What do you look for in a mid-range disc? What is a good mid-range disc? What is a good weight?

Buzzz or a Roc.

This is like the south park episode about voting for either Turd Sandwich or a Giant ******.

No one will agree on this.

But my vote is for the Buzzz.

But voting is not allowed yet.

Rocs for staight to left turning shots (south paw)
Buzz for hysers. Elite Z buzzes get MAD skip for me.

I can never decide so I throw them both

:D

If champ rocs were more readily available and less expensive I would probably ditch the buzz.

...copied from the Buzz Thread...

I've been using a trifecta of approach discs. Fade is the Wasp. Stable is the Millennium Sentinal MF, and turnover is the Innova Cobra. All three discs are very similar beaded rims, so they feel the same in the hand but provide over stable, straight and under stable mid ranges with good control.

The wasp is the longest of the three discs, and I will pull it out instead of a driver on short holes, or where control is more important than distance. I have better placement ability with this disc than any other I've thrown.

... after writing that yesterday, I went to my local course this morning and carried these three discs, and a putter. Threw one of the best, most controlled rounds I had recently. I honestly wondered why I have so many drivers when I got back to the truck.

In midranges I look for:
1. Feel in the hand. If it doesn't feel right in my hand, I won't even try it.
2. Consistent release. I want a disc that comes out of my hand the same everytime.
3. I tend towards premium plastic (Z, Champ, E for Gateway). I tend to throw my mids when I am in funny lies, or tight fairways, so they tend to get beat up quickly in subpar plastic.
4. Slow fliers with predictable finishes. I do make an exception with my Glide...I love this disc, but it is long and sometimes finishes funny.
5. Prettiness factor. My mid ranges are some of my more pretty discs. Not really a buying factor, but it is.

I think Gateway, Innova and Discraft all have good mid ranges depending on your needs. My top choices from each: the Element and Element-X from Gateway. Innova's Roc, and Gator (my meathook overstable mid of choice right now). Discraft's Wasp, Buzzz, and Glide (overstable to understable).

I have no experience with the Coyote, but from all indications it is similar to the Glide.

I tend to throw mid ranges at or near max weight. Even though my drivers are all between 168-173, I want the weight in a midrange.

I throw 3 buzzs and a wasp:

1 174G D Wasp that's beat and I can throw long and straight. Flys a lot like the DX Roc I used to throw.
1 177G Z Wasp Mold Buzzz. It Flys same as the D Wasp.
1 177G Z Buzzz Mold Buzzz. It Turns over gently when released straight and level.
1 176G Crystal Buzzz. Flys straight then Hyzers out. Flys like the D Wasp did when new.

People ALWAYS ask me why I carry the Wasp and the Buzzz that fly the same. It's nice to have some D Plastic in the bag during the rain.

On top of that, my mids are:

1 174G Ace Race Redish Glide. I'm gonna dye this like a poker chip because I only seem to use this if there's a crazy high risk/reward anne shot.
1 171G Breeze. It's flippy as a stratus, but has the glide of a putter. Being pulled because I carry a stratus and an extra putter.
1 175G Z Hawk. Straight as my Wasp Buzz, but no skip or slide to this.
1 177G D Drone. When it has to go left at the end. No ifs ands or buts about it.
1 175G Medium Wizard. Inside 150 feet, there's nothing better.

Yes, I carry more mids than drivers. Mids are what make or break your game. If the shot requires a shoe-string line with a driver to get you into birdie range, you can probably hit the gap with a mid range anyways. If the gap is far enough away that you can't get a mid there, you should probably be rethinking throwing a driver.

My experience was that the coyote has a touch more low speed fade, but they felt the same in the hand, so it may have been that the coyote was new.

I have 4 Mids in my bag right now and will definitly be adding more. I seem to do much better when throwing them in a round rather than a driver.

I carry 2 Z buzzz's and used those almost exclusively until they started blending into the yellowing grass.

I also carry 2 S Element-X's and have to say they are just as reliable as my buzzz's if not more so.

i never found the buzz to be very reliable. maybe it was the thrower and not the disc.
i started throwin teh element and i find that to be a whole lot more reliable... on teh course and when i practice.
i take out 10 mids and throw 100 practice shots.... the element lands where i want it to everytime...i cant get that consistency with anything else.... roc, buzz, wasp.

cant get the consistany with the ROC??? DX or KC??
I think KC is one of the most consistant and it breaks in so slow u can work an understable KC for years and it never breaks too far..
