any one familiar with the course?

if so, What kinda scores do you get?

i always thought i did good on this course but today i was talking to some one else golfing and they said they their best score is a -21, par being 68. thats -7 with all counted as par 3 (which i dont think is fair since its in the woods and many holes just CANT be made in 3).

now i was amazed because i was going to enter the next tournament, and i was fairly confident that i would not embarass myself for being a newb, but my personal best is only a -14, and i average about a -9 to -12.

now im hoping the guy was lying, but i guess its not all that surprising. after all i am fairly new.

so i want to know what kind of scores people usually get, i need to see where i stand before i enter tournys.

thanks for the help

(and PS, the rochester disc golf club board has barely been touched. that dosent seem right considering rochester started the first ever 'frisbee club'...)

Basil Marinara has 27 holes. Score depends on which 18 you play.

oh yea, i forgot about the east 9. i never play the east 9. its not used in tournements and the fairways are not well kept.

Your best is 54? Are you a pro? 54 is a great score there.

And the casual course record is -5(all par 3's) by Doug Corea. Sorry, a 47 has never been shot there.

Try counting a little better, and maybe you'll come up with a more realistic score.

And not only is every hole 3- able, but I've birdied every hole but 3,8, and 11, and I've birdied 3 and 11 during doubles.

If you think that every hole is not 3-able then you can not shoot a 54.

every hole is 3 able, but in my definition, that dosent mean that should be par. i always saw par as something that you shold be able to meet, like the average score on a hole. when some one does amazing on hole 11 or 8, they get 3, and to me that sounds like that should not be the par. it should be possible to get birdie. ive never seen any one get 2 on either of these before. the closest was once i hit the basket on the second shot, but it was pure luck, and could never happen intentionally.

i have never gotten 3 on hole 8, but i regularly get 3 on holes 11 and 3.

now i am not making up numbers here. i have no idea what pro's shoot, my average is about 9-12 under, but i also play the course almost every day. i cant do nearly as well on any other course.

now the person i saw claimed to get -7 (par 3's), and i didnt believe him. Thats why i started this post.

and if you would like, we could play a round sometime. ill show you how i play rather than tell you. now if we were to play any where else, ill do horrible, ive just learned basil because im there so often.

oh and i know this post is already horribly long, but i usually dont get any better than a -4 on the front 9, but its the back 9 where i make up for it. my best game got me -10 on the back 9, although ive never done quite that good since. its holes like 14 and 15 that saved me. i got double eagle on both. (15 was mostly luck however, i sank a 25-30' putt for the first time in my life.)

and i also have my bad days, but in the past month ive never gotten any worse than -5

How can you "Double Eagle" a par 3?

Ace
Birdie
Par
Bogey

i dont play them as par 3, i just know they are played that way in tounys.

and now that i think about it, 14 is a par 4, not 5, so i only eagle that hole. either way, duceing those holes really lowers my score. thats all i was trying to say

Well that's what I thought you were probably doing.

I'd suggest starting to play them as 3's. Especially if you plan on playing in any tourneys. It does something subconsciously to not count them as 3's
little voice in my head I've got 5 shots to get there for a par

After I switched to the idea that all holes are 3's I started playing much better.
little voice in my head I've got 3 shots to get there for a par, better make them count Did anyone else hear that :(

My two cents

Plus its easier to do the math :D

yea, thats a good point. counting tourny style, ive shoot par once, and i usually am about 4 over. what messes me up is that there are some holes where i just cant get par (hole 8 is **** near impossible, and 5 and 13 i can only get half the time...) and then theres the first hole jitters.....

i see myself eventually getting into negatives, but its gonna take a much bigger arm to keep me from shooting 5 on #8

any way, i mess up in a whole bunch of different ways. im lucky that i can pull myself out of trouble in the back 9.

i really didnt mean to get all pissy before, but i dont want to be thought of as a newb exagerating his score. i really just wanna start this post over again.

im still looking for any one who has played basil before. what did you think? easy/hard? what did you score?

no one wants to post? i know there are plenty of people on here who have played it at least once. and i would post this in the rochester board, but i also want to hear from other people.

i want to know how it compares to other courses. ive played all of them in the rochester area except churchville and this is my fav.

luke, what do you normally throw, if you dont mind me asking? the best person ive played with there was Tony Inzana. it was a while back before i really knew how to throw, and it was basically him teaching me how to play. No one really kept score. ever since then ive bought all my discs from him, although ive never had a chance to play with him since.

Basil Marella Park's Course Scores Data Bank
From discgolf.com take a look (http://www.discgolf.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=4&Itemid=27&coreid=877)

Hope this helps even though its only two other peoples scores

well thanks, thats a start. that makes me feel good about even my worst days. haha. one person there got a couple 52s, thats amazing. didnt you say the record is 51? id love to be able to throw that low.

its odd to see someone elses strengths and weaknesses against your own. i regularly birdie hole 2, because i throw forhand and its a narrow right curve. but on holes like a left dogleg on hole 3 and the left turn on hole 9 scored a 2 on both, and i have never done that. mainly because i have no backhand drive at all.....

unfortunatly i dont have the oporotunity to see this in my every day round with my friends because we all kinda picked it up around the same time and share the same strengths and weakneses.
