Well..................I don't think my handicap will move.
I'm 55 under par for 6 league rounds , with a 9 under handicap.
Maybe if I shot digits , then tanked on purpose , I could be maybe 3-5 under or even 1 under par , going into the last week , then shoot digits all of a sudden and be 12-14 under my handicap , per round !!!! :p
That would be cheating though...............or stealing a win.
For a some , that's the easiest way to beat the handicap system.
Naw , I don't steal wins that way. Never had to.
Had some good subs for the team though , but not rigged.
It's pretty tough to beat anyone head to head when they can shoot as Well as or Better than you with a rigged handicap in their favor. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The second week I shot back-to-back -8, you shot -12 and -9. Don't get mad that I shot -10 when we played you this week while you shot -7. Don't hate on the CARTEL, we came, we saw, we conquered. Not bad considering I was sick. I did not want to DNF on my team. Doctor was checking me for pancreatic cancer that Friday. Had four bogies too. :p

LOOK...I don't know if you're jealous and trying to recapture a bit of your youth by putting others down, but don't start this #$*&$! again. Plus, don't equate your conspiracy theories to Bayside. It has absolutely nothing to do with the facts. The fact IS, Bayside is part of Mission Bay Park, and Mission Bay Park has guidelines regarding organized sporting events. The soccer/volley ball guys have to pay the same permit fees as us disc golfers would if we opted to do so. Maybe you could cough up the dough for permits with all the money you save since you are NOT taking your required medicine.
PS...No one will stop The CARTEL.

That's the bottom end of what a weekend permit for any SoCal course for a tournament costs, so it is actually pretty dang reasonable.
Any of you interested in making a tourney happen at Bayside? It would be a lot of work, so you might not be willing to do it.

I was going to ignore the comment regarding BAYSIDE and the so called controversy. But it is apparent that some of you, through total ignorance have no clue why BAYSIDE is not happening this year.
First and foremost BAYSIDE was not shut down because of pot smoking or any sort of drug use. Secondly, It was not shut down by the police, the Mission Bay Park Management or the Mission Bay Lifeguards. Thirdly Mission Bay Park does not issue permits for any sort of sporting events, except in specific fields (robb field, fiesta island and a few baseball diamonds).
If anyone wants all the information regarding BAYSIDE perhaps you should ask the organizers, or those that did a lot of foot work and face to face with City Officials and Park Managers to try to make Bayside happen. Ultimately the Mission Bay Master Plan does not allow organised sporting events of any kind (this includes practices and actual events).
In my oppinion it is better to follow the rules of the park, then to break them, especially if we hope to get permission to use the park in the future. I believe the organisers of BAYSIDE made a very logical choice of stopping play, as breaking the rules would just give Disc Golf a bad name.
Just my two cents.

How do the 5k and 10k runs get around this?
Do model yacht race events qualify as "sporting events"?
I agree with you about it being better to follow the rules than "break them in the name of disc golf". My original point is that $300 ain't doody for an event permit, and that's how Donny portrayed it. I appreciate the clarification.
In any event, 5k and 10k runs happen in the park. If anyone were interested in running a tourney on a temp course it would probabvly be a good idea to figure out how they get permission if disc golf has been told that "sporting events are not allowed".

I am glad you asked those questions, I had those same questions when I spoke with the Park Manager and also the City Council office that deals with that district. I have been persuing these issue to help the organisers, so that BAYSIDE may be available in the future.
How about the 5K runs and 10K runs? Typically these are held on public streets, countroled by the City, not the Mission Bay Master Plan. Therefore the 5k runs and even the Rock and Roll Marathon, which travels around Mission Bay are approved by the City Council. Specifically Donna Frye's District. Can the Mission Bay Parks Manager allow sporting events in the park in non-designated areas? Yes, but only with a City Council vote.
Do model boat races qualify as a sporting event? That particular portion of Mission Bay was designed for Model Boating and as such they have permission through the Mission Bay Master Plan to be there.
How about the soccer players directly across the street? The soccer players get fined every day they show up. They are willing to pay the fines in order to play there.
As for the $300 dollar permit. Yes you can get a permit for one of the Sports Fields within Mission Bay Park (Robb Field, Fiesta Island, etc...). The area were BAYSIDE is played is not one of these Sports Fields, therefore a permit for a sporting activity is not available. Fines can be issued for participating in an organised sporting event in this area of the park.
It will take many voices to change the Mission Bay Master Plan. Then once the Master Plan is changed the City Council must vote on it. The whole process, if all the chains are followed can take two years.
The questions are being asked of the Manager and the City Council. People are doing the hard work and putting in the effort to try and make this happen. I just hate to see it side tracked cause of mis-information.
Hope that helps clear some stuff up.

Donny,
When the time comes to approuch the City, you can rest assured it will be done correctly.
Volleyball - Already has a designated area in the park.
Soccer - Already has designated fields that can be reserved for a fee
Football - Already has designated fields that can be reserved for a fee
Softball - Already has designated fields that can be reserved for a fee
Kite Flying - Already has a designated area within the park.
Wind Surfing - Has a recommended area
Kite Boarding - Has a recommended area
Sailing - Has a recommended area
Waterskiing - Has a recommended area
Basketball - Already has a designated area
Horseshoes - Already has a designated area
The list could go on.
All this has been looked into. When the time is right and the politics are in place, everyone that needs to be involved will be involved (even other groups). One step at a time.

-1 = $
-2 = $ x 2
-3 = $ x 3
-4 = $ x 4
-5 = $ x 5
-6 = $ x 6
and so on and so on. The $ amount will be determined at the begining of each round. If my score gets your team the win, then a bonus is expected on top of my per round fee. Rock Stars and Ringers don't come cheap!

Gomez needs to ensure that the last week of league matchups are correctly assigned. It seems that there has been some shady scheduling over the last few seasons, but I heard that this week in particular will be specifically set-up to achieve a desired outcome. So if you have a chance to make the finals, lets make sure that we are playing the right teams.

Before he has the joy of telling everyone he knows, I figured I'd spoil it for him:
Bobby Martin beat me yesterday by 7 strokes on one round at Morley Field. He shot a solid -7 and I shot a typical (for me anyhow) even par.
By the end of the round I had thrown three tomahawks. If you know my game at all then this says enough about how bad my round was. LOL
Anyhow, congratulations are in order to Bobby, I'm sure he's going to frame that scorecard!

From what I hear , after the Course Championships are completed , there will be Match Play taking place on Saturday , November 11th , starting at 9:00 am.
This has always taken place because all can not make the Course Championships and still gives a chance for those who want a shot at making the team , even if they play the C.C. Hope that makes sense.
Check with Snapper for more specific details.
The four remaining spots will be filled by Saturday afternoon.

Nothing against Emily, but how did she lock down the women's spot?
Also, holding the meat-grinder during the SoCal Am weekend might keep some ams from stepping up and being added cash at the Course Championships, since a good enough showing to get them into the grinder won't be worth much since they won't be able to attend grinding day. Something to think about.

True , I think she will play the Course Championships and any match play events needed to Qualify for the Womens Open Seed.
If any AM's want to play , they are more then welcome to play in the Open division at the Course Championships.

It does seem like there are a lot of events running into each other. Not that I am at the point where I worry about such things - but it does seem like there are quite a few events in Oct/Nov/Dec and that some overlap...and that it would have been nice to have some of those events in the spring or summer.

Was that the point you were referring to, Rhett?
That the Morley Course Championships typically get quite a few ams playing in the pro division in hopes of qualifying for the Morley team or in hopes of getting into the grinder.
Most of those ams are just added cash for the pros. :)
It's too bad, really, but there are a lot of tourneys in November this year so I guess nothing can be done. Las Vegas Pro weekend, SoCal Ams, and then SoCal Pros fill up the first three weekends, so the Morley CC has to conflict with something.

Something to think about."
Again , not my call on the Grinding date set. One of the reasons is that the Team will be decided on that specific Saturday , November 11th ,The Pro SoCal weekend is the following week , after that is Thanksgiving weekend and alot of players have family obligations then. The week after that is the Team Tournament.
If Any Am's , want to Step up and play Open in the Course Championships , they are more then welcome to.
As Stated on the Flier " ONLY OPEN ENTRANTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE SAN DIEGO TEAM TOURNAMENT TRYOUTS" !!!!!!!!!!
Which , by the way Includes Match Play !!!!!! So............with that being said , it's pretty much " Step Up or Keep Stepping" !!!!
I do not hate AM's , I just want them to play at their next level that they are well capable of playing at. This way the Novice and Intermediate players will Advance and New players will not feel so intimidated about playing in their first tournament Experience.
It's all about Growth for the Sport .................not Stagnating in a lower division for 10+ years !!!!!!!

So , maybe you have a right to be angry because your not really considered Pro material anyway. Just being Brutally honest and upfront here because no one will really say it to your face as you may get upset with the truth. Sorry about that , but it had to be said.
The Team can not Afford someone who DNF's just because the course doesn't Suite them , they don't like or get along with the TD or that they are just playing badly !!!!!
All the players that want to be Team members , are there for a reason. They are the Best in their area's and divisions. It's never a cake walk for me. I have to be on the whole weekend and never give up !!!!!! WORD !!!!!!
Maybe someday like the NorCal / SoCal series , they will allow other divisions , besides Pro to play.

I think Emily is the best woman golfer from Morley. I also think Allison and Brittney are playing pretty darn good lately and should get a shot at her. That's all.
When Donny posted that Emily was already on the team, I guess I should've figured he was full of crap and that nothing had been decided yet. Sorry about that David , I was just trying to get Rhett to play Pro so he would have the option of trying out for the San Diego Team Tournament this year. Only Open players have this Opportunity in the Men's Division.
My Bad if I hit a nerve somewhere. I can be somewhat direct online. Just like in Disc Golf , you can not be afraid to play, ANYONE.
Some can dish the heat , but have a difficult time when the shoe from someone elses foot , just doesn't fit !!!!!
I would have responded sooner as I'm not always online to rip on other folks posts and play Dictator , General Enforcer of Everything Said online.
I was on the course today , doing Volunteer work on my personal time , preparing the course for the local Course Championship this weekend. I don't get paid , but get the satisfaction of having a groomed course for all the players.
I had picked up glass , trash , cigarette debris , newspapers , broken tree branches , brush , leaves and recyclables.
I don't hate Rhett , Ryan or other players that think I'm a ***** online , I do this to push them to the next level of play that they are capable of playing at. If you were ever to play Disc Golf rounds with me in person , you would know I only want you to play your best and encourage you to do so !!!!!!!
Some just don't want to hear it and nobody says anything to them directly, so all the BS continues. Kinda sad ya know.

What would you say about a player who hides out in a lower division to sandbag the easy money when over the past two years their scores would've put them in the money of the Real Division 80% of the time?
Why would someone do that?
What kind of a sandbagger is Donny, anyway? Hiding out in Masters when he is a 989 rated pro that would've cashed in Open in 80% of the tournaments that offered Open that he's played in the last two years. Why does he hide? Is it ego? Is he on a power trip where he just has to be on or near the leader card? Is he afraid to step up and challenge himself? Why doesn't he play with the big boys when he obviously has the game for it?
Donny, why do you hide in Masters and steal the payout from the people that belong there? Did you know that if you would only step up to Open, where you would've cashed 80% of the time over the past two years, then you would make Pro Masters a more attractive division for old guys who are only rated 930-950 and currently have no chance to cash with all the 989 and up rated baggers hiding in that division? Don't you know that your constant sandbagging is keeping other players from turning pro?
Come on you bagger, step up. The stats speak for themselves. 80% over the last two years.
Oh yeah, nothing personal you #$*&$! piece of #$*&$!. I'm just trying to get you to challenge yourself and step up and quit being a bagger.
It's kind of sad how Donny is such a sandbagger yet is always calling others sanbaggers, don't you think?

Hey George ,
I was at the course today raking up on hole # 11 tee and saw Monica Judkins !!!!!!! She was playing with Ed Speakman and Ken. I told her about the Course Championship this weekend , so I hope she plays !!!!! She threw her drive on hole # 11 and almost hit the palm trees long !!!!!!!
I talked Briefly with Micah and he seems more than ready. He was playing with Juan Fierro.
He is going to be tough , as he was practicing till dark.
I hope all the Pro's I had Previously listed play as well as those pre-signed up. That would be close to 40 Pro's !!!!!!!
I'm not sure yet on how many Am's are signed up , but the course will be closed to the general public.
I have a feeling Snapper will pay atleast 5 spots if not more , depending on how many actual players sign up !!!!!
Your design should be ready from the silk screeners and the Team design has been re-worked , again.
I'll be at the course again tomorrow , doing some finishing touches on course maintenance.
It's getting close !!!!!!!
See ya out there !!!!!!

You don't know shit, Donny. I'm not an admin here anymore. Plus, I never edited a post without adding a comment when I was trying to make a difference here.
So bleah on you!
Who else didn't like their stats from San Diego ?
Here's the thing , you can talk to me once your Pro. You seem to know quite a bit for a AM ? How many years have you been playing now ?
I like the way you get around the system to use the word shit.
Why are you scared to play Pro ? Is it a money thing ?
How much Am crap do you need ? Is a power thing to always be on top of weaker players ?
All I'm saying is I think its about time you stepped up to Open / Professional Division play. Do it for yourself and your reputation !!!!!
Oh........................I think Emily is the only Pro women from San Diego that has Cashed in sanctioned events as Pro this year. I'm still trying to think of other Pro/Open Women players from San Diego that would give her some competition.
Here are the ones I know that play Disc Golf in San Diego.
Emily Hardy
Allison Wylot
Laurie Stroh
Megan Stroh She wont play. Mom & Dad will be out of town..PARTY at Rhetts house
Christina Brow
Brittany Breed
Amy Schiller ( Amy Bekken) She would CRUSH all others on this list
Jennifer Griffin World Distance Record Holder...BUT already approved to play for Team Oregon...But we dont need her :D
Amber Clapp
Carrie Gregory
Diana Horton
Jenifer Prows
Mary Lawrence
Monica Judkins
Nenette Agulto
Renee Pierceall
Sarah Anus
Shelley Beckham
Sherri Milam
Susan Carter
Suzi Burr
Tamera Burke
Trisha Nugent
Yvonne Jamison ( I have seen her play in San Diego ) ?
Reanne
Michelle Hackett
Trust me , they all play in San Diego , one time or another.

Sorry for dropping to Donny's level, guys. But I still have questions:
It's a little late to take the hi-road guys. Seems like messages boards are the worst thing to happen to San Diego Disc Golf in a long time
** sniff- Grape Street **
If half as much effort/writing went into "collaborating," we'd already have another course(s) somewhere in this disc golf forsaken city/county; and there'd be less flaming, and maybe more excitement, competition and commradery in this community.
I'm bummed that I can't play (hack) this year, but I still love the buzz this time'O year when everyone is trying to rise up and get noticed, and maybe even challenge the Doriunator. Let's here more about the love for the game.
But hey...that's just my $0.02
Good luck to everyone! I hope each of you represents yourself well.

Just an FYI, the park manager that shut down Grape street now runs Mission Bay Park and a new manager is controlling Grape street. It may be time to talk with the new manager.
I am sure with a little drive and some support from the local players, that a new course would not be difficult to get up and running.

Donny has been on the Team nearly ALL 25 times...You'd figure that a spot would be assured...
Dave Vincent played GREAT last year..whooped me :o:(..and I think went 7-1 or 8-0 overall..that should be an assured spot..
Micah goes without question...He is by far the best player in the region...It wouldnt suprise me to see a boycott..like in the "old days".

This is just false information, Mike.
Snapper's contract with the city is, and always has been to my knowledge, for exclusive concession rites at the disc golf course at Morley Field.
NOT for exclusive rites to disc golf within the city parks system.
The SD city parks department (and even moreso the County Parks Department) has always been gracious and interested to hear my proposals for new courses.
Snapper does not hold exclusive rites to DG in the city, nor has he ever been a deterrent to the expansion of DG in San Diego (well, once*). He has, in fact, put forth much of his own money and energy to help me on more than one of my course proposals (telling me who to contact when I was getting the run around, giving me direct phone numbers, joining me for proposal meetings, giving me solid advice on what the city wanted to know in proposals - based upon his own contracts, technical information about things I never thought of such as the safety hazards of pole hole sleeves, hosting posters and maps at his Morley Pro Shop to my courses... and more behind the scenes that I just don't have time to relate now).
Don't pass on misinformation.
*there was once a group who were putting together a safari tournament at a course in rancho santa fe. They pasted flyers on every bench at morley field without asking permission - Snapper was offended they didn't bother to ask permission and tore them down. Ironically, Snapper still wanted to see a permanent course put into that park and encouraged me and others to try and get it done.

I was waiting for this argument to come up....
:p
Lets break down the "TITLE" of this event....
The "SOUTHWEST Team Invitational".......
The event is held in the "Southwest" kinda like the "Mid-West" that was held at Mike Cousins place in Wisconsin.....That by the way was won by a team from "NORCAL"
The "Southwest TEAM Invitational".......
Self explanitory.....It involves TEAM play.. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
The "Southwest Team INVITATIONAL".......
Theres the KICKER, "Invitational" usually means that you are "Invited" to play REGARDLESS of where you are from... ;)
SOOO with that being said....Put your team together Keith...call Snapper, get on the waiting list of Teams (I think "Central Calif" is the next Team in Rotation), and WAIT YOUR TURN :D
BUT dont finish LAST or you'll have to start ALL OVER again.. :o

Personally, as I have ALWAYS said, Snapper is doing a GREAT thing with Morley...ANYONE who thinks that the "pennies" he charges to play at Morley is too much has NO CLUE. It is still LESS THAN 1/2 of what ALOT of parks charge JUST TO ENTER THE GROUNDS.......
There are certainly some things I would do differently, but its hard to fault the man's efforts or success.

It seems to me...that there is always some sort of controversy over "Who" makes the Team... :p
Everyone has thier own way of picking, I Guess....
Personally, Certain individuals should be "Assured" a spot.
Micah shouldnt have to play for it...not like it matters...
Players with "history" like Donny, You, Tremstra, etc.. should have a spot as well...IMO
In my past ,we (Redwood Empire) had NO method of picking the Team.
I was Captain and I picked it......We could of brought a MUCH BETTER team, BUT then we were more like a "Family"...
The rule was IF you had a losing record THEN you were "Subject" to being replaced.......
OR
If you were deemed "Detrimental" to the Team....ie, Actions unbecoming of Team Member.. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Heres one for your Message board...Redwood Empire STILL has not LOST a head to head match against San Diego EVER...tie breakers dont count :D

Sure, there's always controversy. But if "lack of controversy" is going to be our measuring stick for whether or not it is a good system, then I don't think we'll ever have a system which measures up.
There will *always* be controversy - there are 20 guys or more that want to make the team every year, and most of those 20 are deeply disappointed by the end of November. :-(
Our system is highly objective (you win a big tourney out of town: you are on; you win X number of home monthlies: you are on; you place top three in the course championship: you are on. Top master and top woman in course championship: you are on. Everyone else: meat grinder). There is still a portion of subjectivity in the seeding for the meat grinder (seeded based upon how you played throughout the year and/or the course championship, and some shuffling based on how Snapper wants to fill out the team roster). But, results are still the only way to get on the team - if you win in the meat grinder you are on the team, if you lose in the meat grinder then you are not.

Interesting...San Diego probably has the TOUGHEST criteria for making the Team.... /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Its not suprising that a large number of players want to "defend the home turf" :D

Possible. I have not talked with Snapper since last Saturday.
I may go play at La Mirada tomorrow , as he will be there.
Plus , I need alot of practice !!!! :D
That list does look close to accurate. There maybe some additional names.
The players who were invited , were sent emails / RSVP for grinder sign ups. Snapper would know for sure , who will be playing.
It's possible I may get bumped this year to allow for better players to compete.

I usually start my Bad days with four bongs of some serious green bud , followed up by two lines of tweak. Gotta eat right after though. :p
Two eggs , some toast , english muffin , bowl of Cheerios and Total mix , two cups of french roast coffee and a large glass of O.J.
Start diving down to the course with a fifth of Jack& Coke , well maybe a third of that and try to find a parking spot.

I don't think there is much evidence to back this up. San Diego as a whole have some of the best "out of town" competitors of any region I can think of. We don't have a good variety of courses here to practice, so we have to be good out of town to survive, and we do. Our ability to adapt and mobilize (nearly 40 SD competitors at The Memorial, almost all of which cashed in their respective division with over half of them never even seeing the courses) is pretty close to phenominal as far as I'm concerned.
If you took SD and arranged a team in accordance with skill level (actually take the best overall competitors) I think we could hold steady with ANY other regional team on any course with the possible exception of NC style stickwood golf. In the case of championship course layouts, I think we would dominate in most scenarios.
However, with Oregon's trifecta of Sprague, Jenkins, Feldberg, followed up with Mason and I'm assuming Sexton, Saulter, etc, it will be a tough battle, and the homefield advantage in this instance may prove to be crucial.

I must respectfully lodge my complaint with the newest addition to the Morley Field Disc Golf Course: Montezuma's Pyramid (or is it Montezuma's Revenge?) on hole #5. If you haven't seen it yet, it is a 5 to 6-foot high pyramid structure upon which resides the basket for #5. This week the basket is in the C position (I think). I don't know whether the pyramid will stay there, or will move to other positions. I expect to play tomorrow (Wed.) so I'll take a picture to post.
I have a general aversion to contrived obstacles on DG courses. I think there are more than enough natural obstacles available at Morley to test us - we don't need something silly like this. Please, please, please, rip up the plans that Pete Dye developed for the windmill on hole #8 and the shot through the clown's mouth on #19.

Show us that picture...Im sure we will be playing it in the Team Tourney.

Good addition on 5, still hittable for the ace - straight or skip - but makes you be a bit smarter on the putt. Took a par yesterday when I probably would have been two if it was still on the flat. Should increase the spread.

I disagree about the pyramid increasing the spread, at least among tournament players. I think there will be far fewer 2's, as only those who land very close will risk the wacky putt. Also, some who would have made a run at a long putt and blown by, resulting in a missed come-backer (a 4), will probably now play for the three by running their 2nd shot up against the pyramid.
BTW, my Turbo Twist is a great putting method when you are at the base of the 'mid.

I'm surprised he doesn't have a pin position yet ,of the basket being suspended from the palm trees on hole # 11.
Dang , I should never had mentioned that !!!! :D
Here is what I have heard from different people. I'm Not sure what to believe yet.
Hole # 2 Long left and the one by the parking lot. That could be a OB putt !!!!!!
Hole # 10 on the top of the hill next to the edge. Definitely a dangerous spot. I don't really think that will happen ?
Hole # 11 in the middle of the fairway , just before the palm trees.
Hole # 12 short.
Hole # 15 on top of the hill next to the fence.
Hole # 18 short left making it even higher to putt on the hill , and the short straight position , just past the big fallen eucalyptus tree.
Hole # 19 long.
Some of these may or may not work , but that's what I heard.

Yeah, but the problem is that grass doesn't seem to stand up to foot traffic under a golf basket. Look at all the grass pins at Morley, they typically have a ten foot circular bare patch around the sleeve. I'd be concerned that the grass on the mound wouldn't hold up to the wear and tear.
I was thinking of some kind of low growing ivy or something more durable than grass. I guess it would look funny to have a mound of ivy in the middle of the fairway, though.

I agree. Either way , you would have to put the basket at the other positions for awile until the foundation and growth have matured enough to handle the heavy traffic.

Ivy might hold up in the current configuration. Use the "steps" as "beds". IF, (I understand that is a BIG IF) they take hold, they would eventually grow and hang down and cover the stucture making it a little less an "eye sore". This would also leave steps for footing vs building a mound.

Having finally played the course with the pyramid, I must say I don't understand the point either. Morley field already offers a fair share of elevated putts, uphill putts, downhill putts and level putts. I personally think hole 5 was a much better hole, without the huge eye sore. If the object was to make the hole harder, perhaps move the basket deeper, into the canyon or slightly up the hill. This would force a good drive, a well placed mid and a putt. The pyramids are a distraction and I don't think they add much to the play or the course.
Just my 2 cents.
