenty of distance well over 430 feet. It's not the longest driver made, but it is the best for me.

Have to agree with John.
A best driver poll without Predator doesn't qualify as a poll.

The XPreds are the favorite mold I've thrown.

Sep 07 2005, 02:43 AM
I second the eagle being included. Not as good for some shots as teebird, but its been working really well for my nose down torqueless hyzer flips lately (rare, but happens most with the eagle) and I here its more versatile than the teebird too, great for sweep hyzers too. Both of those need to be beat dx of course : ).

I think the Orc is the best (when looking at reliably controlable distance) mega-distance driver. I feel comfortable throwing it with a tight fairway (20-40 feet) when lots of distance is needed. Yeah, that's not a super-tight fairway, but when you need to throw it 400'+, that disc stays straight almost the entire flight, and predictably so. I've tried many other discs that aren't as predictably.

I have been using a glow candy eagle L lately for dead straight drives (not so much D needed), and I'm really loving it for those. So when I definitely need straight (over distance), I'd have to go with that. I'd rather have seen check boxes instead of the radio button so we could see how many people like each disc.

seems obvious to me--dx teebird. this is the disc with the most resistance to hi speed turn with the least amount of low speed fade. that is the magic equation for a driver in my opinion

Jeterdog makes a very good point. There are drivers for BIG D, and then there are drivers for shorter, control shots.
I use a Pro Starfire, Orion, or Sidewinder for my max distance shots, but when it comes to short CONTROL drives the Eagle,Teebird, Leopard rule for me.

I forgot about the DX Teebird. It is one heck of disc.

It's funny that you say that...
I am the hugest fan of the Teebird.. I have about 13 11x KC Teebirds and yet i've never thrown a DX teebird.. That's like sacrilege or something...
I'll have to pick one up next time I get over to a tourney.

Definitely the orc. If the orc had been around as long as the teebird, it wouldn't even be close. I can get a little bit better distance out of a sidewinder, but they are quite fickle. A little bit of wind and they are practically useless. All you need in the wind is a heavier orc.

orc is not nearly as predictable as a dx tee. has a lot of low speed fade also. but, as far as the super fast drivers go--it is one of the best imo.

IMHO Teebird for straight and predictable flight, Orc for long hyzer shots, and SE Leopard or Sidewinder for long turnover shots. The Wraith will be changing some people's minds about long straight shots! Thanks Innova!!

Sep 09 2005, 03:31 PM
The best driver I have right now is my x avenger; the only problem is how quick it beat in. I have a z avenger, but rain has not allowed me to throw it yet.

My pro starfire was a bit longer than the avenger, but it started flipping too soon.

Agreed !!! The teebird in any plastic is the best all around driver. I have used a Orc, but the predictability is not there, it is faster and longer, but that is not the most important thing for me. What sells me on Teebirds is the fact that they do the same thing every time. They are like throwing a good roc, but alot further. I will take a little less distance, rather than more distance and less control any day.

You will like it. Limit yourself to where you throw it though as the DX plastic beats up really quick. The DX teebirds do have alot more carry and glide than the champion plastic, and they dont tail off much at the end of their flight.

What is a driver that goes straight and far?

Sep 10 2005, 11:24 AM
Well that's a little dependant on how far/fast your throw...

For people that throw over 300 I'd probably Say a Champion Teebird will Be Pretty Straight, but they have a decent amount of Low Speed fade.
a Champion Leapord for slower arms will be dead straight as it doesn't seem to have much fade.

NOt sure about Discraft and Gateway Drivers as I only throw Teebirds.

Sabre all the way. These go incredibly straight with very little fall off on deceleration. (Sabres have thicker flight plates than most drivers, making them less gyroscopic and therefor straighter.)

Sep 11 2005, 02:49 AM
Dunno if this thread is dead or not, but I mean common what is the best driver is way to general a question. Different types of throwers will throw better with certain discs. What means best? Pure D? Golf D? Consistency, predicatability, versatility? All of the above? Some throwing styles will favor orcs and some will favor teebirds. "What will be the next disc to hold the distance record" is a more interesting question imo.

Sep 11 2005, 02:56 AM
just answer the friggen question however you watn to.. don't get technical about it.. just answer.

I would say the Buzz...even though it's not a driver. My favorite to drive with 'cause I can only throw just above 300' anyway, and that's enough to have fun with.
