I haven't been playing long but have put in the last year probably over 300 rounds.
I keep hearing this name pop up and keep hearing how he was a Legend etc. etc..

Where is he now ???
What did he do so remarkable in the past??

I did hear he carried only 3 Discs at World Championships and finished like 3rd. How is that possible ??

Why doesn't he play anymore, in Masters or something ??

Whats that Human Tunnel Shot he did ??
Was he a better freestyle player than DG player ??

And I heard overall he had better general control and knowledge of the frisbee than Climo . Is this true ??

Thanks !!!

I saw him last week @ OG. :)

He was one awesome disc golfer. He finished 2nd 3 years in a row I believe to Climo in the worlds. He Usually carried 3-4 disc when he played, never carried a bag. He new his plastic inside and out thats why he played so well. It doesn't matter how many or how few discs you carry, if you dont know exactly what they they do, why carry them ? I played with him a couple times and was very impressed with his style of play and his attitude on the course. I played a couple rounds with him in the Worlds back in like 92-93 he then carried a whippet, 2 rocs, and an aviar and kicked butt with them. I dont remember ever seeing him throw a roller on any hole, just accurate and long air shots. He was a great freestlyer also. I wish he still played because he could teach alot of people about the term "knowing your discs".

...he was on 'some' television show [perhaps Letterman] trying to shoot discs through a Basketball hoop.

Having grown up in Kansas City, Mo. I had the privilege of knowing Crazy John Brooks and playing many rounds of golf with him at Swope Park and Rosedale in the late 80's and early 90's. He was the 'Best' all-around disc thrower I have every seen, and one of the nicest and most helpful persons you could wish to meet. Back then, Craze was larger than life. He once should up to a tournament in a white stretch limo. They drove the thing right on to the course and out walks Craze to a thounderous cheer.

I last saw him at the 2003 K.C Wide Open, he was spectating. I think his bad knees have kept him from competing. Although I did see an article about him and someone else from the Bud Light Frisbee Team teaching young kids about Frisbee sports at schools and youth organizations.

If you do ever get to meet Crazy John Brooks, tell him I said hello, and condiser yourself lucky to have met the Legend. ;)

He stopped throwing because he got old? Victor stopped, he got too old. Scott Zimmerman stopped, got old. Eric Marx stopped, got too old. Stork almost stopped, too old. Houck stopped throwing.

People should not stop just because they get old. They should keep throwing and humiliating themselves like me.

I always heard the legend but the only time I saw him he was standing up at a players meeting to publicly disrespect the TD, and then at the same tournie he was crying and screaming like a baby to the TD and the other volunteers after he lost Masters by a couple strokes. Maybe everybody has a bad day? :(

I heard he owns the world record for throwing a disc into a regulation basketball goal, something ridiculous like twice the length of the court or something.

Mike Carter from Missouri know's him pretty well, I've heard some funny stories about him.

The only human being to hit metal(back of the rim) on the Dam Hole in the final 9 of the Columbus Open, (Now the BHMO). He did it with a roc! It is on the video, amazing! I wish it would have went in!

I got to play with him in my group in 98 at the KCWO at Water Works. He was in pain from his back and knees and I shot well and he still killed me by a bunch! Great Guy known for his funny antics, kind of like the Fuzzy Zoeller of Disc Golf.

I got to meet Crazy John Brooks when he used to come through Amarillo with the Bud Light Freestyle Team (Chip Bell and Joey Hudoklin). I think they were glad to see fellow Disc players in the crowd. They used to perform at our annual festival in the park (Funfest), and after their shows they would get into the crowd and jam with us. Man what fun that was. They were all an inspiration to me, and their love of the flying disc was impossible to hide.

I remember that....I also forget which show it was. Although I do remember him getting sued by the host. He shook the guys hand after making one, breaking a bone in the hosts hand in the process. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Why the "WHO WAS" when he's still alive?? He lives in Ventura county now and I saw him last at the Ventura tournament. I've also seen him at Eldo, still alive and as crazy as ever. He's also known as "Craze" and lives up to his name. We partied hard at a couple of Masters Cups back in the early 90's but I think I first met him in 1990 at Worlds in AZ. He invented the freestyle trick of spinning it on his teeth!!! OUCH! But yes, his knees have been a problem for a long time now but he still shows up every once in awhile.

I have him on video at the finals in Huntsville, Alabama in 1993 yelling out "Power to the People!" every time he hit a good shot.... truly a crazy, fun dude!! :D:D

I got to play with him at a few tournaments in the late 80's, Crazy talented. I got to watch him and the Bud Team at the '87 US Open. John was doing a delay, spin, on his teeth.

I think he invented the "tooth delay". He was also know for his lengthy speeches at the awards ceremonies. I sure do miss seeing/freestyling/golfing with him.

He used to hit the Friz regularly. The year I won pro women, he won open. It's one of my best memories, being the Friz pro champ with Crazy John. Ah, memories.... we will enjoy them...

There was an article about him in the last DGWN, if memory serve me.

Is that the same Friz where Sean Kelly played the whole round naked...I think Craze won that year.

Craze inspired me to throw a Roc, watching some of the shots he pulled off with a Roc over and over again is burned into my brain. To this day when I throw a Roc I wanna throw one as good as Craze does or used to. I heard he can be found occasionally at some of the KC leagues.

4 discs and a cooler/stool...what else you need. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

McCoy played one round at the Frizz completely naked (except shoes) I think he had a gorilla mask on while he played as well.

Yeah, that was the year! I think that a guy playing naked is the ultimate way to work the group you are with. I heard that the rest of his card were a bit.... disturbed...

McCoy didn't play the round naked, he just streaked the Power Circle ( I have photographic proof). He was also wearing a koala bear back pack along with the shoes. He played one of those rounds in a hot pink one-piece womans swim suit ala Jim Carry's Amazon woman on "In Living Color". McCoy won both the Most Fun and McClellan award.

Oh, and Crazy always had a towel, too.

. Eric Marx stopped, got too old. .

The "Legend" Eric Marx still plays. Mostly local tournaments here in NC and is still a force today competing with the younger open players.

Victoria, Texas late 80's, Freestyle Players Association World Championships, yes, Victoria! Player party was held at some disco dance club. Crazy John, the Valasquez Brothers and Chip Bell took the floor and tore it up for over an hour. Some of the most amazing freestyle I have ever seen other than Donny Rhodes tearing it up at a halftime of a Spurs game. (got that one on tape!)
