Discraft's new Z-Tracker is probably one of the easiest golf drivers to throw for players of all levels. Probably compares to a faster XL, or a faster longer 1st run Buzzz. Slight hyzer release yields an incredible straight, long drive. Could it be easier to throw than the new X-Avenger? Hard to believe, but i think so.

Limited edition Z-Trackers are available at http://www.sportdiscs.com/index.html

Aug 23 2005, 12:50 PM
Faster than a Z-XL? But is it slower than a talon, I have heard how straight it is, yet to try one, so curious as to the exact speed?

sandalman
Aug 23 2005, 01:04 PM
i wouldnt say slower than a talon. its pretty fast for its stability. not quite flick-like, but well nothing is. i found it a bit less stable than the talon, so for me it is a farther flieri also found it to be more forgiving when thrown a bit nose up. it still penetrated the wind and got down the fairway.

the other key characteristic i found is that it has very nice glide for a stable disc. while it is more stable, the glide pattern is much like the avenger, that is once it makes its turn it will still cover a good distance in the hyzer part of its flight. because of that, throwing into a headwind with a bit of an annie will maximize the flight into some very nice distance.

i really think discraft has unlocked some secrets to how to make discs glide far. with the Glide, Avenger and now the Tracker they are shortening fairways worldwide.

Aug 23 2005, 01:12 PM
When you guys are talking about it being more stable do you mean straighter, or more overstable?

I am trying to get a grasp on what this disc is. Maybe like a Teebird?

sandalman
Aug 23 2005, 01:16 PM
by stable i mean its gonna hyzer. depending on a lot of things (like wind) that could come sooner or later.. but its gonna hyzer. unfortunately i cannot compare it to the teebird cuz i have never thrown one.

cbdiscpimp
Aug 23 2005, 01:16 PM
I would say its like a Teebird. I throw it where I would throw my 1st Run Z BUZZZ but I need a little bit more distance :D

Aug 23 2005, 01:35 PM
Okay, I just got confused because some people say more stable when they mean not going to turn or fade, and some people say more stable when they mean it will fade hard. I am of the former line of thought. I would say a Firebird is more stable than a Monster for instance. Or a Crush is more stable than a Flick.

I have thrown a 1st Run Buzzz, so that is probably a pretty apt comparison for me.

This stable/ overstable thing is starting to sound like an abbott and costello routine. :D
Stable is straight and over stable means it cuts hard opposite the spin.
The more stable a disc is the STRAIGHTER it is.
REALLY Stable = Really straight
SUPER stable = Super straight
Man that things is stable = Man that things is straight.

I wonder why this is so hard to figure out.

One of the reason is, ALL discs used to be understable.
when discs finally evolved to handle speeds with out flippping over the term Stable was used, meaning they would turnover.
When discs starting falling hard left like the Whippet and Viper even with a lot of snap and speed we started using the term overstable ( well most peeople did).

How does the Tracker differ from the Wildcat? SunKing Discs lists the Tracker and the Wildcat with the exact same ratings for Speed, Glide, Turn, and Fade. Which would be more forgiving for a Rookie?

i've thrown mine three times. once to try it out and twice in rounds. it's got two birdies to its credit. one on a 360' or so, put me 30' to the right of the pin (and got me in a position to putt for the win on the last hole of the tourney!) and the other on a 240' that requires a hyzer drop to the pin.

Red's a nice color as long as it never lands into a green background .. . . .

Nevermind -- I figured it out, yest they're only availible in red.

Am I the only one that loves the old bright yellow Z plastic. You have to try to lose a disc that's made out of that color -- it's the reason they make tennis balls neon yellow. Raise your hand if you're old enough to remember when tennis balls were white . . .. .

I just got mine today in the mail. They feel very similar to my CFR TLs....I can't wait to throw it at the field!!!!

Sep 02 2005, 12:24 PM
For me, the Z-Tracker was slightly more overstable than my CFR TL, but only very slightly. It took me awhile to decide that. In fact, they may not have any stability differences, but it sure seemed more overstable than my CFR TL.

Profile-wise, I couldn't tell much difference between the Z Tracker and the CFR TL. The TL I have is slightly more domey, but it is not significant.

The Tracker held hyzer and annhyzer lines as equally well as the TL.

The Tracker was also longer than my CFR TL. The Tracker seemed to get to the glide part of the flight quicker and seemed to stay in it for longer. It wasn't much longer. For instance, it seemed to go about 20 feet further than the TL on annhyser S shots.

I am not sure the Z-Tracker will be in my bag right away. It is too similar to my CFR TL. I am used to the TL, but I think I will keep practicing with the Tracker to see how it goes. It may someday replace that TL. The fact that I am even thinking of replacing a TL means Discraft did a good job with this mold. I thought for sure I would die with a TL in my hand. They are just too similar and I see no advantage to switching over right now.

Now, when I see an Elite X Tracker....

Paying $13 instead of $25?

I can't wait to get a hold of one of these, Always wanted a TL but didn't want to pay 2x more for it.

To clarify: the Tracker is a great disc. I don't feel as comfortable with the Tracker as I do with my CFR TL. The CFR TL and Tracker are very similar in my opinion.

Besides, where are you seeing $13 Trackers? I would love to know. I paid $20 each on mine, plus shipping was actually kind of spendy. If I saw $13 Trackers I just might switch over. The TL I am using right now came in the players pack for the Disc Golf Marathon last year. I think the players pack was around $25 and I got a hat, a mini, some stickers, the TL...So, I would say unless the $13 Tracker is real, the CFR TL and Tracker are pretty comparable in price. Pick whichever one you can get your hands on and you will not be dissapointed.

This thread died. Is anyone using this disc or is it just overkill for other Discraft discs?

I have been trying to decide whether or not I need the new Z-Tracker in my bag. I currently throw Z-Wildcat (roller, anhyzer, and control drives), Z-Crushes (distance), and Z-Predators (hyzers, wind, and distance) for my drivers. I haven't had much practice with it yet but it seems to be a stable control driver. A little more overstable than my Z-Wildcat but I would could probably get away with using only the Wildcat for control drives.

Well, Clayton just told me that he rolled it. I didn't know there was a wind.

And I threw it about 60% uphill. Definetly not a throw that I could see how it really flew. Since then, I have got 1 and threw it in an open field and threw it a few times during my 36 hole round at Cedar Hill yesterday. I see it as a SLIGHTLY more overstable Wildcat or Teebird.

This is a great disc! Threw mine for the first time a couple days ago and I was very happy with it. It's easy to control, great for long straight shots and can go very far. I can't beleive how durable Z plastic is. I hit some serious [I'm a potty-mouth!] with mine, even planted it in hard gravel road (was used to throwing more stable discs and this thing did NOT turn, lol), and the disc doesn't have a single nick, cut and barely a scratch on it.

The only Innova disc that I ever liked was the Roc. Now I don't even like that disc anymore. I like the MRV better now.

You need to get 3 midrange discs to try. Z-Buzz, Z-Comet, Z-Glide. I throw all three and they do 90% of my midrange needs. I also throw a Z-Wasp but it may be more overstable than what you are looking for.

What is it that you didn't like about the Roc?

Oct 13 2005, 12:42 PM
i don't like it b/c the plastic isn't durable enough.......and i cant afford a champ. one.......but who really cares, the Buzz does what a Beat Roc, new Roc, and KC roc do all in the same disc.

dannyreeves
Oct 13 2005, 12:46 PM
I agree that the Buzz is a good disc but it does not do what a beat up DX Roc does. A Buzz is too straight and has more fade at low speeds.

That is why God let us have the COMET! :D

Luke Butch

True. There is no disc like the Comet. Comets do things that are impossible from any other disc.
And they go FAR!

I usually agree with Kid across the board, but i beg to differ about that statement. Get you a Pro-D, Holiday, or X-Buzzz, beat it up like you do your "beat DX rocs" then tell me it doesn't do the same thing. :)

Oct 13 2005, 04:01 PM
I have a Z-Glide, Z-Wasp, and a Z-MRV. I like all three of them better. I just don't like the way the Roc feels coming out of my hand. It feels like throwing a putter to me.

Get a Z-Buzz and either an Z or Z-Comet. That should complete your midrange needs.

i have a z buzz, a pro d mrx, and a demon. How am I doing Hero?

Been thinking of picking up a glide.

Oct 13 2005, 06:21 PM
Looks ALMOST perfect.

I'd have a Drone instead of the Demon, but i'm a little biased. :)

Back to the Tracker talk.......................

Not super fast, but super controllable. I used it on a few holes last night at the GV mini....birdied all of the holes i used it on. The Tracker in the PHOTON GLO plastic will feel awesome, i'm sure.

Oct 13 2005, 09:50 PM
Last I bought a photon Glo disc, the chains chewed it up really really fast.... one hit took a gouge about 1/4" by 2" out of the rim and it never flew right after that. I've seen more durable bubble gum.

Have they improved the durability in the last year or so? An expensive disc with bad durability does not sound like a winner to me.

But I have been tempted strongly by the Z Tracker, just the prospect of getting divorced for buying more discs right now keeps deterring me. :o

Oct 13 2005, 11:44 PM
I do have two SB Orcs but I'm not looking for a disc that could be worth $50. I want them to throw and beat up.

two SB Orcs would get you my Glow Z tracker :D

Just got 2 more 1st Runs in the mail. I think I am going to take one and beat the snot our of it (IE throw it into a wooden fence or brick wall and see if I get get it to where there is not fade at the end of its flight. Anybody else just loving this disc???

I love mine. I have a few, and the one I throw most is fading less-and-less every day I throw it. But a little fade is ok for me.

for the last two year's i've run a super bowl prognostication event for message board folks. basically, you pick the winner of the game, game score, halftime score, and total offense yards for both teams. closest prediction wins a really nice stack of plastic - usually stuff i've accumulated over the year in winnings.

thats the regular game. this year, in addition to paying out the winner like always, i've putting up the first run stack. to win it, you must:

1) contribute one disc to the regular stack
2) win the overall game
3) pick the super bowl winner before the playoffs start

we feature near-realtime online statistics updates throughout the game, and a modelling tool where you can input all kinds of possible game outcomes to see how good your chances are.

look for a thread in the MISC section in mid-november

The best part about the disc is the lack of effort required to get good distance.

I agree that the Z-plastic fades too hard at the end of the flight, but I can't see the X or D making much sense to me since the Tracker is perfect for wooded courses where you want the added distance with accuracy. Out in the open I just switch to a Predator for the same type of distance.

Oct 25 2005, 01:36 PM
X and D Would be great for the same reasons X and D are great in mids and putters. As they get beat up they require less and less effort to throw accurately and eventually become hyzer flip discs and rollers :D

Which may be why they are now making Photon Glow Trackers :D

yep, i am completely loving this Z-Tracker. i was lucky to pick up a good handful of the earliest first runs with the discraft swoosh only logo, plus a few more of the first run stamp. i lost one in a pond last weekend also :( someone will have a treasure when they swim in to get it!

Glow Trackers and Glow Buzzz, now available at sunkingdiscs.com (and others I'm sure).
I got mine today. It's nice, has a good feel. It's a little domier than the Z, and seems to have good glide. I only threw it on the short course today, so didn't get to full-power it, but I will tonight!

Speaking of throwing a great disc in the water ... I played Riverbend Park in Palisade CO yesterday. There is a short hole, #11 that goes straight at the Colorado river, with no backbrush. Threw my 1st run 178 Buzzz ... Like a complete [I'm a potty-mouth!]. It skipped next to the basket and over the bank!!! All the way to the river I cussed and shouted "[I'm a potty-mouth!] ... wtf were you thinking!" Got to the river bank, looked down about 10 feet into the river ... and there was my Buzzz, just covered with water, but outside the main current. To say the least I was amazed and can't beleive it didn't float down the river ... It would have been GONE to Utah. I'll take it as a good omen that I got it back.

How cold was that water? Cold enough to make 'em little, shriveled up raisins? LMAO! :D

There must have only been one set of footprints in the sand on that hole.....the disc gods were very nice to you. :D
